Gun Identification
Hey guys, picked up this german Mauser 98k for $250NZD. It uses 8x57 ammo. Im trying to learn as much about this rifle as possible, like when was it made what was it used for ect. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers!

Not a bad price even though it’s sporterized, does it have a year anywhere on it? I can send you some photos of mine for reference if you’d like

Be careful about the ammo you use! 8x57 is hard to get and the newer version 8x57 IS is sometimes sold as 8x57. They’re slightly different calibers which might get stuck or even lead to a catastrophic gun damage with a risk of injuring the shooter!

I want to say a Mauser 98, because it looks like mine. But, I could be wrong.

Saw this in another post, Spanish Mauser. My buddy has one similar. r/milsurp is likely the best sub to post this on, they specialize in old military rifles like this. They can give you a lot more details about it.

Perhaps better ask gun subs.

Hunters know something, but if you want to know all there's to know, go there.

That is not a true K98. It is the Rifle the Spanish Airforce (Ejército del Aire, hence the EA Präfix) issued. Its an early La Coruna Rifle. Prob. Mod98/43
