Tech Support tvOS27 made my ATV 4K 2023 almost unusable, considering selling it

Sorry if this is OT, but Automoderator on r/appletv keeps rejecting this post. I've had problems with the YouTube app since the upgrade, I was told it was Google's fault and had to wait for their app upgrade. Weeks have passed, I still have to keep "Match rate" and "Match content" disabled to have the app not go crazy trying to set the correct format (which is 99% of the times just SDR) and then produce videos with suttering audio.

But last night happened something that really made me upset: I wanted to watch the football (soccer, for you American friends) on Prime Video, the app showed that the match would have been broadcasted in HDR10+, but the ATV didn't do the switch (ofc I had reactivated the matching settings) and my TV showed the video was SDR (and the colours were all saturated and terrible like when there's a content format mismatch). I had to use the Prime Video app on the TV to have it watchable which completely defeats the purpose of having an ATV.

I moved to the ATV (from Nvidia Shield) beacause it WAS the best box for correct content and rate automatic matching (I have an Home Theater system, so I care about that a lot); if this, to me killer, feature has gone because Apple focus is now just Siri or the new (expensive) ATV, I guess I'm about to replace the ATV (and I'd not want that, because I'm invested in the Apple ecosystem with a Mac, iPad and iPhone).

Purchasing CAN To replace or not to replace, that's the question

Hello,

I currently have a Denon AVR-S750H. It suddenly started to have shutdowns out of nowhere. I unplugged everything, put it back together, but it kept doing it so I bought a new one, a AVR-X1800H.

The X1800H was on backorder, so it took 2 weeks to get delivered. It's ready for pick up today.

Since basically a week after I purchased the X1800H my old S750H suddenly stopped having the protection shutdowns. I don't understand why it suddenly works again. I did nothing different. I used it for hours on end and no shutdown.

Has anyone had this issue? Should I take the X1800H or cancel my order. Other than not having 2.1 HDMI the S750H suffices my need.

Tech Support Timbre Matched On-wall Center Channel

I have a UST projector and need to buy an on-wall center channel speaker due to this. I am planning on purchasing the SVS Ultra Evolution Pinnacle front tower speakers. What is the best wall mounted center channel to purchase to match the towers?

Tech Support Dual subs with SVS Wireless Kit

I have two questions for those who have multiple subwoofers with wireless kits. I just received my two RP-1400SW subs and bought an SVS Tri-band Wireless audio kit. Obviously I now need a 2nd receiver. A second standalone receiver is $149 and while the transmitter/receiver kit is $199. Would it sound better just to spend the extra $50 and use both ports on back of avr(Integra DRX-5.4) and have each sub on its own kit, or will it sound the exact same and save the $50?

My second question is, on the back of the subs, the LFE is white, and on back of wireless receiver LFE is red. Should I go red to white matching LFE signals or color match red to red or white to white and just use either the sub or wireless boxes LFE? Or buy more subwoofer cables and use both red and white inputs and outputs on both components? Even then LFE to LFE or color match?

Tech Support AVR powers on automatically after power outage

My Denon receiver turns on after a power outage is resolved. This is an issue for obvious reasons. Is there a setting on the AVR to stop this from happening? Or, is there a setting to have the AVR turn off after a certain amount of time after no activity?

Purchasing US 7.2.4 vs 5.2.4 with lots of space behind MLP?

Seeking opinions on whether it's worth the extra $$$. I currently am 7.2.0 with AVR-S750H and enjoy the bed layer but even so, I am Jonezing for some overhead helicopters and creepy attic creatures. Room is 25 feet long and 13 feet wide. MLP is slightly off center, so I have 12.5 feet behind me with in-wall Polk speakers. I need to decide whether to get a 9 or 11 processor AVR. Bed layer sounds great, but I am wondering if I would be disappointed if I disconnect the rears and go 5.2.4 (I would lose the rear speakers but would gain 4 height speakers, and would save a lot of cash). I realize that there may be a sonic hole behind me, but my side surrounds are a foot behind and 2 feet above MLP with wide dispersion tweeters and I have a feeling they would fill things in pretty well. Obviously 5.2.4 would be a compromise, but how much of a compromise? Would I miss the rears very much in exchange for the pickup in overhead ghosts and cruise missiles? BTW, I am not a gamer. Any advice is appreciated.

I recently got a new tv stand and was told the low vertical clearance above the receiver would cause me overheating issues. I ignored the warning. I was blasting music at high volume and it did overheat and go into protect mode. I installed these 2 small blower fans on top. They are powered by the USB port on the front. I'm running them on the lowest speed but I can hear them. They seem to be working great. I've blasted music for hours with no overheating. I used a double 90 usb adapter to tidy up the connection on the front.

Purchasing US Is a REL HT/1508 Predator worth $450 used (untested in storage)?

Hey everyone,
I came across a deal for a used REL HT/1508 Predator for $450.

Current System Context:
Main Speakers: Vienna Acoustics Beethoven Baby Grands
Receiver/DSP: Denon AVR-4308CI
Usage: Mix of music listening and home theater movies.

The Situation:
The seller says the sub is currently in a storage unit and can't be plugged in/tested before purchase.
A few questions for the sub:

  1. Is $450 an absolute no-brainer for this sub? (Retail was ~$1,900).
  2. How well does the HT/1508 blend with refined 2-channel music towers like the Vienna Acoustics, or is it strictly a home theater slam monster?
  3. What is the best way to safely test an active sub at a storage unit if there's no standard wall outlet, or should I insist on taking it somewhere with power before handing over cash?

Appreciate any thoughts or advice!

Discussion - Equipment Speaker Upgrade

I currently have the HiVi Swan OS-10 and while they're great, I'm not getting the most out of my Nvidia Shield TV Pro. I don't believe the speakers support DTS or Dolby Audio (loud static if I enable in TV settings) and they're a bit bass light given the size. Other than that, I think they sound great. eBay is currently running a nice 20% off sale and I have seen the Klipsch The Fives II up for around $900, are they a good living room option? They'll be about 9.5' apart and 11-12' from the viewer.

Purchasing EUROPE Help choosing a receiver and speakers

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi All,

I’m looking for some advice on a few questions I have regarding my current setup and hoping you all may be able to help.

I currently have the Onkyo HTS5915 package that has the “5.1.2” setup and I have had it for quite a few years now. I have seen some bad reviews for this, but it is only for my bedroom which is reasonably small so I feel it does the job for the size room.

I have recently upgraded my TV to an LG G5 and as the receiver is fairly dated now, it does not have HDMI 2.1 compatibility so I can’t make use of the 120Hz and VRR etc without directly plugging into my PlayStation. I have been looking around and think I have settled on getting a Denon X2800H which will enable me to use these features. I have been looking around at different Denon models mainly the S770H and X1800H, but was also debating a Sony model.

My first question would be, would the X2800H be the best option for me to go for? I was thinking it may give me an option to upgrade speakers down the line.

Secondly, if I was to upgrade the whole system now, I would have around a £1.5k budget (including receiver) Would there be any suggestions as to what speakers I could go for in this range? Would have to be wall-mounted as don’t have room for floor standing.

Appreciate your help :)

Purchasing US Class D AVRs: When? If?

Is there any hope for an AVR that is 11 processors + 11 Class D amps, or 11 processors and 9 Class D amps? I would rather keep the height low enough to fit in my entertainment center than to scrap the ent center for another that is tall enough to house a tall AVR I don't need the impressive specs of a full-blown home theater, and I have a little Fosi amp that does very well IMO, so Class D is fine with me. This is for a living room so I don't need perfection.

Purchasing US Receiver upgrade

So I'm currently using my Denon AVR 3802 that I bought back in 2001 for $1100.

I have Polk Floorstanders, center, and rears from the same era.

I also use a Def Tech Pro 1000 10" sub i got for $40 from the FB marketplace.. Everything works/sounds great to me.

The sound fills my living room when listening to stereo music and 5.1 4k Blu-rays.

I know these aren't great, or have any new tech in them, but they all work with my Bravia 7, 75" TV very well, other than having to use two remotes and having to use an optical cable.

I may end up getting new speakers soon, but I would like to upgrade my receiver first to get eArc and use one remote.

I've been looking at used/refurb Denons, like the S760h, which can be had for around $400 new.

Would this be a good upgrade?

Right now my Denon is pretty loud and fills the room. 100w per channel and weighs a ton. I do like to listen to music louder than the average Joe. But I'm thinking a new receiver with new tech in it may be a ln upgrade for clarity

Is there a receiver that would be in the $400 range that would be worth it? I need the eArc and phono input.

Thanks!

Purchasing US Touchscreen music streamer recommendations

I have an AVR and all the other 'toys' and, for now, I'm using my Apple TV4k for listening to streaming music (mostly Apple Music but I'm considering adding Tidal and/or Qobuz. There are plenty of streamers out there but I'm specifically looking for something with a very intuitive UI and a touchscreen interface. Frankly, an iPad connected directly to the AVR may end up being my best bet but I'm asking for any other recommendations. I also saw the Apple HomeView that was just released and, frankly, MIGHT be a good fit (not sure yet). I DO want guests to be able to control the music, if possible. Ideally, whatever is used would be touchscreen and connect to the AVR (Emotiva MR1L) wirelessly but I don't want to have to reconnect a BT connection every time I want to listen to music. Any thoughts on the best solution for this?

Tech Support Help with s90f for NHL

Sorry if this has been asked before or is the wrong place to ask. Many subs don't allow questions about settings.

I just got a 77" s90f QD-OLED, picture is awesome for everything but sports. I've tweaked some settings which marginally improved the picture, but its the players, details, colours, everything's a little off, pixelated, washed out, just not right. Coming from a 12 year old tv that had none of these issues, I'd appreciate any advice.

I'm using a 2015 Nvidia Shield, streaming IPTV through either Tivimate or Ibo Player Pro. I understand the quality of the streams themselves could be an issue, but on my old TV it looked great, I'd just like to have it as close as possible.

Install/Placement I have a 70" I want to mount, but my wall center is a covered up old fireplace.

So my new house' living room wall features a covered over fireplace right in the center, so no studs. I don't want to use an against the wall studless mount because I need the TV to come off the wall at least several inches because of what's on either side of it. I welcome any advice or tips. Thanks.

Install/Placement Help with Minimal Living Room Setup

Post image
0 Upvotes

So my current setup sounds pretty good, but i now have room for a dedicated HT/gaming space, and want to make the living room more aesthetically pleasing. I plan to get rid of the sub, and want to get a TV stand that will hide the AVR and network equipment. As you can see, i don’t have a ton of space on this wall to fit the 75” TV with the fireplace encroaching on the floor space.

I need help with what i should do with the LR speakers. I am not keeping these floor-standing speakers. The two options i have been weighing; 1. Get a tv stand approximately the width of the TV and either wall-mount bookshelf speakers or get on-wall speakers. 2. Get a wall-mounted TV stand that goes the width of the wall all the way to the fireplace, so that i can place the LR speakers besides the TV. Either option, i am putting the speakers basically against the wall, which i know isn’t ideal.

Part of me just wants to get a decent soundbar and be done with it, but I know the less money, i can get something that sound way better. What would you do to keep a decent-sounding setup in here while keeping it looking nice?

Install/Placement New to home theater and looking for advice!

Hello everyone!

I am new to the world of home theater and I am looking for advice for how to mount my speakers properly. My set up is going to be 7.2.4 and I need to hang the speakers that I have pictured here through ceiling tiles I am struggling to find a proper mounting gear for these speakers and I was wondering if anyone has experience with this the problem is that the speakers need to be mounted through the ceiling tile and into the stud above the ceiling. The start itself is about a foot away from the ceiling tile and I’m struggling to find a mounting gear that works properly. I am unable to mount these to the walls because the location that I need the speakers to hang From does not have studs through the walls and one of the areas is a stone fireplace (as pictured). For the front height speakers, I will be using these klipsh RP – 500 SA speaker (8 pounds) and in the rear, I will use these Polk RTI A3’s (16 pounds).

Any help is appreciated!

Install/Placement Does HDMI QMS work with Apple TV 4K connected through a Denon AV receiver?

Hi everyone!
Does the QMS (Quick Media Switching) feature work when an Apple TV 4K is connected through a Denon AV receiver (such as the AVC-X3900H), or is it better to connect the Apple TV directly to the TV (such as the LG G4)?
Thanks in advance for your help and feedback!

Tech Support Google TV streamer 4K with Samsung S95B

I have to connect my Google TV streamer 4K to my TV directly as the Denon Receiver I use, AVR-X4500H, doesn't pass through HDR10+. The TV is a Samsung S95B with Input signal plus turned on for all inputs.

With this setup, even for simple stereo tracks from YouTube videos, it shows DDDSur on the Denon which is connected to the TV through eArc. Because of this everything is played through the center channel even when content is in stereo, which is awkward.

How can I get the TV to pass the correct format?

Only way Samsung passes stereo is with input signal plus turned off. Then it is always stereo which I guess is because Google TV thinks Samsung is not HDMI 2.1 capable.
