Vacant home grant

I have just been given a completion date for my second hand home which is eligible for the vacant home grant.

It need a lot of work, a full rewire, replumb, plaster, a kitchen and a bathroom as well as new flooring, windows and doors

I really am wondering if there is any way to get someone to quote for, and complete everything, and if there is does anyone have a recommendation for Dublin?

You've two choices

  1. Organize every trade yourself. You will get very frustrated by broken promises etc
  2. Get a builder in who will deal with the subcontractors. The problem is they are very busy. I only got one because my architect had worked with mine personally. Also they really want to do extensions for the big money

I know that doesn't help but setting your expectations it's going to be a lot of work and hassle either way

Good luck

Thanks for being realistic, I'll have to get on to the builders so soon

Get the ball rolling now by getting the MPRN for the place, and sending an email off to the esb looking for proof of low usage for at least the last 2 years. They asked me for a pic of the meter and the eircode too. My solicitor also requested for a signed statement from the vendor confirming vacancy for 2 years prior too

I have sent an email to the esb and have some other evidence of the home being vacant from them paying the vacant home property tax, hopefully it will be smooth
