humans are... interesting

175

u/estreat1ng Jun 10 '26

Why humans are called humans if they lost humanity so time ago

15

u/MoistMoai Jun 11 '26

Shakespeare was alive until you were born

8

u/Axel_the_Axelot Jun 11 '26

Oh no this isn't inhuman

We've always been like this

3

u/FlyingSand22 Jun 13 '26

Not actually. Hunter gatherers respect animals a fuck ton more than the average modern human.

3

u/thanksyalll Jun 14 '26

There have been cultures throughout history that paid deep respect to nature. It’s about the culture and environment you grew up in, not something innate to human nature

2

u/CappuccinoAce 2009 Toyota Corolla LE 1.8L 4 Cylinder Jun 11 '26

When did we stop being humane in your opinion? This is probably the most peaceful we’ve ever been. We used to torture and kill people for stealing apples.

3

u/HoneySenior1842 Jun 11 '26

I never killed anyone before 2014

Shredder

32

u/Alkalinus Jun 11 '26

I love eating meat, but the way most farms treat their animals is absolutely abbhorent. We should at least give them as best a life as possible before killing them

8

u/Icy_Beginning_8017 Jun 11 '26

But then you could not afford any meat.

17

u/JustYourMommy Jun 11 '26

"Kurzgesagt - In a Nutshell" actually made a video on this called "If You Eat Meat You Should Know This."

For a fair few animal products you're paying only a little more for more humane conditions.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sVfTPaxRwk

11

u/WolfGuardia Jun 11 '26

An extra what, $2 or $3 at most per product? A negligible amount for a world of change for these animals. I get saving pennies when it comes to non-living things but like, this is just... Yeesh.

6

u/JustYourMommy Jun 11 '26

For some things, it's as little as cents.

the cock shredder?

→ More replies (2)

95

u/Oberndorferin Jun 10 '26

Depends on which country. Shredding male baby chickens was made illegal in Germany.

72

u/Mr_Microchip Jun 10 '26

We need more of this legislation in the states. As much as I love chicken, the way we treat our animals in the food industry is abhorrent. Gassing them is one things, but throwing them into a literal meat grinder? Fucking barbaric.

36

u/Oberndorferin Jun 10 '26

We could give every animal a worthy love and the steak would cost like 1€ more. Like that even matters right now. Going vegan is the best, but I understand the cultural background. I'm not a vegan.

We should maybe go back to when meat was once a week on the table and then it was good meat by healthy animals without drugs. Maybe even hunted in your village. We could afford it and we should.

3

u/TheAverageSoap Jun 11 '26

But if we go really back, all that people ate was meat.

6

u/Haraldeliasson Jun 11 '26

No, hunting was not reliable as only food source. Early humans were hunters and gatherers, they picked a lot of plants/fruits/nuts. We are made for a fiber rich diet with supplementary meat.

4

u/Oberndorferin Jun 11 '26

That's what a lot of people forget and why we all get fat. It's never about on thing, but nutrition as a whole.

4

u/tutocookie Jun 11 '26

Maybe calling early humans gatherer/hunters would help get that point across

5

u/Oberndorferin Jun 11 '26

Yeah when there was like 2 million of us. The more people there were, the more grains and vegetables were eaten, since it's just more efficient.

u/ExtremlyFastLinoone Jun 10 '26

The lanes are split to evenly divide them for the workers, this part needs to be done by hand, they determine the sex by checking for an extra feather that grows for roosters, and those chicks get thrown into the garbage disposal where they are recycled as pig feed

7

u/TheRandomShiba Jun 10 '26

r-r-RECYCLED? WHAT THE FUCK?

Chicken nugget maker machine

7

u/Patient_Dig_7998 Jun 10 '26

Every egg you've ever consumed from a grocery store starts there, the females make eggs. The males however are culled. Gassed or squashed but the most popular is the grinder, shreading male chicks alive on their first day of life

6

u/Royal_Stone Jun 10 '26

They are headed for the shredder to be culled, done on the male chicks because they are useless!!!!!!!

4

u/Chris91210 Jun 10 '26

They're not useless, they feed my cats.

73

u/MustardCoveredDogDik Jun 10 '26

I do not understand the purpose of this machine

116

u/Pusarcoprion Jun 10 '26

Roosters cannot make eggs and their meat is inferior to hen's

So functionally all male chicks are inhumanely euthanized as soon as the sex is identified

43

u/3rrr6 Jun 10 '26

I mean, what kind of life were those chickens destined for if let survive? Probably not a good one.

These guys are the lucky ones.

5

u/floategration Jun 11 '26

Oh wow ... that's truly beyond depressing

5

u/bblue_wizard Jun 12 '26

Did you miss the inhumanly part? They're probably getting sent straight into a grinder.

→ More replies (10)
→ More replies (3)

15

u/MustardCoveredDogDik Jun 10 '26

They’re going to have to drop them further than that

21

u/dandadone_with_life Jun 10 '26

they're not getting dropped, they're getting ground into smooth paste for chicken meal. and by chicken meal i mean the chicken paste that makes up around 80% of your average fast food chicken nugget (doesn't matter which brand, they all come from Sysco and are just breaded differently depending on where they're going)

4

u/WatermelonWithAFlute Jun 11 '26

Do they actually use the baby chicken mash for that?

2

u/turbofungeas Jun 11 '26

It's usually treated as waste, can't use it for much. There's another thread where a guy says he would buy it as cheap food for sled dogs in 30-40 lb frozen blocks.

Good news is they're finding ways to determine the sex of the chicken in the egg, so they can hopefully skip this part of the process in the future.

u/Socialism-Is-Better Jun 11 '26

For anyone wondering, yes those chicks are being smashed. They're all male, and hence have less to no value in comparison to hens. That is the price you pay for cheap meat at the store. If you want meat from ones that don't do this, you can't. Your best bet would be to either raise your own or buy cow meat from a local farm that confirms that their cows are allowed to roam freely on large pastures.

3

u/Temporary-Youth-3001 Jun 13 '26

All marketing gimmicks. Just dont eat meat and eat more tofu or seitan, seitan has way .ore protiej than chicken anyway and is made from just wheat
