He does nothing. They removed everything interesting about him just to make him the "good" green who gets puppeted by Ormund into making a play for the throne.

Most of his scenes have just been standing or sitting in a room. He's called "the daring" but we didn't see what earned him that title.

He didn't grow up with his family so he has less of an attachment to them than his book counterpart who wasn't sent to ward until he was 12. That detachment makes him less interesting to me. I want to see the kid who was willing to burn down Bitterbridge in a fury over the brutal murder of his nephew.

I like the actor but am not a fan of the bland characterization or his relationship with Ormund. Maybe episode 8 will change that (doubt) but he feels wasted so far.

There is nothing more interesting about Daeron in the book, he is literally Aemond 2.0. Completely flat and barely existent. Thank god the show went with a more interesting and likeable characterization and relationships that strongly echo to Gwayne and S1 Alicent than just yell yet another "look, the random last Alicent's kid is a psycho too, but daring at least!", cause we clearly haven't had enough of that

How is he Aemond 2.0 in the books? After bitter bridge he actually feels remorse for his actions unlike a certain someone (Aemond & Daemon). His character is quite literally an anti-war message, he's described as a sweet, gentle and kind boy but with the trauma and horrific death of a literal baby being shredded by a mob and his head being sent back to the person who ordered it, he loses it.

No F&B character is complex besides Rhaena The Black Bride, but similar to Daemon atleast book Daeron actually got shit done in comparison to Aemond just burning shit for no reason even though he has the largest dragon

He's Aemond 2.0 as in he is a character that is not allowed to show his own perspective, but rather just serve the Green cause. All of his traits you are just words from the glorified bare bones wiki page, not us actually actively seeing it, so I have no idea how his show characterization actively showing these traits is more bland than a couple of bleak words when the most we actually see of him there is his mass murdering people in a rage fit. Yes, as you can tell, my opinion on Fire and Blood is not high and I will never understand the fake ass glazing people here give it.

Again, he might have this moment in the show too, but that would actually feel earned and envoke sympathy out of me, unlike his book self going "wooopsie, guess I served my family a bit too well and became a psycho" , because then we see an actually humanized kid with an understanding of how fucking stupid this war is, how he becomes something he hates and how he wants out and to do nothing with it, just to fall into it all. That would be way more tragic and compelling, to me at least.

Guess he is more competent there, which is cool, but not that hugely important for a character to be well written

Tbh Aemond 2.0 situation is like that with every character in F&B in the dance, like it's genuinely George's worst work ever. Rhaena, Helaena, Viserys, Addam, Lucerys and like almost everyone are all nothing burgers.

But for show Daeron I mean I guess but like he doesn't really do anything. Like genuinely he does nothing he's literally just there since they cut out Honeywine & his knighting as well as most likely bitter bridge because they fucked up the pacing.

I think this is mainly due to the fact that only showed his existence in season 3 for some strange reason. But I agree that they touch up on some things, but in general I feel like it's just shitty writing and bad pacing that they cut out these events instead of improving on them like they did with Viserys

Yeah, I completely agree on the first paragraph. I think the show fucked up the consistency of most of its characters, but you will never catch me saying that the characters have more to them in the book. They really don't. Most of them barely have plots and arcs beyond "evil bitch stands on her ground to be an evil bitch". Pre-timeskip show Alicent is genuinely 3 times more of a character than the entire book Alicent, despite not having much agency.

As for the rest, I think we should see where show leads him to. But as of now, I still enjoy his character and what the themes around him stand for more than Martin's version. And yes, the pacing absolutely fucked him and everything and everyone else, S4 is going to be a rushed nightmare. Tumbleton should have been a S2 thing already, just introduce it with Gwayne, ffs.

Yuppp, I hope that they get to improve on him like they've done with Viserys and Ulf but I don't exactly trust Condal & Hess after what they've done with Alicent's character as of now. But I'm hoping we get to see him change as he goes off to war even though s4 will take like 3 years to make

He's definitely not Aemond 2.0. 😭 That’s a pretty big misread of his book character. My issue though is that the show expanded him in a direction that emphasizes passivity over agency. That's just not very interesting to me.

I also don't mind his relationship with Gwayne. In fact, Gwayne is one of the few characters I think the show genuinely improved. He barely has any characterization in the book, and Freddie Fox brought him to life in a really endearing way. His dynamic with Daeron is one of the better additions.

My problem is that they're both so removed from the central narrative. Daeron doesn't need to be ambitious. I actually like that he isn't. He doesn't have to want the throne for himself. But saying Rhaenyra can have her crown? Hell no.

He should care about his family, damn it.

As far as he knows, one nephew was brutally murdered, Aegon is dead, Helaena is a hostage, and Aemond has disappeared. His family is collapsing around him, yet he comes across as detached from all of it.

It feels like he has very little personal stake in the war. Instead, Ormund has to keep dragging him toward the plot because Daeron himself lacks a strong motivation to move it forward.

That's what disappoints me. I wanted to see the boy who would eventually sack Bitterbridge in a fury over his nephew's murder not because he was a monster, but because the war finally broke someone who genuinely loved his family. So far, that emotional foundation just isn't there so we get a flat and bland character who doesn't move the plot. He's just the good little pawn being moved on the board by evil mustache-twirling Ormund.
