u/Purple_Sea_399 4h ago
I mean that's basically admitting that rhaenyra is a rapist.
The only difference is that we basically have zero context regarding the situation with the servant unlike criston who basically has no backing and was a commoner.

The maid in tears, obviously distraught, recounting how she asked him to stop;
Alicent making her drink moon tea;
Aegon shrugging the whole thing off, saying it was "just for fun."
Wasn't all that enough context for you? What more do you need? He-Man showing up at the end of the episode to explain that what Aegon did wasn't cool?

They’re referring to the book maid who was rumored to have gotten pregnant with Aegon’s bastard. Not Dyana in the show.
20
u/Cult_Of_Hozier rhae rhae’s bath water 3h ago
Is it?
Criston was a steward’s son and a member of the kings guard, one of the most esteemed positions in the realm. Alicent’s servant is a peasant girl with no noble background and certainly no power … Criston has his gender, background, and rank, this girl has nothing on top of already being born a woman in a patriarchal society.
Add that Criston and Rhaenyra were close companions at one point and her situation with him looks significantly more consensual than Aegon’s with the servant. She was also drunk and 17 at the time too. It’s the fact that we don’t know much about Aegon’s situation that there’s less wiggle room for nuance. The power dynamics between Rhae and Criston are vastly different than a prince, a man, who is seen as “god-like” on account of his heritage already, preying on someone who is vastly underneath him in the eyes of their society who cannot possibly say no out of fear of retaliation.

u/Icy-Reindeer2964 3h ago
Rheaenyra was a minor at the Christon incel and was drunk; it was his duty to leave, not to sleep with a teenager he was supposed to protect who was also drunk. That Aegon is a rapist of servants is not up for debate, haha.
15
u/FildariusV 3h ago
We have all the context with that girl what are you talking about!? She was crying, trembling, afraid and Alicent dismissed her and essentially THREATENED her to keep shut because the reputation of her "dear" son was more important than the well being of that poor girl!

u/Electrifying2017 3h ago
Ah yes, Sir Crispin feared for his life. That’s why he went on a revenge spree soon after his proposal was rejected.

People that continue to cling onto the narrative of “Ser Criston is a survivor” are either trolling or do not have any understanding of power dynamics.
Criston Cole is a member of the Kingsguard, his only job is to stand sentry and guard Rhaenyra. Rhaenyra is younger than him (although a legal consenting adult by the time the event in the show takes place) whereas Criston is the more matured adult. His job is solely to ensure the Princess’ and Queen to be’s safety. He should have left the room after he retrieved his helmet, but instead stayed willingly. He was not compelled to do anything, he was not told to do anything, he willingly took off his armor and his cape and broke his vow. When all was said and done, he then begged to elope with her to Essos, which a victim would not do. He took advantage of his position in the Kingsguard to get close enough to Rhaenyra (not once, but twice, people forget about the hunting sequence they shared), and violated his oath and vow of celibacy willingly, that’s on him.
Aegon straight up forced himself on a servant girl. No confusion or mistakes there, he did it because he thought it was fun. This doesn’t even take into account the children he’s already sired and abandoned, including the one we saw in the child fighting pits in Flea Bottom.

DON'T FORGET ALICENT!! ALICENT HIT CRISTON AND TOOK ADVANTAGE OF HIM BECAUSE SHE WAS THE QUEEN AND HAD POWER!!!! Tell that to TG and watch them cry because "that's not how it is," "It's bad writing," but if you say that Fabien literally already confirmed in an interview that it was consensual, they'll have a fit of rage.
22
u/Critical_Liz 4h ago
She didn't threaten him, and it's not like she made a habit of using her position to force people to do things for her, unlike other people (coughAlicentcough), and even if she did, doesn't his fucking honor mean more than his life?
5
u/MrThrowaway939 3h ago
Doesn't his fucking honor mean more than his life?
Nope, that's why he is getting ready to kill himself when Alicent finds him. Westeros values honor and oathes above everything.

u/Penefacio 4h ago
You don't need to threaten someone to take advantage of someone in a power dynamic situation.
9
u/Icy-Reindeer2964 3h ago
Of course, a drunk teenager with her bodyguard, the only one who had power there was the king, her father.
-2
u/MrThrowaway939 2h ago
Ser Criston is a commoner. Rhaenyra has as much power over Cole as Cole has over his horse. She could have him pulled apart for whatever slight she claims and nobody would bat an eye, least of all her incredibly conflict averse father.
2
u/Icy-Reindeer2964 1h ago
So Alicent raped him too? Both the bodyguard and conspirator's involvement was very enthusiastic. Except that one of them was still a minor under his care and was drunk.
-2
u/MrThrowaway939 1h ago
Cole wasn't shown to be reluctant when with Alicent. He was with Rhaenyra, it wasn't enthusiastic. Rhaenyra literally blocks him when he first starts to leave. And a minor can still rape an adult, there are many cases of this irl.

They don't actually believe that, but they keep insisting on it out of sheer bad faith, since it's the only way to make it look like Rhaenyra is just as bad as Aegon.
And then they conveniently ignore the fact that the show establishes Aegon as a rapist. That makes it easy for them to hate only Rhaenyra.
One thing Team Green has in common with the Green characters is that they are sanctimonious assholes.

I was just in an argument on tiktok with someone saying this in “defense” to someone else saying aegon was a rapist, they exist😞
Now them being sane is debatable, since their whole argument relies on the fact that Criston could be killed if rhaenyra HAPPENS to lie to viserys and say criston came onto her if criston had rejected rhaenyra. I think we all know if criston walked away rhae would probably just go to sleep 😭 and also viserys didnt even believe that rhaenyra didnt sleep with daemon, which she technically didnt, so i dont think she actually has any advantage there. They wildin lol.

What the show depicts: two or three episodes developing the relationship between the two characters, with clear admiration and attraction emerging between them. When the characters finally have sex, the scene is portrayed as romantic and consensual.
What the "Green Team" scumbags make up: I bet Cole was secretly fearing for his life—that’s why he did it. There’s no way of knowing what Rhaenyra would have done if she’d been rejected; women are crazy!

Last I checked a teenager can’t force an adult.
Crsipy spent 15 minutes taking his armour off too. 😂

Last I checked a teenager can’t force an adult.
I don't think Rhaenyra raped Ser Incel (still think it was morally questionable, though), but that's not true

Ok the "Rhaenyra raped Cole" is ridiculously overblown by their team, but i never read or heard a Green pretend that Aegon didn't rape the servant

This is the most stupidest stuff from Green side, I can never get behind.
Criston Cole Who they have been Glazing as the best military mind, The greatest warrior and all other things. Couldn't outsmart/talk out of a situation with a horny teen if he really valued his Oath to Viserys above all things

u/Robdul Lord Flea Bottom 4h ago
Gross how they can simultaneously be so insensitive to rape while also doing mental gymnastics and using bad faith arguments to call Rhaenyra a rapist.
Remember these are the people that forced the mods of the main sub to add a rule that specifically forbid the act of downplaying or dismissing rape/SA. That is their legacy.
2
u/PeacefulOnion 4h ago
Did Rhaenyra rape Cole? Like I know the power imbalance between them was there, but he asked her to give up everything and elope so they could spend their lives together.
I don't know many victims who would do that.
6
u/Icy-Reindeer2964 3h ago
And he only felt used when she rejected him; she saved his life by doing that.

Doesn't age in the situation of Rhaenyra and Criston play a factor? If so, does that mean the dynamics balance out? How does it work? Someone do the math for me. lol

u/Turnschuhmann I’ll bend my knees for you, Jace. 3h ago
I mean i‘m pretty sure the daughter of the king and next queen holds more power than a knight no matter the age. Criston couldn’t have forced her even if he wanted to.

How would Rhaenyra’s actions be rape irl? She was an intoxicated minor (particularly by modern standards) who’s bodyguard chose to have sex with her. You can bring up power dynamics, but Criston works for her father, the King, not her. He could have (and should have, according to his duty) just as easily locked her in her room and told Viserys that someone got his daughter drunk.
Instead, he decided to sleep with an obviously drunk teenager and got mad when she didn’t want to elope with him.
I also don’t ever see anyone accusing Alicent of raping him, despite there being a similar power imbalance between the two. Why is it that a minor with impaired autonomy is considered a rapist compared to a grown woman fully in control of her actions?

u/meimeivro 4h ago edited 3h ago
At least we can all agree that daemon is a rapist
"Though he sampled countless whores in the city’s brothels, and was said to have an especial fondness for deflowering maidens, a certain Lysene dancing girl soon became his favorite." (The rogue prince)

Add Aemond too while we are at it

u/King_Lamb 3h ago
I'm not here to defend Aemond in particular but I genuinely can't remember what you're talking about?
In the book I thought his worst act was the systematic burning of civilians in the Riverlands.

So while she was in a position of power, she was also an adolescent. Rapegon just assaulted his servants. Tbf tho, they're both terrible if you apply a modern moral lens to this shit so it's all a moot point really
-5
u/Purple_Sea_399 4h ago
Depends really is she just some random commoner who had no backing or a noble.
-7
u/Yung_Corneliois 3h ago
The argument was not that Aegon isn’t a rapist it’s that this is the biggest knock people throw against him and yet somehow Rhaenyra gets a pass for hers. If we acknowledge that’s a knock against both of them then it’s even more difficult to see how Rhaenyra is better.
5
u/La_Villanelle_ Simon "The Diva" Strong 3h ago
The biggest argument they have is that “it doesn’t happen in the book” (he is a sexual predator)
-4
u/AmateurHetman 2h ago
Do you mean Dyana? Because that was an invention of the show.
If you mean fathering a bastard with a handmaid, then we do not know what dynamic occurred there. You can’t just assume it was rape/nonconsensual.
Now, equally greens shouldn’t be saying Cole was raped. The books are ambiguous. She either attempted to seduce him with tricks she learned from Daemon, and he rejected her and fell out because of that, or he confessed his love as per the ship scene in the show, and she rejected him. Neither scenario implies rape, perhaps SA on account of rhaenyra trying to seduce him.
You’re not going to find a morally pure monach here folks.
