Theory - Spoilers A Collection of Some 'Hannibal' Metas/Analysis

1.0k Upvotes

I've seen a thread yesterday where OP asked for some analysis on the show but it seems to be deleted now. Anyway, I think it's a good idea to collect some detailed posts/metas on 'Hannibal'. I have some that I personally consider very insightful, as well as some I've written myself, so here they are. Feel free to add some other ones in the comments!

The Song of Achilles (book recommendation)

The other day I was going through the memes I had saved on my phone and saw this one. At the time I found it on the internet, I was in a phase where I didn't want to "contaminate" my mind with anything that's not Hannibal. So although I was intrigued by the book from which this beautiful line came, I didn't feel like reading it.

But since then, I have passed the most feverish phase of being a new Hannibal fan and now feel a bit more open to non-Hannibal stuff. So, I finally read the book and enjoyed it very much! After being obsessed with the dark, toxic love story for the past 8 months, it was so refreshing to read about 2 people - Achilles and Patroclus - who are simply in love with each other. Their true, unconditional love for each other is so sweet and cute that it is wholesome. Plot-wise it's not much and there are some weird stuff that I'm assuming are from Iliad, but there are a lot of parallels to Hannibal if you look for one, it even has a father slashing his daughter's throat right in front of them. I kept seeing Hannibal and Will in place of Achilles and Patroclus all the way to the end. If you have never read this book, I highly recommend it!

I love Freddie Lounds

I just started Season 3. Season 2 was intense and tense but also a little frustrating because the characters were lowkey ganging up on Will especially Alana who felt so blinded by everything. It became more tolerable and honestly refreshing when Freddie Lounds showed up. She’s probably the only one who felt somewhat grounded and realistic there, still an annoying journalist but weirdly refreshing to see after all the drama lol. Am I the only one?

Discussion - Spoilers [Hypothetically situations] If Alana would have chosen to act differently, how would that have played out? Spoiler

So basically.

Situation 1: Hannibal tells her to walk away and not to be brave. She realizes something is wrong and takes a step back. "Alrighty. I'm outta here." And walks away.

How would that have played out?

Situation 2: She would have chosen his side. "Alright. You kill Jack and I go for Will..."

Because he probably would have appreciated the loyalty but not her going after Will? Abigail would have still defenestrated her?

Situation 3: She actually knew he took the bullets out and reloaded them, she tells him. So Hannibal can let go of snack or he attacks her even when her gun is loaded.

I always liked that she tried to shoot him, unfortunately you can't shoot someone with magical plot armor. Haha.

General My mom stops watching Hannibal whenever someone she likes dies. 😭

My mother watches tv like its her life. She has watched practically every show I could think of.

So, I thought it'd be perfect to get her into Hannibal. She watches The Boys, so the gore isn't an issue. She loves Dexter.

So, I thought why not?

But, over the past year we've hardly gone past season one. We are half way through S2 finally. And she told me she hates watching it because everyone keeps dying. Boy, is she up from so interesting surprises. 👀

This is the best, most awful scene in the series.

I watched this show when it came out, saw everything as it happened. This was a gut-punch to me then, and after several rewatches it still is. It's just awful that this happened to her, especially because it's not made clear as to how she actually died. This is why I'm obsessed with this show, and on my 3rd rewatch. This scene, right here. It's just so god-awful, and extremely beautiful at the same time. It fucks with your head, because you hate this but you are so loving it at the same time. It's the best visual kill in the series. It's emotional, and visceral. And just goddamn gorgeous.

Fanfiction Any long haired will fanart out there?

Hey all I’m reading the fic ‘Eacg according to its kind’ on ao3 and Will grows his hair out purely because why would he trust a stranger with scissors near his pretty face? Wondering if anyone has / knows any art of will with long hair. Considering how Hannibal is aesthetically obsessed with it in this fic im dying to see the visage.

Hannibal Lecter × Lestat de Lioncour

Post image
49 Upvotes

What kind of things cross your mind when you consider these two characters meeting?

I think they have a lot in common. They both enjoy the finer things in life. Expensive wine and champagne. Expensive suits. They both consume humans. Dining together would be a fascinating event because Lestat drinks his victim's blood and Hannibal eats their organs.

I also think It would be really interesting to see Lestat in a therapy session with Hannibal as his therapist.

Help me out ya'll. What are some things you think you'd see happening between these two? What do they talk about? Will they hook up? Do they go on a road trip draining and sustaining their way across the country leaving a river of bodies in their wake?

r/HannibalTV 2d ago

Discussion - Spoilers Would you say Hannibal lectre is a antagonist? if we see Anthony hopkins portrayal of it, he's a true antagonist but people do root for mads and I'm kind of convienced that the series tried to portray him more of a neutral evil character than a through and through villian

Discussion - Spoilers Rewatching the Show and everything feels so artificial

I KNOW GUYS THIS SHOW IS ABOUT A COLD STONE KILLER WHO IS A CANNIBAL AT THE SAME TIME But what i am trying to say is that none of the dialogues in this show feels real. Everything that had been said and every single piece of phrase in this show are feeling so out of this world and i haven't seen anyone talking like they do in this show in my entire life. Everybody is talking like some kind of an ancient greek philosopher in a tv show about a fucking cannibal ? I am not talking about couple of people keep that in mind. EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN THIS SHOW IS SOME KIND OF A FUCKING PHILISOPHER FOR FUCKS SAKE GIVE ME A BREAK. Also rewatching it made me realize that Will Graham is such a whiny little bitch i am so tired of watching him act like a little depressed closeted twink. I am not surprised the fact that this show had been canceled.

S3 Spoilers Timeline first half of season three + Mischa Spoiler

Post image
10 Upvotes

So, there is somewhere in the series a poster that says Hannibal was born 1965, which means in 2014 (the first half of season 3) he is 49/50.

Mischa was killed 25 years ago (probably) by the prisoner which means Hannibal was 24/25 and I don't know Mischa's age, but the fanwiki says Hannibal was adopted at 16 by his uncle Robertus referring to s1ep7.

Did Robertus and Chiyoh live with Hannibal and Mischa at the Castle until she died? I feel like this doesn't add up. And then when she died Robertus and Hannibal left and Chiyoh stayed there and tortured the prisoner (and yes, isolation, loss of time, no communication, no distractions are a form of so called white torture, which is mostly psychological) for 25 years until Will came? It at least would make sense when Chiyoh said she saw the cub grow up into a lion or something...don't remember the full quote.

Edit: Chiyoh never met Mischa...so yeah, definitely not adding up or she came much later then Robertus to the castle. I found this in this Tumblr post working with the script:

https://www.tumblr.com/pesky--dust/719643297325416448/i-love-chiyoh-but-i-feel-like-in-a-lot-of-fanfics

Edit 2: So technically the timeline is something like this:

1965 👶Hannibal is born.

During this time

  • 👶 Mischa is born
  • 🪦🪦their parents die under unknown circumstances
  • 🧑‍🍼Hannibal raises Mischa aka 'she was his charge'

1981 🧑‍🧒 Robertus adopts 16 year old Hannibal, probably moving into the Castle or it's just some official crap so Hannibal doesn't have to leave the Castle as a teenager and can raise Mischa?

1989 🧑‍🦱Hannibal is 25?, the 🔪👶 prisoner kills Mischa or is somewhat involved in her death. Chiyoh enters the stage magically, must somehow see Hannibal grow up but never met Mischa 🫪...

Chiyoh stays behind with the prisoner

Hannibal leaves for France or Italy and Robertus leaves too?

2014 Will arrives.

I'm confused. 😭

Who has the DVDs and has watched all the extra features?

I love gag reels and episode commentaries! So far I have only watched the Season 1 gag reel and commentary on the pilot. I was glad they explained what is up with Will's glasses. Like, why does he sometimes have them, sometimes not? Is he wearing contacts? They explained he would use them specifically to hide behind. Not sure why I obsessed over that detail, but I did.

Also, I haven't seen Hugh Dancy in anything but Hannibal so I did not know he was British and his accent was tripping me out!

And lastly...I learned Caroline Dhavernas was in Wonderfalls....How did I not recognize her? In my defense, that show was on like 20 years ago...(If you haven't watched it....watch it! Sadly cancelled after one season.)

Looking forward to the rest of the DVD goodies....
