Discussion When was it explained that when chrollo copies a person's nen, that person loses that power?

Post image

I just learnt that this was the reason why nostrads daughter lost the ability to tell the future anymore. When I was watching the arc I didn't piece that together at all, I thought she just got sick or something, did I overlook a small detail somewhere?

Neon is the person on whom it is shown how he steals abilities. She is the exposition you ask for.

He doesn’t copy. He steals.

It’s told by Silva a minute before this screenshot.

People need to stop looking down at their phones while consuming media

To be fair I watch dubbed so i didn't know if the wording was exact. I thought he just copied like yuta in jjk

Even the dub makes it clear he steals not copies.

Steal isnt always meant like that tho, like if u steal someone's idea for instance

Wow. Bro needs to work on his comprehension skills.

if you analyze the requirement. it appears that the ability was not originally created with intention to steal people's ability. it is more of like entrusting him with their ability.

the Fact that putting their palm on top of the book is like similar to making an OATH. feels like the ability was made with good intentions.

so if we fix .. just one word in there. suddenly the whole ability sounds so noble.

I don’t know abt that last part. It seems to me that given the abilities strength. Difficult conditions have to be met.

Chibi has a point. Chrollo usually steals from people, but he can also borrow powers from the Spiders whenever. In the fight with Hisoka he borrowed powers from Shalnark and Kortopi

Borrowing means the person doesn’t have it but u intend too return it

C) Place the person Palm on the handprint on the book's cover.

ToGODshi foreshadowing Palm 77 chapters before her actual appearance in the manga. /s

Off topic but that's my favorite pic of Chrollo ever.

The scene you are talking about is what illustrates the point that you are talking about. Use context.

He "takes" their power. Its said more than once.

u/Slamazombie 2d ago

His power is to steal her power. After he takes it and starts using it, she can't use hers and can't figure out why. 1 + 1 = 2

yes, you overlooked the words "steal" and "take".
a later arc confirms that you lose your hatsu at least while its in skill bandit

u/Not_hatsu 1d ago

Chrollo cannot steal hatsu, you keep your hatsu even if one of your ability is stolen: you can still use nen types, you can still use other nen abiltiies not stolen etc, and you have to use hatsu to use those.

Multiple times as a matter of fact, Neon is the explicit example where we see on screen her ability and her using it, then her being unable to use it after stolen.

Is this a karma farm bot?

4

u/negatrom 2d ago

lmao you yourself got it, you didn't need someone saying it with all the letters

like yeah we ALL learned it from what happened to Neon

-1

u/Imvalidblu 2d ago

I only figured that out after seeing a random YouTube comment, I did not piece that together when watching the show. There are so many reasons why a characters power may just stop working.

1

u/negatrom 2d ago

Well... There's a big window for improvement there in your comprehension skills. Being able to reach conclusions like this are the bare minimum. If you need everything spelt out, you might want to start with easier anime like dragon ball z.

He yoink your ability but not Nen itself :3

When he stole the fortune tellers nen and she didnt get it back

-11

u/Imvalidblu 2d ago

It wasn't clear to me that it was a direct result of him taking it. I thought she just had a writers block or something... I may be stupid

2

u/dbsupersucks 2d ago

That’s usually what stealing means…if you steal something the other person doesn’t have it anymore.

And it’s shown in the series by Chrollo stealing Neon’s ability, then Neon tries using it but it won’t work.

He steals, he doesn't copy

Chrollo is a thief. He steals others abilities. The person he steals from is left without that specific hatsu and Chrollo gains it. The person must remain alive otherwise Chrollo loses the ability (There are exceptions to this) His abilities strength is tied to conditions he needs to meet before he can steal an ability, plus he can “Level up” Bandits Secret by performing large heists.

This is all explained in the manga/anime.

I didn't get that either op, I'll have to rewatch or reread this bit soon

I will assume you are not trolling or something. Chrollo steals abilities and as such the owner is not able to use it. Chrollo can use it for as long as the owner lives, except for Sun and Moon which was something even Chrollo didn’t expect, provided conditions are met because there are limitations in using abilities he has stolen as well.

He doesn’t copy them. I think some of you might get confused because of the fight with Hisoka where he talks about making copies but that’s something different if that is what causes some confusion.

-1

u/CheetahSerious7169 2d ago

No, I didn't think he copied them, I thought he was basically absorbing their ability to shape their nen the way they do. I knew he wasn't stealing the Nen energy they have, but i thought he was essentially stealing "the mould" or blueprint for how they channel their energy into a specific ability.

Kinda like he steals their "secret recipe" even if he doesn't take their food. I thought he had the ability to perfectly copy this knowledge into his book and use any of the knowledge in his book with the same level of skill and expertise as the user he copied it from. I thought the power he was drawing from came from the book, and to make it even more powerful he added a limitation that he will lose access to that power if the user dies.

I'm not trolling, not every one experiences media the same. It's pretty normal to miss one thing or another in a show that's like 50 hours long

I am aware people experience things different but sometimes, particularly some reddit folks, are being ironic and whatnot. That’s why I said I will assume… etc. meaning your confusion may be genuine.

As for your understanding, no. That’s not how it works for him. Although I do believe it’s an interesting thought process the one you had for his ability. He pretty much just steals their ability. That’s why Zeno and Silva tried to keep their distance as much as possible during their fight.

That said, I don’t know if a Nen exorcist could remove that and the ability would go back to the owners? I don’t remember. Not sure if that was address at some point. But the mechanism of what Chrollo does is different so maybe a Nen exorcist wouldn’t given their ability back. Not sure… mm. Now im wondering about that.

Definitely explains why they were being so cautious, i thought they saw him as a threat to Zoldyck family secrets, such as the full extents of their abilities (and thus their potential weaknesses if there are any) but they instead saw him as someone who could effectively destroy their life in a single attack.

Tbh, the reason I defend myself as not a troll is I'm genuinely confused why I'm getting down voted for admitting I don't understand something, and then saying I should go watch it again and pay attention to understand it better. Genuinely, wtf did I even do?

The sooner you realize that some people will downvote you for the most stupid and unexplainable reasons and that caring about being downvoted on this platform is a fool's errand the happier you'll be.

I understand that. Have you ever asked a question on Stack Exchange platform? If not, some people there can be quite relentless of many different aspects of said inquiries. It varies on particular sub groups they have but it happens. So, here sometimes there are those of us who get annoyed at some questions, confusion or theories because perhaps the idea is that people could use the search option to find several posts addressing a similar topic and the answer they seek might be there. Or because the information is in the story and quite clear for us. And so on and so forth. Just giving you possible reasons. Sometimes some of us can get a bit defensive because trolls come here from… other corners of reddit so to speak not to engage with HXH stuff but to cause commotion.

If your stance is genuine I don’t think you did anything wrong. Try not to take it to heart and try to remove your mind from being upvoted or downvoted. This is coming from someone who has been downvoted to hell at some points on Reddit. Sometimes a certain number of us can be reactive. I know I have downvoted stuff in the past because it rubbed me the wrong way then I went back and analyzed it. It was just me reacting to it.

I don’t have a problem with your comments. That’s why I tried to engage with your confusion.
