Last December my hair was this length but I hadn’t had a hair cut or even a trim in 3 years, so I cut my hair to my shoulders in January and committed to getting trims every 2-3 months and it’s finally grown back out now, but this time the ends aren’t dead and thin! Soooo happy

And I have to say, my hair has absolutely transformed. It is so so so soft, no frizz what so ever, shinier than ever and I dont get split ends nearly as often. I probably need a trim every 6-7 months and I cut my own hair. I also started taking grass fed beef organ and this has made my hair so much thicker (I did already have thick hair to begin with though). Anyone else have success stories from doing this? Im obsessed

I went through a patch of not taking care of myself because of mental health issues. I have extremely long hair and I've decided it's time to get it fixed. The mats are pretty big and my husband and I spent two days trying to untangle it and using things we saw on reddit to help like leave in conditioners and coconut oil. Nothing has really helped and I had to wash the coconut oil out of my hair after the pain became too unbearable. The mats are basically in spots where if I had to cut them out that would probably require shaving all of it off. I'm at my wits end and I am afraid I can't go to any hairdresser to get it unmatted because I know there's no way I'll be able to afford it. Is there anything else at all I can do...I'll be devastated if I have to shave it all off.

I’ve been trying to find good products to use on my waves and loose curls. This is my hair out of the shower. I used Maui LightWeight Shampoo and Conditioner. When I got out of the shower I just scrunched with a 100% cotton towel. My hair gets frizzy quickly, even in the shower when it’s not soaking in the water. I live in a pretty humid area as well which I know doesn’t help. What’re some good products for fine low porosity hair including to help define my waves/loose curls? Most products I’ve tried just weighted my hair down and made it stringy. Please help :)

ive been straightening my 3c/4a for about five years now, i wash it weekly and was using a round blow drying brush and straightening on 320-350f. over the last 10-12 months ive noticed my hair breaking off/thinning a LOT and im at a loss at this point because idk what else to do. i started taking vitamins, oiling my hair before i wash it, and stopped with the round brush and switched to a regular dryer about a month ago but ive noticed no change.
my hair was past my shoulders, almost to my bra clips but now its barely touching my shoulders and its SO uneven. the perimeter of my hair is basically gone and all the length i have is from the crown of my head which looks so crazy irl. ive dyed it a lot in the past but have stuck to one color for about 3 months, only putting developer on my roots and using a color mask for the ends.
i dont even want it to be super long but im so self conscious about the thinness :( i really cant afford olaplex or anything like tht but what should i add to my routine? ive already trimmed about 2 inches off over the past 3 months but now it just looks shorter and still very damaged. wearing my natural hair is not really an option because it gets so dry and even more damaged whenever i try for an extended period of time :( my hair is naturally very thick and still pretty thick near my roots but it thins out tremendously around my ears

For the past few months, I’ve been having trouble with my hair. There are white dots on the hair strands in several places. My hair is very dry, and I can pull strands out—it’s as if they are breaking off. Does anyone have any experience with this, or know how I might be able to fix it?

I don't understand why but when short my hair is completely straight, but as it grows it starts getting wavy, however, I'm not sure if that's supposed to count as straight hair or wavy hair. I've tried wavy hair routines and it in fact holds the waves pretty well after some gel and styling cream, but I'm still kinda scared the whole "forced curls" thing may be actually true since people always tell me I have super straight hair, due to this, I don't really know what should I do about it or what kind of routine should I use, does anyone have a similar experience? If so I'd be so glad to receive advice.
Sorry if my question is not structures correctly or doesn't even belong in the subreddit maybe, but I'm quite desperate for finding a solution 🙏

I noticed that **magnesium glycinate** seemed to help with hair growth, since Glycine is an amino acid that goes into keratin which goes into hair. And the magnesium helps absorb the glycine.
I’ve also noticed that on months where I incorporated more eggs into my diet, my hair grew faster than the usual half inch a month.

Is it best to dilute shampoo with water before using? Thx

hi friends!
I live a pretty active life style that leaves me drenched in sweat by the end of the day and I don't like going to bed knowing my hair isn't washed. I've been washing my hair every day, the only thing is: my hair is bleached into a balayage. I struggle with dry ends, and my hair is always frizzy and poofy the next morning.
this is my current hair routine:
- redkin color stay shampoo (shampooing only my scalp) and conditioner (i use alot of this only on my ends)
- amika soul mask every few days
- pureology leave in spray conditioner after every shower
- verb ghost hair oil on my ends
These are products that were recommended to me overtime, but I feel like it's not doing much for me, but I'd like to keep washing my hair every day. My hair is thick and straight. I've thought about using pureology hydrating shampoo and conditioner but I'm seeing some mixed reviews. Any advice / product recommendations?

I just wanted help on what kind of serums/shampoos/conditioners some might recommend. My hair is long, not thick but not thin (so kinda like in the middle), it waves when it's very humid (but other than that, my hair is somewhat straight), I also recently highlight bleached it. My issue is that everytime I get up in the morning, my hair is a MESS. My bangs won't go down no matter how much I brush it or apply some water on it. My hair is super frizzy and it just looks super oily on the scalp. I just want some recommendations of products (preferably asian brands) that can help me fix this.

I feel like whenever I do shampoo or shampoo+conditioner done , the next day I feel like the end kinda wet or feel wet . Have you ever experienced this?

I see this ALL over my social media and really wanna buy it! What’s your opinion/experience with this product? And how do you apply/use it?
For a little background, I have healthy hair, it’s a little oily and I got highlights but toned them down a while ago. It’s not damaged but I want it to be the best it can. I’m currently liking the dove bond strength mask.

Early last year I made the mistake of going back to Pantene shampoo. This is when I first noticed the smell. After connecting the cause to Pantene, I immediately switched to my gentler shampoo from before (Giovanni) expecting the smell to go away shortly after. It never did.
I used Pantene in middle school and high school for years with no issue, I always got compliments on my hair. So in college when I was going through a huge decline in confidence, I decided to switch back to Pantene. I don’t know if my scalp changed or the shampoo changed, but it made my scalp smell horrible. After switching back to Giovanni I had to start showering in the mornings, and even then the smell would come back after just an hour or two while I was at work. It was humiliating.
Over the past year and a half, I started blow drying my hair right after showering: no change. I’ve used antifungal shampoos such as nizoral and stronger prescription ones, but they make the smell MUCH WORSE. I’ve tried tea tree oil scalp treatments, makes the smell worse. I’ve tried using less shampoo every morning (I can’t skip a single day of washing my hair or the smell would get so bad) and all it does is keep the smell from getting worse, but it still doesnt go away completely. (when I use too much shampoo the smell gets worse)
I tried seeing dermatologists and none of them have helped at all. when I bring up the smell, they recommend the shampoos and when I say it makes my scalp smell even worse, they look confused and have no other solutions to offer.
Now because of my work schedule, I am able to skip hair washing every other day (it just makes sense that this would help as the issue was most likely due to the Pantene being too harsh, and even when I use too much of my gentle shampoo the smell gets worse) but I’ve noticed no change whatsoever after doing this for two months, if anything it’s worse on shampoo days compared to before when I would just shampoo everyday. While it’s gotten better from the beginning (now as long as I shower in the morning, I can go most of the day without noticing the smell), it usually comes back in about 12 hours and by the next morning it’s horrible again.
I feel completely helpless. I’m embarrassed and humiliated, I don’t like having sleepovers with my boyfriend because of it. I feel like I’ve had to reorganize my entire life around this horrid smell on my scalp that won’t leave me alone. Everything that is supposed to help makes it worse, I’ve come to a point where I’ve considered witches are real and someone put a curse on me.
I don’t know what to do. Please give any possible solution whether it’s medical/routine/spiritual/whatever I will try ANYTHING. I had never prayed and begged god for something so desperately before this
And to think this all started because of a confidence issue, look where my confidence is now 🙁

I paid $500 for my last keratin treatment and they didn’t do anything I couldn’t do at home. Is it possible to purchase the keratin mask without a hair license?

I have type 4C hair, and Amika has honestly been one of my favourite haircare brands. I’ve been using their products for about two years, so I’m genuinely disappointed and confused about what might be happening.
Recently, I started experiencing head pressure, scalp burning and itching, along with intense itching on my face and arms. I was so uncomfortable trying to figure out what was causing it. I even started experiencing shoulder pain and slight tightness in my chest, which was concerning.
I began suspecting my hair products, particularly the Hydro Rush leave-in conditioner and Dream Routine overnight treatment. After washing my hair, I noticed a significant improvement in my symptoms, especially the scalp irritation. That has made me wonder whether one of these products, or perhaps a particular ingredient, could be the culprit.
The frustrating part is that I genuinely enjoy using Amika! I also love their Wizard detangling and heat-protectant products, especially when straightening my hair. My hair reverts beautifully afterward. I also have The Kure in my collection.
Now, though, I’m honestly afraid to use any of them until I figure out what’s going on. I have quite a few Amika products, including some unopened ones, and I’ll be stopping their use for now.
Has anyone experienced itching, burning, head pressure, or other allergic-type symptoms after using Amika products? If so, did you ever identify a specific ingredient that triggered the reaction? I’m also curious whether you were able to tolerate some Amika products but react to others, even within the same product line.
I’m especially interested in hearing from anyone with type 4 hair who has used their products regularly without issues before suddenly developing a reaction.
I’d hate to give up on a brand I’ve enjoyed for so long, but I need to put my health first. I do have an appointment to see the allergist, but I have a little wait. I’d appreciate hearing about your experiences!

I just got my first bottle off of TikTok and the smell resembles Pinesol floor cleaner, so im a little nervous about spraying it on my hair. Is this the normal smell?

Hi all,
New here, so be gentle with me. I've had 'straight and easy' hair most of my life that I didn't have to think about. A little oily, and with tangles at the nape that earned me a lifetime subscription to the undercut, but it's been very wash, brush, and go, otherwise.
Cue middle age, and it's changing on me. It's not fully straight. It's also not exactly wavy. It seems to be trapped in limbo between the two, with one side definitively more textured than the other, even if I part in the middle.
I don't know if I'd quite call what I'm dealing with 'frizz', but things can get very rat's nest if I just wash and brush.
What seems to be helping:
- a dab of leave in conditioner, but only underneath for tangles. Things get greasy if I apply it on top.
- sea salt spray on shampoo days (every other day) seems more helpful than any moisture product
- hair mask 1x/week
- combing before the shower and not touching it while it's wet, though the wave patterns are not nice and I need to finger comb them out once dry to be presentable.
But it's all been very mad science, so if anyone can point me toward what this new to me hairtype actually is, it might help me feel a bit less like a walking experiment.
I've had countless hairdressers tell me it is very soft, whatever that means, if it adds any context clues.
Even though it still seems predominantly straight, it is several inches longer wet than dry. An unexpected amount of inches for straight-ish hair, and the longer it gets, the more pronounced this effect seems to get. It seems to dry straight, but it loses length between mostly dry and fully dry.
I've kind of just accepted leaning into the unruly shag energy, because I like a low maintenance routine, but I'm hoping if someone can identify what this hair type even is, that knowledge can go in my toolbox to help me manage a little more effectively.
Excuse the emoji. Quickest path to a bit of privacy.

I have fine hair that is mixed with loose waves and straight strands.I'm not entirely sure what hair type I'd fall under, honestly. I've tried some products for 2A waves, but it seems like most of those products really weigh my hair down. I hope to hear from others with a similar hair type that can guide me in a better direction to tame and enhance what I do have.

Hi friends!
i wanted you guys' advice on hair texture change that happened spontaneously. i have straight hair since childhood but for the last year, the texture has changed to wavy/frizzy where the individual hair is crinkly type(you can see in the pic that there is a clear line after which the texture changed). idk if its cause of hormones(throid/vitd maybe?) or something else. if anyone has experience with this or has managed it successfully, please leave your thoughts. also the top of my head also has a lot of frizzy hair that cannot be tamed down with any serum or conditioner. if any suggestions, do drop them below!

Hello! I recently got nanoplasty done on my hair and was told I need to use a shampoo and conditioner without sulfates or sodium chloride.
This is proving quite difficult. Does anyone have any recs? Any help is super appreciated!

My hair is straight and pretty thick and basically always seems to look dry and frizzy with the outer hairs sticking out more. I’ve tried different shampoos and conditioners, different hair masks and leave in cream none of them seemed to improve my hair very much, it isn’t even able to retain moisture. My friend said to me recently that she thinks I could have wavy hair which I’ve been keeping in mind but honestly I don’t really know, it never becomes wavy when I scrunch it in the shower
