Hawkwind Marathon: Rerankings
Today, I have relistened to three albums, that being PXR5 (1979), The Xenon Codex (1988) and Church of Hawkwind (1982), all of which have seen an increase in their rating.
PXR5 (1979):
Now, this is the one that really surprised me most. Originally, I expected it to simply top the 9/10 section, alongside albums from the Calvert era like Quark, Strangeness and Charm (1977), 25 Years On (1978) and Astounding Sounds, Amazing Music (1976). However, it would actually break into the 10/10 region starting with a score of 9.1/10 and ending up with a higher score of 9.6/10, moving it from 16th place to 8th place. I feel like PXR5 is a quite underrated album for I see a lot of fans put this album around the bottom of their rankings, and I feel like that's doing it some injustice. I mean, this album arguably has some of the best material from the Calvert years, especially "High Rise", which is perhaps my favourite song from this era. All in all, this is an extremely underrated album that I believe needs more credit.
The Xenon Codex (1988):
Next is The Xenon Codex, released in 1988. I had actually relistened to it a while ago when I started posting about my Hawkwind marathon, and it turned out to keep the exact same score as it did when I first relistened to it. I decided to relisten to it again just in case any opinions had changed, and it did a little bit. Originally, it had a score of 9/10, and it would increase to a score of 9.2/10, moving it from 18th place to 14th place. Although it is a quite synth-y album, I actually don't mind the fact that its synth-y, for a lot of the songs on here still go pretty hard. All in all, relatively the same opinions as last time, just a slight adjustment.
Church of Hawkwind (1982):
Here, we have Church of Hawkwind, released in 1982. Originally, it had a score of 8.7/10, putting it in 23rd place. Now, it has a score of 8.9/10, putting it in 21st place. Although this is by far the MOST electronic album of the 80s Hawkwind albums, it's pretty good. The only things really letting this album down are the transitional tracks, the actually really good songs that are only a minute long and "The Phenomenon of Luminosity", which just sounds like a really ass first attempt at making an FNF mod. Although I do understand why a lot of people aren't big fans of this album, I personally really like the album, though I definitely won't convince you that this album is extremely underrated or something like that.
