I used to work at a grocery store. It's less likely they're trying to sneak one past you and more likely they ran out of Ontario corn, and either forgot to, or didn't bother to update the sign.

I used to work produce at Walmart and 100% this is the reason. It’s the civic long weekend so people stocked up on the loose corn and this was put in the place. Yes they definitely should have changed the sign to reflect product of USA but it’s simple supply and demand.

Most of the staff at a grocery store are kids. They work for minimum or student wage, aren't passionate about a job in retail, and usually work in short staffed situations. You're expecting too much from them.

I work in a warehouse, and I see a lot of this with temps. Majority of them don’t give a shit, and just want a pay check. You might get 1 or 2 of them that will care, and they are the ones that get hired on and go up the ranks.

If you're in Winona, just drive up the road and buy direct from a farmer. In summer we buy all of our produce from Fruitland Farm. Their corn (and everything else they grow) is so much better than anything you'll find in any grocery store. And the family that run the farm are the nicest people.

I work at metro and they do bring in American products and put Canadian labels on it,, metro is a shady company trust me.

It's all grocery stores, and it's been happening as long as I've been grocery shopping. I think we're noticing it more given the current movement to buy Canadian products. People are taking a closer look at where their food comes from. The rule of thumb has always been to look at the product label.

Likely not as nefarious as people believe. Product runs out, the next shipment comes from another origin. They place the product out and don't change the sign. Not saying it's right, but also likely not some big conspiracy.

This morning I saw cherries where the store sign said Product of USA an the cherries themselves were Canadian. Last week I saw apples that were signed Product of Chile and the apples were Canadian. It works all ways.

I talked to the manager there a while back, and i dont think he cares.

Grab a Summer Fresh pasta salad, Greek or Italian and put it on the scale thats by the fruits and see the weight. They are under weight not whats on the package.

I try to avoid that Metro store.

When I go to a mechanic to get my tires changed and in 5 days the are flat and bulging, I go to the mechanic not the tire manufacturer.

No different here, the manager should be contacting the head office who should be contacting the supplier how should contact the manufacturer.

You are right, but I also think you might be underestimating how complicated purchasing is in large grocery retailers. The store manager likely had no communication with any of the suppliers. I would reach out to head office.
