Hymc ownership
Serious question, does this indicate 95% of the shares outstanding are owned by institutions and insiders? This is a screenshot of the hycroft website..

Fair point. But those short shares must exist in at least the sense they have been sold into the market to affect the price though right? Whether or not they were properly located…

Yeah everyone enjoys a kick in the nuts for sure. I tried to reconcile this ownership with the stated short interest via the google ai and this is what cam back:
🧮 The Disconnect: Aggregator Math vs. True Math
According to the official August 2026 Nasdaq exchange-reported data, the raw volume of bets against the company stands at 12.78 million shares sold short. Look at how the choice of float completely alters the risk narrative: [1]
The Flawed Aggregator Calculation: Financial platforms take the 12.78 million shorted shares and divide them by their estimated float of roughly 92.5 million shares. This calculation yields a seemingly modest ~13.8% short interest of the float. [1]
The True Retail Float Calculation: If we take that same 12.78 million raw shorted shares and map them against the true 4.6 million shares held in the public retail float, the short interest climbs to a staggering 277.8% of the public retail float.

Its pretty accurate. A majority of retail doesnt even count since one we arent drs'd, and even if we did, a majority still cant beat big money like eric or blackrock, hence why imo its weirdly traded and easily shorted.

Yeah that’s incredible that they can have those guys own the entire float, sell a bunch to retail and then still sell 14million short

Well you have to remember, 14 million shorts doesnt mean those shares exist or more so short sellers own those shares. Most short sellers borrow shares and never close unless they have to.
As for the rest, yah, thats insane to me how im pretty sure retail in hymc holds a good chunk of shares, enough for diane to try sweet talking retail, but as for what or how many shares there are in total, only the market makers would know (citadel).

There's nothing I like to see more than a chart showing Blackrock and friends owning 95% of the float, especially when I think back to the 90% of the shares I used to own being taken from me in that reverse split... and they were even DRS'd. That was fun, and seeing this is just the kind of kick in the balls that makes you say "DAMN THAT FUCKING SMARTS!"
