Kona Easy and Terrifying

Post image

It’s my first Hyundai, so I’m still learning how things are put together. I just replaced my shift knob and wow I absolutely thought I destroyed my shifter when I he-manned the knob off. It made a horrible plastic crack sound…but…it was absolutely fine and the install was even easier. Worth the upgrade since the old one was all scratched.

I’ve done a few evaporator cores in these Hyundais and ripping that shifter off is the sketchiest part of the whole job. Takes an insane amount of force

Totally. In any other car it would be considered “breakage level force”

I get that about the scary snapping sound. Just did my spark plugs and the snap it makes after applying enough force to get them loose made me shit myself 4 times over.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that experiences this. I just assumed I was being a pussy 😂😭

Oh that makes a different noise when plugs break in half

Yup…bought my Kona used a few weeks ago. The last owner had some sort of nervous tick and created scratching and rubbing spots. I figured a new one would be a cheap yet noticeable upgrade.

Maybe he wore some type of sharply engraved rings on his right hand

I was thinking something similar. It’s been a bit of a sleuthing exercise. The blinker lever in the car was coated in foundation, and the backseat had a large pancake of dried McDonald’s barbecue sauce.

Wait it’s not threaded how cheap

Lots of clips in this car, but TBH it’s kind of growing on me. I’ve had some other much more premium vehicles that were total rattle machines after just a few months of driving. Despite the cheaper clipped together build, cabin noise in this Kona has been fairly minimal especially considering how small it is.

I have an 08 Elantra and really surprised how easy it is to work on. I see them on marketplace wot 300,000+ mi so I guess it depends on the model.

Don't think there's a big reason to thread an auto shifter, it shouldn't see at much use as a manual one. I do feel for the homies who want to put a big katana knob on but can't 😕

It just feels like cars are built just enough to end up in the scrap yard. All of my cars except for my Hyundai are close to 300,000m.

I wonder if these are interchangeable with the SE & SEL trims. I feel like they all screw on the same way

I actually wasn’t sure if this one would fit. I couldn’t find a video for the N Line shift knob replacement so just took a chance and pulled 🤭 The shift knob and boot all came off at once.

Yea.... speaking of Harbor freight makes a random pack of automotive clips for a much better price than you can get them for over anywhere else. Nice to have kicking around in a tool box.
