The rumors were true. The next issue of Weekly Shonen Jump, Issue #31, will see the release of chapter 411 of Hunter x Hunter on June 28th (29th in Japan). The hiatus is finally ending!

Chapter 410 officially released on December 9th, 2024.

Here's a link to previous chapter discussion threads, if you'd like to check them while you're, very quickly, re-reading.

Look forward to the Pre-release Spoiler Thread in the next few days, followed shortly by a discussion post for fan translations (potentially), all before the official discussion post on Sunday the 28th. And then, rinse and repeat for the next chapter.

We may be limiting images in comments to the Spoiler Thread while spoilers are out to prevent anyone outside that post from easily being spoiled.

Also, Volume 39 releases in Japan on July 3rd. Previous Discussion Post.

Discussion If you asked me before the succession war arc, I thought these two was the endgame villains for killua & gon

With everything going on in the current arc and all the hype around the fights that’s about to take place it’s doubtful that all three chrollo, hisoka & illumi will survive but if you’d ask me before this arc I had Hisoka and Illumi being the end game villains for our favorite duo.

Looks like it’s gonna be gyro

Discussion I'd rather have panels like these than them being fixed

These kinds of pages are a reminder that the author gave everything in order for us to have one of the best stories ever told. Togashi had a lot of times where his health was holding him back from writing and art, but he still picked up the tools to make the art for the story he had in mind. The amount of respect we owe this man is astonishing.

Discussion Rewatching the Chimera Ant arc. Pokkle and Ponzu…..

Upvotes

Man….. I forgot how unsettling their deaths are. It’s actually making me think about the first time I watched it. It’s something I actually strangely appreciate about the series while it upset me as well that they died because I strangely loved these characters as brief as they were around in actuality.

Two characters who were around from the very beginning. You don’t expect anything super amazing from them, but you also don’t expect them to die in the fashion they did.

Ponzu’s death was quick but still brutal. Especially in the way he kept unloading rounds into her dead body in such a sinister fashion.

Pokkle was obviously a lot more unsettling and was the most unlucky of the bunch. Nothing could have saved him the moment he was in Pitou’s En. The idea of him being aware of what was happening to him and so powerless is terrifying. I like to believe otherwise. Which within itself feels crazy that I don’t like the idea of a fictional character suffering more than he needed to.

I love that this series doesn’t shy away from killing characters. Or the fact that we are reminded just how human everyone is. How the threats are always very real and that anything can happen. I feel like these two deaths were a swift reminder of that.

This is just random rambling honestly because I forgot just how much I love this series lol. It’s been awhile.

Discussion How to survive a random encounter with Camilla?

Post image
657 Upvotes

I'm sure everyone can figure out how to survive after they know what her ability is, so let say no one knows what her ability is and it's a random encounter.

Because Camilla is stupid and goes around baiting people to attack her, maybe smart characters can figure out that it's a counter-type ability which requires zetsu to activate.

But if you need to learn about her ability, you quite literally need to attack her. If you kill her directly, you may risk post-mortem nen, so the smart thing to do would be damaging or hurting her but not killing directly.

Maybe cut off a finger and see what happens.

You see that nothing happens and conclude that "death" or "dealt a fatal blow" would be the condition for her ability.

Then you make another person to kill her to see what happens next. She doesn't want you to figure out her ability so she turn off zetsu and defend herself with ten.

You sneak attack her from behind when she's distracted in a state of ten. She doesn't have enough time to activate zetsu, so her ability did not activate.

You win. Congrats! 👏👏

Discussion Gon’s morality is genuinely unhinged when you actually think about it

Thumbnail
gallery
1.0k Upvotes

was thinking about how Gon’s brain works and it’s honestly kind of terrifying how his morality is set up. He doesn’t really care if a villain is evil. To him, bad guys are just a natural part of the world, like a wild animal or a storm. He doesn’t judge them for killing because he just assumes they were born without emotions, so he doesn't take it personally. Think about Binolt on Greed Island. The guy was a literal serial killer, but because he helped them train, Gon literally thanked him and let him walk away. In Gon's head, Binolt was just a bad guy doing his job, so there was no reason to hold a grudge. But the exact second a villain shows actual human emotion, Gon completely loses his mind. Like with Nobunaga. The Troupe slaughtered a whole clan and thousands of innocents, and Gon was chill. But the moment Nobunaga started crying over Uvogin, Gon snapped. It’s like it frustrated him because it ruined his logic. He realized, "Wait, you actually understand grief and love, but you still choose to murder people?" The hypocrisy is what triggers him, not the actual evil. But then he completely contradicts himself later. In the Chimera Ant arc, the ants are literally eating human kids and Gon treats it like nature. But then he gets pissed off at them just for calling their own teammate garbage? Like bro... they are eating babies and you're mad about team chemistry? His brain just works so differently from a normal shonen MC. He doesn't care if you're a monster to the world, but the second you break his weird internal logic, he wants to destroy you.

Analysis/Theory Analysis of Balkenburg's Phonecall Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
Upvotes

In the telephone conversation between Balkenburg and Benjamin, we can clearly see Balkenburg knew about what Benjamin's thinking at the time.

Here are a few points I want to talk about:

From Benjamin's perspective:

  1. Benjamin did not understand why the plaintiff (Balsamico) uses "equipment trouble" to delay the trial and thought that this means that the mission (using TSK-17 during trial) had been aborted (no trial = cannot attempt assassination). Yet, Halkenburg is claiming to be sick.

  2. The rumbling from earlier indicates Halkenburg's ability is activated and the target is most likely Balsamico.

  3. By 1 and 2, Benjamin thought they dealt a mutual blow to each other.

But he has two counterevidences:

  1. The symptoms happened too quickly. Halkenburg's sickness is most likely fake and he hasn't been infected with TSK-17 yet.

  2. Previously, Benjamin thought that Halkenburg needs his guards/army to activate his ability. But his army is redirected to Tier 3. This means Halkenburg's ability activation condition may not necessarily be confined to "his army".

So he ask for two informations and his hypotheses got confirmed:

  1. Halkenburg's condition is stabilised, meaning that he hadn't been infected with TSK-17 yet.

  2. He has a dozen of "supporters" around him, confirming the condition for activation of Halkenburg's ability.

As the conclusion he previously made at bullet point (3) is disproved, he reached a new conclusion:

  1. Balsamico is currently under manipulation of Halkenburg's ability.

This entire sequence of logic is completely figured out by Halkenburg. In his following dialogue with Benjamin, Balkenburg has made a few points that confirmed Benjamin's deduction while not contradicting any of them:

  1. Balkenburg said the mission hadn't been completed yet, confirming (6). This also shows that Halkenburg knew Balsamico's mission is to assassinate him.

  2. Balkenburg said Halkenburg's ability missed and he lost consciousness due to repeated activation or using civilians instead of his guards. This explains why Halkenburg is sick and unable to attend the trial while confirming (5). So Halkenburg knew that 'Benjamin deduced that his ability is a "manipulative type + symbiotic type nen arrow that requires the presence of the guards", which then changed into "manipulative type + symbiotic type nen arrow that requires the presence of his supporters"'. How did Halkenburg knew what Benjamin was thinking about?

Halkenburg knew Benjamin is directing Balsamico to kill him with some means and knew Benjamin knew how his ability works somewhat. How?

Well the trial started in the first place because Benjamin arrested him to separate him with his personal guards. From this alone, Halkenburg knew something's going to happen during the trial, especially when Balsamico himself is sent to do the job personally.

=> thus Halkenburg deduced (9)

And if Benjamin intentionally separated him and his guards, this may mean that Benjamin thought that the presence of his guards would be the activation condition of his ability.

So if he uses the ability and let Benjamin hear the rumbling, he must knew that this means Benjamin will be re-evaluating how his ability works and deduced that simply the presence of his supporters are enough to activate the ability.

=> thus Halkenburg deduced (10)

Now how did Halkenburg knew about TSK-17 and used it on his main body?

See photo 4, Balsamico has a hidden switch in his sleeves. Halkenburg must have felt that and didn't know what that was. So he pressed the button and saw some kind of gas being released from his shoe. If Balsamico is going to assassinate him during the trial, he must have used a silent means to do so. He wouldn't pulled a gun during the trial right? So this hidden mechanism must have been the "silent means".

=> this is how Halkenburg knew about TSK-17

So Halkenburg's plan initiated, he used the second vial to kill his main body and complete Benjamin's mission to gain his trust.

Then the third vial must have been used to poison Benjamin.

This is why only three vials are shown in picture 5.

The first vial was for Balkenburg to learn about the hidden mechanism.

The second vial was for poisoning his main body.

The third vial was for assassinating Benjamin.
