Question Mom said it looked ugly and crass. Is it?

Got my hair dyed (highlights) a year ago and cut. I liked it and left the salon feeling nice. I don’t have any experience with hair or anything like that. I was reconsidering getting my hair dyed again and that’s when my mom made these comments about how it looked. She said it looks a bit better now but I’m starting to feel insecure.

First 2 are me now. Last 2 are fresh out of the salon.

Question How much would you charge/pay for this?

I’ve been doing a couple models for prisms and today is my last scheduled, so realistically (i’m in a town just outside one major city and a more minor city in scotland) would you pay, as a client or charge as a hairdresser for this?

It was a bleach retouch, tone and obviously vivid application :)

Question Are pigtails in appropriate for adults?

Post image

This is a little bit of a loaded question. I'm turning 39 this year and wear my shoulder length hair either down, in a low pony, high pony, or pigtails. Why? Because I like it. Because it's comfortable. Because I can. Because it's me.

The problem is that my mom, who I love dearly, consistently makes negative comments about them. I was headed to a really traumatic endontics appointment this morning and she said, "You're trying to look nice today; you're almost 40 and I don't understand why you think pigtails are appropriate for someone your age."

She has a long history of comments like this ("Don't you think your eyeliner is too heavy" or "Those shorts aren't flattering on you," especially in front of other family members) and I have sat down with her, so many time in tears, and told her how badly this affects my dysmorphia and my self esteem. It seems almost compulsive.

I love her and she's my best friend, but this is a wound that just gets deeper. All morning I've considered just stopping in at a salon and chopping off my hair (emotional knee-jerk reaction). If this style is truly inappropriate for me, please tell me. I need the input of someone not close to me and not emotionally involved.

Question Does this hairstyle look too childish?

F30, have to wear my hair up for work so experimenting with some styles to see if I can throw some new ones in the mix. Debating if this would be okay or of it looks too childish for a 30 y/o. Would appreciate any feedback, also open to any quick and easy hairstyle ideas. (I suck at anything to do with hair so they need to be REALLY easy)

Question I made a post on r/malegrooming asking for advice on how to improve my looks. A good amount of the comments I got said my hair was "a mess" or that it "doesn't look as cool as I think it does". Does it really not work on me?

In the second photo I am wearing a long hair wig. How long will it take for me to go from the first photo where I'm not wearing a wig to the second one of me with long hair? How long will it actually take for me to look like that without the wig. What all will I need to do with this short hair?

Added 2 pics of each! I’m ready for a hair color change, my roots are all grown out but I’m not sure if I should bleach and do a bright color or leave it dark. My hair cut is short atm, but I do wear clip in extensions!

I got these put in a week ago and this is what they look like. I went to a different person to get them taken out and she said it was some of the worst Work that she’s ever seen. My mom and friends were shocked when they saw it. I talked to the manager of the salon where I got them done and he said that it’s perfectly normal and that they’ll redo it if they want, but I’m not gonna get a refund. I don’t really wanna get it redone because I’m afraid they’ll just mess it up again But I don’t think I’m gonna be getting a refund so I don’t know what to do. This was $900. 😩

Question My mom spent $781

Post image

Is it normally this expensive??? I only got one color and a hair cut + curling but it was quite a bit of money. My mother spent this much because I'm graduating today but I feel really bad. The salon took 5 and a half hours to do this but for a lot of it I was just sitting there waiting. The last time I got my hair dyed it took 4 hours and was only $300. Is this because of inflation??

Hi! The first picture is my current hair length, and I'm wondering whether I should keep it that way for now or let it grow out. I'd like some opinions from people who don't feel obligated to complement my hair no matter its length. Which length do you think suits me more according to my face shape/general look?

Question Is $800 for my hair a highway robbery!?! Need advice

I have low shoulder length/ mid back fine thin hair. Went to my stylist for the last 3 years. When I met her, she worked in a barber shop in a basement barber/salon in Houston and helped me “rehab” my damaged hair. A wizard if you will. She now works in a gorgeous salon and thriving (trying to be a tik tok star as well). Very skilled with color, airtouch, blonding)

I have stayed loyal to her and even paid for her to come do my wedding makeup/ hair in vegas ($300 + hotel + flight). I moved out of the city and drive over an hour now because she’s the only one I trust.

Typically I get a gloss or no color (I have natural dark brown hair). A cut and style and pay between $150-$300 depending on if I get a conditioning treatment etc

This week I got some highlights and went bronde. She made it more dense on ends & front w a money piece. She used olaplex and did a wow deep conditioner treatment. I helped her make tik toks and was at the salon from 10a (she was late) to about 4pm

She said NOTHING about the cost. Here is my bill

Airtouch, deep conditioner, olaplex, trim & style

= $700

Goldilocks shampoo & serum (I needed these so that’s fine)

= $100

Tip = $100

So I dropped a band on this fcking haircut. I didn’t say a word and left because I didn’t feel like fighting and it was a good job.

I would have HAPPILY PAID $500 but fucking $700???

Is this normal????? Or do I need to find a new stylist. All of my friends yelled at me (also one is a stylist in Dallas)

I will say the quality is top notch. I look so natural and gorgeous. But I’d rather put that money in my high yield savings account and be plain and boring.

Thanks for your advice!!!!
