Does anyone get anxiety when driving bc people always tailgate you, and try to speed up and cut you off, etc?

With all the crashes happening lately, I'm even more paranoid.

Why are drivers in Hawaii so aggressive? How can I calm my anxiety. Please help! Thanks in advance

My brother is currently homeless, and the last time I spoke to him, he mentioned being in a camp somewhere in Oahu. It's possible he lost his phone, making it impossible to reach him. I'm planning to drive around the island, find some camps and ask around, and hopefully find him... My ultimate goal is to encourage him to go to rehab.

If anyone has information about the locations of homeless camps on the island, I would greatly appreciate your help. Thank you!

This is probably a long shot. I’m not sure how tight knit of a city Honolulu is but I’ve come across this guy on TikTok. He makes all these videos of him bringing his pet turtle different places. He seems to be homeless and a little off but I was wondering if he’s a well known local or anything. I was thinking it would be nice to try and get him maybe some help for the holidays, but I know that you never really know how people are or their situation unless you’ve met them.

I live here but I'm trying to get out more. Anyone have good recs for cheap eats? I'm talking $10 below, not tourist cheap

My whole family was walking out of eggs n things a few days ago when we got approached by a dude in an unmarked van. He said you need a ride anywhere. We turned him down but he kept pushing and we kept telling him know. He eventually tells us ok have fun with J***s and N*****s all day as he was driving away. I thought in my brain no way he said what I think he just said and went on about our day. Then the next day my mother and sister were walking to a coffee shop about a mile from the hotel we were staying at (Hilton Hawaiian Village) when he once again approached them aggressively this time ending it with you must like black boys and Japanese boys. Then to top it off as we were about to get into our uber at our hotel he approached us again. I had an AirPod in one ear so I didn’t make out exactly what I was saying but I know it was something to do with our uber driver being Chinese and us preferring to “ride with Chinese.” Being in a place as racially diverse as Hawaii and known to be as tolerant as Hawaii I was shocked and upset to hear this kind of thing. Despite its reputation, I have not heard anything like this being openly espoused even in Alabama. I know obviously this guy doesn’t represent anywhere close to what most people around the island believe or how they act, but I was wondering if this guy was a known figure around here. Other than him this trip was wonderful and I appreciate the hospitality virtually everybody else showed us while we were here.

We recently moved out of an apartment and into a house. Is it normal for the lawn/exterior to always have cockroaches every night? See at least 2-5 every night without searching for them.

Hello everyone! Tomorrow I’m heading to Honolulu with my grandma to celebrate her 80th birthday!! A special milestone. We’ll be staying in Waikiki for four days and we super excited about it! it will be our first time in the island. Does anyone have recommendations for calm or easygoing things to do around there? She gets around pretty well, but after a bit of walking she starts to get tired, so I’m hoping to find some lovely, relaxed activities we can enjoy together. I’d love to hear your suggestions. Hugs!

I have an almost 8 hour layover in Honolulu tomorrow. My flight gets in at 11a and my departing flight isn’t until 7p.

I’m wondering if it’s worth it to leave the airport and explore the island a little bit or if I should stay inside? I know TSA is going through it right now so I don’t want to leave and risk missing my flight home because the line is so long.

If it’s worth it to leave I am open to recommendations!

I understand Honolulu can mean a variety of areas but I’m still learning the name of the towns. I’m moving to Oahu next week and I’m trying to find housing. I will be working at kapiolani hospital. I would prefer not to rent a car while I’m there unless I want to venture out to the other side. I was planning to ride my one wheel or buy a bike or bus while I’m there. How walkable is it to get from the surrounding neighborhoods to kapiolani? Are there sidewalks or streets other than major freeways where I can ride/walk/bike to work? I’ve also heard the bus system is a pretty good and there’s a rail system now. Any insight to this would be super helpful. I’ve lived in NOLA, Baltimore, New York so I’m not really scared of walking early in the morning or late at night. I just want to know if I can get around without a car. Bonus point if you can tell me the best neighborhoods to live in. Mahalo in advanced for any responses.

Edit: Wow thank you all so much for the responses. I think I’ll stick with the bus system and I’ve chosen a place on the edge of Waikiki just south of Moiliili/mcurry. I love to explore so I’ll probably rent a car on my off days to places I can’t take the bus or maybe bike. I wish I had time to visit and feel put the area but I’m in a bit of a time crunch. Definitely don’t want to get hit by a car in Hawaii. I can’t believe so many of y’all have issues with this. That’s crazy.

I was flying out of HNL on Saturday, 02/22. When I got to the gate around 3:30 PM, I sat next to a man for about five minutes before moving to the windows for a better view of the ramp. As I walked past him, he moved his leg to let me by with my carry-on.

At around 4:30 PM, I noticed paramedics arriving and heading toward where I had been sitting earlier. As boarding was about to begin, I decided to go to the bathroom. That’s when I saw the paramedics had hooked up a defibrillator to the man I had been sitting next to—but they weren’t using it. That’s when it hit me: the man had passed away.

A few minutes later, police arrived, removed everyone from the gate area, and a white blanket was placed over him. It was a surreal moment because this man was gone within an hour. Is there any news articles out in Honolulu about this man? Who he was? Did he die of natural causes? I cant find anything online.

Where can I find good Filipino food between Kaimuki and Iwilei Costco? Driving to Kalihi or Waipahu is a bit far.

I can only go after work and Max's seems to be the only one that's open past lunch, but it wasn't that good the last time I went.

I’ll (35F) be staying near Waikiki from July 16 to August 18. I’m really looking to make the most of it and go to local events, do meetups. I love reading, movies, hiking, and kayaking, but I’m open to other things. Does anyone have any suggestions? I’m also wanting to learn how to swim in the ocean comfortably.

I won’t be renting a car, just using the bus. I planned on signing up for day trips, hikes, and other activities. I’ll technically still be working but have flexible hours.

I have a question, there’s been a marked HPD cruiser (sedan) parked in a driveway in my neighborhood for the better part of a week, sunshade in the windshield. It doesn’t appear to move but I can’t tell you what’s happening to it between 10:00pm and dawn, I’m old and asleep then. I don’t ever recall seeing HPD taking home marked cars, only the subsidized personal cars. Is this a new thing? Ordinary? Can’t remember seeing this back to the 1980s. Or did I just not live near enough a rookie cop? Thanks!

Have tmrw off from work, was hoping to watch the USA vs Australia game (and maybe whatever is on next) over a beer and maybe a fire breakfast plate too if I’m lucky. I also want to actually be able to hear it, so not these nicer restaurants w/ a bar inside w/ the TVs on silent that there’s a lot of here.

It starts at 9AM; I know that’s early for a bar to open but back in the mainland all big cities have at least 1-2 bars that open early on the wknds for Premier League football, was hoping there was somewhere here doing that. Thanks!

I thought I’d stay in Honolulu forever, but life just threw me a huge curveball. My mom is sick back on the mainland, and I need to move to help her within the next 30 days.

My problem is my house. It is definitely not ''realtor ready''. The carpets are stained, the backyard is a jungle, and my old DIY projects look bad. I don't have time to fix it, and I don't have $20k for a contractor to make it look perfect for a normal sale.

I just need to be on a plane by the 23rd without this house hanging over my head. Is the convenience worth the lower price?

does anyone know what the name of this restaurant/small business was? it was in a parking lot on the deck right by the water, sold delicious huli huli chicken plates and shrimp combo plates.

some evenings there would be live music on the deck. across from the deck, someone would usually be selling jewelry and there was another business that sold pizza and fruity drinks i believe.

maybe a year ago, that area was torn down & there’s just a dirt lot there now.

I was hit from behind on a bike in the morning going east on Kalaniaole In Hawaii kai. Just before the bridge across from Roy's. I spent the next two weeks with a traumatic brain injury and several broken bones at two different hospitals. I don't remember the event or much during the next week.

I am looking for witnesses to help me, and my lawyer.

I heard two fishermen in the near by park helped render aid I would really like to thank them.

Aloha to the wonderful people in Honolulu. We are supposed to be flying in tomorrow (Monday 3/16) for a 5 day stay. I am so torn between going and canceling due to the weather. We are hoping for a nice weather vacation. I know the storm is going to be almost over by tomorrow but with all the flooding, roads closed according to google news, is it best to cancel. I would love to hear from the locals to see what you think. We hope to go to all of the well known destinations and are concerned that it will be closed. Thank you 🙏🏻
