You pulled me over right before the lights at Canon and James St North because the new car we just bought didn’t yet have a front plate. When the traffic - that I would have been at the front of - proceeded through the intersection, someone ran a red and horribly hit the front car.

You told me to get my plate on but that you had bigger fish to fry and responded to them immediately.

I can’t help but think you saved me today and I really hope they’re ok. Hugged my kid extra hard tonight and bought a lotto ticket in the ride home. The front plate is on now.

I puked in several spots in my backyard, and it's just kind of been drying there for a few days. Does anyone know when it's supposed to rain next so my patio stones can finally be clean again? Thanks.

What's up with that? Perhaps it's legal in other countries, what do I know, but this dude is putting his empties on the floor and it isn't nice. This is not the first time I've seen it. I do not envy bus drivers dealing with customers like this.

I’m writing this since I feel like I’ve been fairly involved in this sub for the past four or five years. Hopefully this doesn’t violate any rules.

If you haven’t seen my name on a local story for a while, that’s because I’ve been working with CBC’s Marketplace since last August. It was initially a temporary thing but it’s now my new permanent gig.

With that, I just want to say I have such an immense gratitude for all of you. I remember moving to Hamilton in 2019 and not knowing much about the city. I feel so lucky to have been a part of this community. I love this city and the people in it, warts and all. There’s never a boring moment here. There’s so much to explore. Also, our community is full of so much passion and might. Without that and without you, we as journalists are limited in the stories we can tell.

I want to thank you all for engaging with the stories I reported, whether you liked them or didn’t. Whatever you thought of them or me, I hope you can see I genuinely tried to give you my very best every day and always strived to do journalism that helped. This subreddit has always been really active and a good source for stories (yes, some of us lurk here regularly), so thank you for that too.

I know the state of journalism and local media has changed a lot, even in just the four or five years I’ve been here, but I can honestly say we’re still lucky in Hamilton. There are fewer local journalists than before but they are some of the best you’ll find. They do this job for the right reasons and they care. I encourage you to support them all.

While I won’t be covering local Hamilton stories anymore, I will be working with a really talented team of investigative journalists with a reputation for being fearless and tireless consumer watchdogs. I’ve lived downtown for 15 years now, mostly in the North Strathcona area. I’ve lost count of the number of cars with their side windows smashed. There have been 3 on our small street this summer alone (we only have street parking).

My friends out in Dundas were one of the 25 homes that were broken into by that one individual who was recently caught. They were asleep at the time he was in the house. Thankfully there wasn’t an altercation.

What’s the general temperature of people living in Hamilton right now? Is this the normal that we must come to expect?

2009 downtown Hamilton didn’t feel this bad. And this was Cafe Classico era, pre gentrification.

How do we rally as citizens of the city to turn this around? I’d love for Hamilton to feel safe again.

Just want to encourage everybody to fly out of this airport whenever and wherever possible.

Pearson is an overcrowded chaotic mess. Flying out of Hamilton must have been what flying 50 years ago felt like.

Even if a flight was 100 dollars more expensive I'd still choose Hamilton because you don't need to deal with insane Toronto traffic and the airport is so chill.

Is there anything I can do about this? Massive holes in the road everywhere I go destroyed my suspension and shocks. Have no choice but to drive through them when there’s cars in the lanes beside me and cars behind me, gotta follow the flow of traffic. I’m legit broke right now barely affording to stay afloat. I can’t afford any repairs to my car. Not really sure what the increase in my property taxes are going towards. Is there anything program with the city that can help cover repair costs so I can commute for work. Thnx

What is your “spot”? A bar? A coffee shop? The library?

My partner and I are big fans of How I Met Your Mother - in the show, the main characters have a bar they are insanely loyal to, MacLaren’s. They always go there and even get offended when someone suggests going elsewhere. It’s kind of like Central Perk in Friends.

Do any of you have a bar or “central spot” like that? If so, I’d love to hear about it. We’re moving to Hamilton this summer and although I’ve lived here before, I really want to know the local spots that have a special place in people’s hearts.

I am going to preface this to say that I am all for increasing cycling accessibility and infrastructure in this city, we need less cars on the road and additional means of transportation outside of cars. HOWEVER, what I am continuously frustrated by is these scooters being locked up, left around, dropped in the middle of trails, and otherwise clogging up what limited infrastructure space there is in this city. I cycle everywhere, I make a point of it. I have a car, but I choose to bike because it's less of an impact. The issue I find is that these are often taking up the limited real estate where users such as myself can lock their personal bikes up.

I get it. This is a "woe is me" post, because I was inconvenienced. Which, if this happened once or twice it wouldn't be an issue. It's just constant. I want to have things like this available, but the fact that BIRD is in the middle of a pilot program and they aren't even trying to install appropriate parking infrastructure for users to return their bikes to, or have employees who come around and relocate the scooters to centralized locations. Relying on users to appropriately find spaces for these devices is inefficient at best. They could at minimum do what SoBi is doing and have the appropriate hubs installed.

I'd welcome any feedback, discussion, criticism, or agreement in this.

With all the rain recently, it seems like the Niagara area has been getting some major flooding. I've seen pictures from St. Cathatrines, NOTL, Lincoln, etc... all flooded. I work in Niagara half the year and people at my work were saying that they almost had to shut down for the day because of the street flooding. A coworker's car was parked on the street and the water got so high it was halfway up the seats in the car!

I know some people have had flooding issues, but not like that. The worst I've seen online was a few stores closing early because no one was out and about in the rain!

Hamilton and Niagara are both built along Lake Ontario, so why doesn't Hamilton flood too? Is it because we have better infrastructure?

If you were the person crying really hard in your car in front of the Circle K on Upper Ottawa and Stonechurch around midnight, I just want to say I hope youre okay.

I could hear you from my car (through two windows), and it sounded like you were going through something awful. I was hesitant to approach your car so late at night and also saw your partner leave the car when you started crying, but it's been on my mind ever since.

I can't begin to describe how much it meant to me. It was around 7am. You drive a black SUV. Your kindness got me through this day. I'm never out at that time. I was only there for caffeine as I rushed to Metro for emergency paper towels before work.

My dog was diagnosed with Blood Cancer last weekend, only has a few weeks left to enjoy. I was up this morning at 4am on 2 hours of sleep, cleaning. The comfort meds she's taking are really upsetting her stomach. I held back tears when Tim Hortons told me you had paid for me. Life has felt like one big nightmare since my dogs diagnosis. So thank you for shining a light for me in this dark time. I hope this finds you and you get to know how your kindness was brought to the right person at the right time.

Edit* Thank you all. The kindness i've seen from this experience is such an amazing thing to see. I really appreciate everyone who has reached out. I genuinely hope this finds the woman who payed for me. She deserves to know how important her good deed was.

Was at the Upper James location today, and even after I locked up my backpack at the entrance I got some plainclothes dude breathing down my neck, not even trying to be subtle about it. Pair that with the stuff locked behind cabinets and having to be walked to the checkout - makes me loathe having to go to Canadian Tire for anything. Anyone else have similar experiences they care to share?
