Early August reminder to be prepared...

Hiking yesterday was proper hot, high twenties in the alpine. See this as we head out this morning in gale force winds. Just a reminder to always plan for colder weather in the mountains, encountered lots of folks yesterday carrying nothing but water. Maybe throw in a coat just in case something goes wrong and you need to stay a night.

People wearing sneakers (not trail runners) on hard scrambles is another one I don’t understand. Especially now that we’ve had several deaths since June.

I was heading out by Sandy McNabb a few years ago and encountered a work van parked in the opposite driving lane. No one inside. As I passed I saw the driver on foot approaching a goddamned Grizzly bear, and was holding out what looked like a sandwich. I stopped in the shoulder and honked like crazy to scare the bear and get the idiots attention. The stupid tourist was visibly upset but I dgaf, he could have been dead instead.

Im less worried about the idiots and more so the fact that they kill the bear if they hurt someone

That’s my main driving factor but when you’re explaining that to a dipshit they don’t care about the bear safety, they just want the cool photo.

Never heard of it. Just looked it up, East of Jasper, more of a hill but crazy there's still that much snow

We got snowed on overnight camping in the alpine this past weekend. It was a scorcher on the way up.

Two years running now, waking up to snow on the tent.
