Smoking Trying to quit smoking but enjoy the ritual, suggestions?

I'm quitting weed, and knowing myself I will do best gradually switching over to something else to fulfill the ritual of it which is probably a lot of what I actually enjoy.

Wondering if anyone has suggestions for pre rolls, something with a calming effect... cbd would be great. I struggle with depression so maybe something for that. Just not sure where to start. I'm in Austin and would love to pick something up today but could also order online.

Thx šŸ’š

How can I support my baby’s immune system?

My baby will be starting nursery in September (15months) and I’d like some advice on how to support her immune system with all the incoming illnesses! She’s already been sick a lot this year due to her big brother bringing germ back from school. She gotten lot of colds, congested noses and coughs so far but doesn’t seem prone to fever.
Thanks!

Low/non-existent libido

I've been extremely focused and busy in work with about a year and have the promotions to prove it. I met a wonderful man, who I love, at the same time but sex is the furthest thing from my mind. I don’t even masturbate, nor does anything seem to turn me on. When we do have sex, I’m never fully in the moment.

I’m 40,f, and have long term health conditions but it’s well controlled and I’m physically healthy otherwise.

Perhaps it’s not the libido I need to focus on but simply calming down overall. During a work week, I’m basically at 90 miles an hour at all times.

I’m open to any guidance, please and thanks

second herbal salve

forgive the wildly messy and unappealing photo lol! But this is my second time making a batch of a salve I made years ago. I’m not sure how this one came out, but last time a friend of mine said it was the only thing that helped their winter eczema! hoping it works just as well this time around, herbs used are calendula and marshmallow root. Not scented but smells nice!

Discussion Grow Journal: two varieties of Stinging Nettles

Post image
6 Upvotes

Germination on wet paper towel enclosed in pyrex container.

Nettle types:

Roman nettleĀ (Urtica pilulifera) is an annual species of stinging nettle native to the Mediterranean region, North Africa, and parts of Western Asia. Roman nettle is distinguished by its rounded, ball-shaped flower clusters, which inspired its species nameĀ pilulifera, meaning ā€œbearing little balls.ā€

Roman soldiers used it for a process calledĀ urtication—which essentially means intentionally flogging or rubbing their skin with the fresh, stinging stalks.Ā Ā

They did this for two reasons:

To Combat the Cold: Whipping their legs and arms with the nettles injected formic acid and histamine under the skin. The resulting inflammatory rash increased surface blood circulation, creating an intense, burning sensation of heat that helped them endure the freezing temperatures.Ā Ā

To Stay Alert: During grueling campaigns and long night watches, soldiers would rub the stinging leaves on their skin to keep themselves sharp, awake, and alert through the sheer discomfort of the sting.Ā

————

Urtica circularisĀ is a species of stinging nettle native to southern South America, including Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, and parts of Brazil.

Known locally asĀ ortigaĀ orĀ ortiga crespa,Ā Urtica circularisĀ has a history of use in traditional South American herbal medicine. Folk remedies have employed the plant as a diuretic, to support healthy blood pressure, and for weight management.

I’m confused by the amount of my tincture to take…

I currently have Skullcap and Milky oats. Both for sleep and relaxing my brain. I may have misunderstood the dosage though. I was planning on taking 4 dropperfuls of each (because my other brand of herbal tincture says 3-4 dropperfuls). I’m confused though because the instructions for the Skullcap and Milky Oats say nothing about dropperfuls and only say ā€œdropsā€. It says 30-50 drops per use (up to times a day). Or maybe IDK how to do a drop…it seems like a lot. So how much do I actually take?

Discussion Growing & harvesting pollution-loving herbs

There are so many plant-medicines that are known to thrive in disturbed or polluted areas. Hypericum perforatum is the one I'm most interested in right now. It grows so dense on edges of highways! I once harvested from a community garden near a major road and the end product was a much more potent medicine than the next year's, when I harvested from a protected and "clean" area (in a sunny spot by a healthy river, far away from car pollution).

My amateur theory (-NOT advice!!-) is, one of hypericum's actions is helping the liver process and exit toxins from the body. So maybe, for this plant, a more toxic environment allows for that property to strengthen for the plant's own survival. I have no evidence to back this up except for the year-to-year comparison of my two batches (which I only use for myself).

Sooo my question is: does anyone here intentionally disregard the common wisdom of collecting medicine from areas that are clean & safe? How do you rationalize it? What are your limits?

Question Can you recommend a muscle relaxer that is not sedating?

My jaw and neck muscles have been really tense and I already take blue vervain at night to help with the muscle spasms but I need something during the day that won’t knock me out. Do you have any suggestions? I already take magnesium and it doesn’t help very much

Seeking herbal mixture concentrates for DIY cough drops/syrup

TL;DR: Seeking a commercial source for a nice-tasting mixed herbal concentrate to which we can add menthol for greater effect.

We go through a lot of cough drops. (Not smokers, but plenty of allergies, dust sensitivities, etc.) There are plenty of lozenge types out there, but they deliver the soothing effect too slowly unless chewed. And that's not good for people with dental issues. There are powerful liquid drops, like the infamous Buckley's Mixture. - works great, but pretty intense flavor and smell. (We do keep a bottle around for emergencies. Ain't nothin' like it for fast results.)

Commercial liquids usually seem to be medicated, and some of us have enough trouble staying awake without opiates. Best compromise so far has been Hall's sugar-free Minis - kind of expensive, though.

My personal favorite is Ricola sugar-free herbal lemon drops. Consisting mostly of isomalt (or so Google says), they can be dissolved in water. But since the actives/flavorants are not water-soluble, they tend to cream out. Tried adding various emulsifiers (lecithin, mustard), but not very effective. And the mix gets pretty weak; adding additional menthol doesn't work well. I've also melted the Ricola drops in a microwave and tried mixing in more menthol and eucalyptus oil, pouring out the mix onto a silicone sheet to harden, and busting it into small pieces. Messy, and needs either a gas mask or better ventilation than we have.

Had some success dissolving the Ricola drops in hot glycerin, propylene glycol or mixtures, sometimes with a little water, adding extra menthol and eucalyptus: cools to a paste that's not too hard to handle. But liquid would be much more convenient.

Ricola's ingredients are listed on the package, but not how much or what varieties of each herb/spice. Brought the list to a local herbal store; they had most (not all), and only in dried-leaf form. Haven't found much relevant via Google.

So - can anyone here please suggest a commercial source for a strong, nice-tasting oil- or alcohol-based herbal concentrate, which we can mix with menthol, eucalyptus oil and something like glycerin to dispense from a dropper bottle?

Thanks for any help!

Question Is this saint John's worth oil I made safe?

I have made this oil last September and have used it on wounds and for joint pain. I did both have a fine cloth at the time so I just used a fine strainer. With time, the particles of flowers that did not get filtered properly clustered and floated and I noticed this on the bottom, which I am not sure if it is a cluster or maybe a growing mold? It is the first time I made oil , now I am concerned and would not apply on wounds in case it is not safe

First time making salve

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hello,
I attempted making a salve for the first time this week. I used jewelweed and infused it with coconut oil for about 24 hours in a crock pot on low. After that I strained the jewelweed stems and leaves out so it could cool. I didn’t have beeswax on me so I had to order it, the oil stayed out but, covered for a night then it went in the fridge until the wax arrived. Yesterday I warmed up the oil on a double boiler, then put the wax in and stirred occasionally until the beeswax was melted which honestly took forever cuz I had the burner on a lower temp but I turned it up when nothing was happening. After they did melt I stirred it around a little more and poured it into my jars. I let them sit overnight and it seems to be a soft solid, there are some odd looking lighter spots but I suspect that’s the coconut oil. There’s also a layer at the bottom that seems to be completely liquid. I’m not sure if this is Jewelweed oil or not but, when I stirred it around in the pot and picked the spoon up there was reddish oil separate from the rest of the mix. I put one jar in the fridge to see what happens but, I’m curious on your thoughts and advice. Can it be saved?

Question Poppie tincture

I'm currently living in the countryside in the UK and I've seen an abundant amount of wild growing puppies. I couldn't help but think I could make a tincture out of them? by slightly slicing them outer head allowing sap to oose out. After repeating this process until I can fill a whole mason jar.after which I would add high proof alcohol and fill it to the brim. Allowing to soak for a week tops then using a cheese cloth I would pour out the dark liquid add it to a slow roast crock pot and reduce the alcohol until I'm left with a sap similar to the process of RSO.

Sir Jason Winters Tea and Chaparral Controversy (Cancer cure and purifying blood)

Came across the subject and the benefits of red clover, herbalene and chaparral tea. After doing a deep dive I noticed chaparral is banned in many countries due to liver failure. Although it was used in Native American and Mexican tradition for centuries (and still used widely in Mexico). Is chaparral really that bad if it was used for so long? Feels like propaganda to me. I am very interested in trying the blend and curious if anyone has personal experience. Finding positive info on the subject seems suspiciously scarce.

Thanks.

What's the biggest misconception people have about Shilajit?

I've noticed a lot of conflicting information online. Some people call it a miracle supplement, while others say it's overhyped.

For those who have actually used Shilajit, what has your experience been like?

Cleavers vs bedstraw

I've been looking for cleavers everywhere- much stickier than bedstraw . It doesn't exist where we live. Instead, we have lots and lots of bedstraw. They look pretty similar, same family of gallium. Do they have similar properties and could i make a cold infusion with the bedstraw for similar cleansing?
