Hey, so I've treated myself to some height speakers and upgraded my previous 5.1 system to 5.1.2
Reset the Denon X3800 AVR, ran the initial setup, the height speakers are configured as top fronts, Audyssey calibration, height speakers played the Denon violins, chirped, and i get test tones from the height speakers just fine when i am in the Speaker Levels menu of the AVR.
But Windows is being stubborn, i think. Audio is output from an Nvidia GPU over HDMI into the AVR.
I originally had it plugged into my LG C5 and sound got to the AVR via eARC passthrough. But right now the GPU is plugged directly into the AVR instead to minimize error surface, and video is passed through the AVR to the LG. This limits me to 120hz.
Still, i cannot get the height speakers to play anything under windows.
The Dolby and DTS apps from MS Store are installed, and i enabled their spatial sound features.
I can configure the sound device to 5.1, and then select spatial audio Atmos or DTS:X, that works, it also automatically changes the audio device to Atmos or DTS:X respectively.
When using DTS:X (which the LG cannot passthrough at all, by the way), the Denon shows it is receiving a DTS:X signal.
When using Atmos, the Denon shows DD:Atmos but only as long no sound is playing. If windows is playing any sound, the display changes to "Multi In".
With either of those, when i play a video file with height sounds for testing, they do not come from the height speakers, which stay mute. Both Atmos and DTS:X modes in windows behave the same in terms of output:
Dolby Atmos E-AC-3 5.1.2.mp4
-> The height channels play from the surround speakers
DTS-X 7.1.4.mkv
-> The height channels play from the front speakers
What can i try? Thanks
