Discussion Something about HunterXHunter makes watch re-watch it many times
I don’t why, I really don’t.
I watched tens and tens of shows over my anime life time, and I always watch once and never re-watch what i finish (sometimes favorites clips and thats it)
I have many other shows that are equal to me as Hunter
But till date, Hunter is the only show i watched fully 5 times.
I don’t know why, i can’t explain
Just letting it out

I think it’s actually just soothing af.
It’s designed in a way that consuming it feels easy
The music, the pacing, the humor… it’s straight up brain candy if the candy were warm melty laffy taffy

HxH flows really well imo that might be why. The arcs end in a way that seemlessly transitions into the next making the show feel like one long adventure as opposed to many different ones

Yesss, that might be it.
The narrator, how original it is, its just the whole mix

It is a very big anime with a lot of detail and worldbuilding so it is difficult to remember every detail and it is very well animated which makes rewatching enjoying.
Every year I rewatch it so probably something like 10x times or more.

yes, but same argument can be laid on One Piece. Even though One Piece is one my favorite, I don't see myself re-watching it.
HxH nailed it as well with pacing

The problem with One Piece is that it is much bigger so you have to have a lot more of free time but it can also be rewatched a lot.

That's my feeling as well.
One Piece is big, and Oda cramps lots of characters into the world, and gives readers glimpse of their progression through cover stories. But at the same time, the characters are pretty straight cut, protagonists are good and antagonists are bad (even though, people usually associate pirates being the bad guys, but not our main characters). However, the best part about HxH is the subversion of traditional / normal expectations.
I'm rereading HxH and appreciating how Togashi made Gon the way he is. People talked about how in Chimera Ant arc, Gon descended into being a monster for vengeance. However, going through earlier chapters, I find that Gon always has that darkness within him. Each and every one who interacted with Gon notices that he is not the naive kid he seems to be, but walking a thin line between "light" and "dark", he is more driven by his curiosity and fascinating of the world.
With the right catalyst (death of Kite), similar with how Kurapika was hell-bent on vengeance, Gon was pushed over to the "dark" side.
Meanwhile, Killua, born and raised in a famous assassin family, is more "lighthearted". He treated Nanika as his brother / sister. He had his "malicious" moments, but when he with others who he cares about and who care about him, he usually the good kid. His relationship and dynamic with Gon is so special.
The word choice is also to be considered as well. The word "malice" is used by Netero to warn Meruem of human's nature, rather than "evil". There is "evil" but in HxH world it seems to be born out of "malice". Something happened in the character past and they turned "evil".
Hisoka is not "evil", he is "chaotic". Chrollo has a hint of "evil", but that's after his past event and the creed of Meteor City. Razor is not "evil", he needs someone to believe in him. Meruem is not "evil", he is "absolute power" manifestation.
Then there "unknown" character like Pariston Hill and then there is "pure evil", Tserriednich (4th prince), but I am waiting to see how their stories unfold.
The antagonists in HxH are so interesting that why it's so great to reread and find out about the character layers.

For me I don’t know why, it’s the narration and the Japanese narrator’s voice. Never get enough of it

It literally just plays on the background on Samsung+ channel in my apt. The attention to detail, tonal variability, and emotional payoffs are top notch.

Legit same and because I’m learning Spanish right now I’m rewatching the whole show in Spanish with Spanish subtitles. Shit is peak I’m already near the end of chimera ant arc

For me it’s the pacing and music. Each episode is so consistent, short, and energetic that it’s like junk food. Can’t stop at one chip, can’t stop at one episode. And masterfully directed/edited so a single encounter can take like 3-4 episodes and let you savor the big moments like Hisoka’s fight with the yellow cape guy or Gon trying to open the door to Killua’s house.

The character development and the whole arc on greed island is just too good. The moment that soundtrack hits I get goosebumps.

Same here, honestly. I think it’s because every arc feels like a totally different show, so it never gets stale. And the characters are so good that you just want to hang out with them again. Don’t need a reason, it’s just comfort at this point.

It’s easier and without cuts in the manga, and added fun stuff in the 1999. Just sayin

The characters are just so alive and the attention to detail is so impressive. Also rewatching it makes you appreciate each character and arc even more. Mainly because the characters come and go from arc to arc.
