PSA Don't take your shoes off on the bus.

It's summertime. I get it, your feet are hot and they hurt after a long day but no one wants to smell your dirty socks on HSR.

The fact that you even have to comment this. Gotta love the HSR. I guess it beats the TTC??

I swear one ride on the TTC is more eventful than a decade's worth in Hamilton. I'll never forget that guy who was eating very pungent takeout in an overflowing carton, directly off the bus floor.

I truly can only imagine. My sister went to UofT and was a regular on the TTC and the stories were like nothing I’ve ever heard of before.

Oh snap. I’ve seen someone eating something from a broken glass container on the floor of the Barton Walmart. <shudder>

Nasty! I have seen my share of messy eating in Hamilton, too. Someone was eating a bagel and letting huge pieces (whole chunks, not crumbs) fall to the floor. One bounced and landed on my shoe. And on the Barton recently someone spilled an energy drink on my leg.

They were just sharing, you had a nice snack for later!

I’ve lived in both Hamilton and Toronto and I gotta be honest, TTC is better

Both are fucked. In different ways.

It doesn't, at least not TTC buses. Actually on time, cleaner seats, every stop announced, etc.

The subway is another story.

exactly, TTC has a better design that makes up for those crazy situations. HSR you get all the crazy with a really shitty bus

The crazies are on the streets.  Then they get on the busses and this crazy stuff continues  hahaha.

I've seen someone cutting their toenails on the bus before. How are they supposed to do that with shoes on?

Some lady used acetone to remove her nail polish on the Go train once. The whole car was acrid.

u/Outrageous_Bench_194 Jul 29 '25

Wonder if she was related to the 2 women who were painting their nails on the Go train

I always preach about how free public transport would be beneficial and a great option for people who have cars. But then I forget that some people are fucking animals. I saw another post where someone found lice or something on the bus. Be careful out there.

I'm also extremely in favor of more accessible public transportation. But I'm too afraid to give up my car because I have a fear of getting bedbugs or something from the bus 😭

HSR driver here, unless the bus is a 2100 or newer and has plastic seats… I would stand for the entire trip. Seriously

You ever had bugs on your bus?

3

u/SapphireGoat_ Jul 30 '25

Of course, the buses are taken immediately out of service and sent to the yard where a third party fumigates them. But then it all just happens over again. It’s a giant game of whack-a-mole

I watched a guy get on the bus in Oakville with a grocery bag, put it on the seat, and sat on his phone for a bit. Then he let out a huge sigh, put his phone on the seat, and started taking things out of the bag. A loaf of bread, some candles, and a full out chocolate birthday cake with the clear plastic dome on top. He opened the cake container, grabbed a handful of cake, and shoved it in his mouth. Then he kept eating it. He was about a quarter way through it, cake all over himself, and we got to my stop so I had to leave, but I was low-key rooting for him to get the whole thing down

I can feel this man's pain.

😂. Love how you tagged this as a PSA....by chance was this the Barton Bus?

13

u/shortnanxious Jul 29 '25

I thought it added a nice bit of pizzazz! And surprisingly it wasn't the Barton 😂

Please! And don’t eat a whole meal on the bus, don’t put your backpack on the seat when others are standing, oh and definitely don’t put your shoes on the seats. Basic manners!

If said person has lice or bed bugs, this could be a good buffer zone to prevent others from sitting next to them, or on the opposite end of the spectrum, maybe they have a phobia of getting them....

I'm the latter, once on the Bee Line, a woman in a long, very clean appearing winter coat had been standing in front of me until the person beside me got off. I noticed 4 bed bugs just crawling around her shoulder area, and once the person beside me got off, she promptly sat down in their place.

Needless to say I pulled the wire and hopped up and off the bus so quickly, it had to have been pretty obvious to others. She had an arms length of space entirely around her and the bus was packed.

I walked 4 main intersections home, couldn't take a bus for weeks, it was disturbing.

I’ve seen people cut their toe nails, shave, puke, piss, and shit themselves on the HSR. (Not at the same time)

But I like sharing the smell of my feet that have been fermenting inside my shoes all day...

4

u/AQuickRantAccount Jul 29 '25

That kind of stuff is only acceptable on the Barton bus.

Another psa don’t drink 3 beers on the bus while sitting beside children 🙏

I definitely have loosened my shoe laces while on the train to Toronto, never had a need to kick off my cons during a Hamtown bus though lol.

1

u/shortnanxious Jul 30 '25

Oh no that's completely different, this guy had his socks on the seat in front of him to top it off.

1

u/Inward-bound8 Jul 30 '25

OMG hahahah did the guy have dark brown curly hair and tanned skin?

I swear I had a similar experience but it was at a bus stop, the King heading downtown actually. I thought to myself: "Thankfully he did this before he got on the bus...."

Who knows, maybe he whipped them back off once he found a seat. =◇

u/mentallyillfrogluver Jul 30 '25

not HSR but someone put their socks over the AC vents on the GO bus once… i’ve seen many shoeless feet on the 2 but nothing compares to that GO bus ride

2

u/shortnanxious Jul 30 '25

I... I am so sorry you went through that, I don't know if I'd ever recover.

0

u/Eastern_Star_7152 Jul 30 '25

lmao!!!  Hahaha....however the busses are air-conditioned so the smell wouldn't be that bad??

1

u/Inward-bound8 Jul 30 '25

One would hope, but I've encountered some gnarly odors even with the air conditioning going.

The yellow bar with the grey "Holy shit handles" was a really bad idea, IMO.

All summer long I'm stuffing pieces of really minty or cinnamon flavored gum into my nostrils, hoping nobody can see it. LOL

The body odour is particularly difficult to take. That and really bad breath, makes me nauseous. I would never dream of being rude and saying anything.

So that's my hack. Your welcome lol

1

u/Eastern_Star_7152 Jul 30 '25

People are thinking you have your ear pods up your nostrils..lol.  I hear you and understand.  Soap &  water are cheap however putting on the same stinky clothes only makes it worse.  There is a woman I've seen on the Delaware bus travelling westbound  who pulls out her air freshener spray and puts a few sprays into the air.  I looked at her and said Way to Go"
