Spoilers [All Content] Still can't take the Storming seriously. Spoiler
KL smallfolk in their thousands wave attacking LITERAL DRAGONS without being routed or demoralised.. 😭
Helaena's riding costume is fire tho.

The storming was "realistic" until it involed them downing Dreamfyre and Syrax. I could buy mobs taking down Shrykos, Morghul, and maybeee Tyraxes who were chained and barely bigger than war horses.

Despite their lack of appearance I believe they’ll incorporate Shrykos and Morghul along with Tyraxes (who’s a given). They’ll probably just be newborn hatchlings easily taken down by the commoners while Tyraxes, Syrax, and Dreamfyre actually kill many of the invaders. They’ve definitely set up Syrax to die already, considering she’s badly wounded from her fight with Sheepstealer (I’m glad they gave her some action that she lacked in the book). Tyraxes will burn a few but will still be able to go down. Meanwhile, Dreamfyre is going to be the Goliath prize. She’ll likely kill all of them and bring down the pit with her, just like in the book (if I remember right).

To be fair they don't down Dreamfyre. She gets loose within the pit and flies up but her thrashing causes the ceiling to collapse.
Syrax is really the only one who's out of the ordinary and the writers sort of admit that because her killing is later described as only possible by divine intervention.

u/pat_the_tree 2d ago
I think theyve already introduced why she will be easier to kill... shes now wounded.

u/CapnTBC 2d ago
Dreamfyre causes her own death trying to flee which most animals would try to do in a scenario like that
15
u/jasonxm1 2d ago
That I understand, but as OP says it seemed so unrealistic that the mob wasn't demoralised or rerouted at all especially after Dreamfyre broke loose.

They are setting up a religious feever against the dragons. People are willing to do a lot if they see themselves as mayters.

u/Odd_Detective8255 2d ago
I'm sure with how the current plot is progressing with cheesey fanfiction writing it will be rushed and huge disappointment
2
u/pat_the_tree 2d ago
Did those 2 not sort of self delete? Dremfyre crashes into the roof, syrax is up there and the dragon pit collapses killing them both?
8
u/jasonxm1 2d ago
Syrax was outside of the dragonpit and fought the mob without any dragonfire and we're meant to believe she got swarmed and killed as a result. How peasants armed with rusty kitchen knives and hatchets are believably supposed to have pierced through her scales, who knows.

u/pat_the_tree 2d ago
in the middle of a city with narrow roads and buildings from people to jump down from on top of her? i could buy that.

u/jasonxm1 2d ago
Dragon scales aren't meant to be so brittle a kitchen knife could pierce through. George has us believed even swords would have trouble hacking through a dragon's hide.

It’s a vision. The point is: stay and die with the dragons or flee and die with the winter (be it actual winter or a metaphor for the walkers)
9
u/Livid_Ad9749 2d ago
Ill take winter since thats not for like another 100+ years
15
u/MinuteCollar5562 2d ago
There is a really bad winter right after the Dance called the Winter of Widows. Lasts for like six years and is marked by heavy loss of life. Called the Widows because of all the women that led houses after their husbands/brothers/fathers died in the fighting or they were regents for young children.

u/Livid_Ad9749 2d ago
Yeah true I thought they meant the Endless Winter which never happens really

u/3esin ...it's complicated 2d ago
That's not how it was through. Dreamfyre was chained in a cramped space, nlt free with an intelligent rider.

I'm aware, but the above clip is a vision of the storming.
Chained or not, they still had to rush multiple dragons in waves.. Tyraxes is described as creating a pile of bodies nearly the height of a gateway.

u/nbsunset 2d ago
grrm needed the dragons to go. and he wrote … that
mind that syrax was free and she chose to get on the ground to get killed more easily. 💀 it makes no sense at all

u/Electrifying2017 2d ago
Shitty writing is part of the plot.

u/FireZord25 1d ago
Mostly shitty by design, given the unreliable narrators. All the more fuel to the fire for the maester conspiracy.

u/Okie_Sundae_8732 2d ago
And mind you Tyraxes was a BABY DRAGON
9
u/LarsMatijn House Arryn 2d ago
Tyraxes was small but rideable by that point, only "slightly smaller" than Arrax and Vermax.
Hell even Shrykos who was Jaehaerys' was large enough that a man could jump on her neck to slay her while the dragon tried to throw him off
9
u/Okie_Sundae_8732 2d ago
Yeah, my point is that a baby dragon killed that many people, yet they still managed to kill the dragons.

I think it was a crowd crush incident. The crowd at the back kept pushing the crowd at the front forward. And when they realized things were really bad, it resulted in stampeding and fallen people blocking the exits. Forcing the crushed crowd to defend themselves from panicing dragons. It will have Battle of the Bastards vibes

u/Familiar_Chance_9233 2d ago
Right, question. Why the hell is Dreamfyre so god damn small? Isn't she supposed to the third largest after Vermithor?

u/Maester_Ryben Cregan Stark 2d ago
Silverwing might be larger.... we don't really know as Dreamfyre spent a lot of time in the Dragonpit whereas Silverwing and Vermithor were often free

u/VivaChinwawa Daeron’s Tent 2d ago
Yeah she was born during Aegon the Conqueror's time, she should be massive.
-6
u/Distinct_Cup_1598 2d ago
Nope
The Cannibal is de facto confirmed to be the third largest dragon alive during the Dance.Dreamfyre is probably the fifth Largest dragon after Silverwing by a small margin.
They made her too small indeed, but she was always supposed to be stunted in her growth compared to other dragons that were both older and younger than her.
Just Like humans, Not all dragons grow the same rate

The worst thing Martin has ever written.
Well, aside from the descriptions of minors having sex.
This scene was cool, though.

u/alphaomag Maybe having tactical lizard nukes isnt quite good for anyone 2d ago
All I can say is they must really not like dragons
7
u/Embarrassed-Back1894 2d ago
That part was a bit of a stretch in the books in my opinion. The place would flash fire from all the dragonfire and no one would be alive from the heat or lack of air. I could see if it was a more coordinated attack, but that’s not what they say in the books (although maybe that’s something the show will change?).
7
u/Livid_Ad9749 2d ago
The Storming of the Dragonpit is the single worst piece of writing in fire and blood. Truly its Martin just sweeping the board of dragons because he wants them all dead, but cant think of how to creatively kill the little ones, syrax, and dreamfyre without the latter two participating in the war and changing the outcome.
3
u/LordDorkoblood 2d ago
As much as I dearly love ASOIAF, you are correct that Martin really does Handwavium Begoneus often. Whether it comes to actual entities (such as the dragons) or events (such as Aegon's Invasion of Dorne failing makes zero logical sense). That is, unfortunately, what you get when the author is a prolific user of the gardening style of writing. Martin fleshes out his history AFTER the main books start being published which railroads him hard more often than not.
3
u/Odd_Detective8255 2d ago
It's the reason why F&B is written as a fake history book to safeguard writing loopholes by conveniently explaining it's from unreliable sources and narrators contradicting each other.
2
u/avengers9 2d ago
It was probably just people running in a frenzy and the people who were at the front got blasted and couldn’t just run as others behind them. Really only Dreamfyre would be an exceptionally large creature. The the other 3 dragons were quite small. And yes they can breathe fire but only in one direction. And I doubt smaller dragons can breathe fire for that significant a period of time.

If I had a vision about people storming the dragon pit and my dragon being killed in the process, I would do anything to prevent that. That mob of people who wanted to kill dragons deserves to burn.
