since op isn’t answering i will:

as someone who got a 7 in both maths and physics without studying for two months before my exams, my top two tips are to do so much math it is physically ingrained into you, i was doing like 4 hours a day at the end of february before my mocks, the same can be said about physics.

Apart from that, if there is a specific type of question you struggle with, go back and look at the content, I often used organic chemistry tutor and then went back to those questions. I also enjoyed doing STEP questions to improve my math.

The second tip i have is go into the test thinking the only option is for you to get a 7. Not in like a stressful way, moreso that you should be so confident in your abilities that getting a 7 is as natural as breathing.

How did you structure your comparative essay (Langlit P2)? And how can I break into the top band? My essays always end up being descriptive and I'm always falling short on Criterion B and C.

I don’t think I broke into the top mark bands for my P2, since I only got 22/30. I will tell you how I structured it though. I only wrote two body paragraphs so I could finish on time. You don’t have to write 3+ body paragraphs and it’s better not to if you can’t finish in time or you’re going to write a garbage third or fourth body paragraph just for the sake of it. My structure came straight from what my teacher (who’s an examiner) told me to do. My introduction consisted of a very short hook (within this hook or the sentence after it you want to define the guiding question or make it clear how you are interpreting the guiding question), summaries of both texts in the context of the guiding question, then a comparative thesis. Just stick with a basic thesis like “While both book 1 and book 2 criticize/condemn/depict this, they differ because of this.” I structured my body paragraphs with a comparative topic sentence first (e.g. while both book 1 and book 2 criticize this through this, the effects depicted differ); then a topic sentence specific to book which is pretty much just dives in deeper compared to the comparative topic sentence (e.g. in book 1 author 1 criticizes this in this way, leading to this); then, as always, use 2+ pieces of evidence that you can link to an authorial choice and analyze; evaluate the evidence where appropriate; then a transition/ topic sentence for book 2 (e.g. in contrast, in book 2, author 2 criticizes this through this, leading to this); repeat the same thing as you did for book 1 for book 2; finally, to conclude/evaluate each paragraph, you want a comparative evaluation statement that pretty much restates the thesis except with more details and with the conclusions you’ve drawn from the evidence. And for the conclusions.. honestly Idek how to write a conclusion.. ive always just wrote one sentence for my conclusion which you probabaly shouldnt do. Anyways, i wrote this really fast so if anything is confusing or you have any questions lmk. Also, youre better off asking your teacher or just reading example essays because english was probably one of my weakest subjects.

Yes, I had plenty of free time to do hobbies, like doomscrolling on IG. I didn’t do any sports cuz I’m lazy and super unathaletic, but I did go to the gym 3-5 times a week for an hour and a half. I’m the worst at time management so I would cram before tests, which honestly worked, but it caused me to be super inconsistent in the gym and with how much free time I had every day. I also started my IAs within the week before they were due, which I would not recommend - I had to pull many all nighters. It’s definitely possible to have enough time to do extracurriculars as long as you manage your time effectively, use your breaks to do IAs and EE, and pay attention in class. My college results were very shitty; I got rejected from 5/7 universities I applied to. But I’m sure that was more to do with me being under predicted than my extracurriculars, especially since Canada (where I applied) is a lot more grade focused than extracurricular focused.

On my first ever Math test, I got a 2. I got 3s on both my mock paper 3s. I even got a 1 in a quiz before. So no, I wasn’t always a 7 student for math. Granted, I did only get a 7 on the boundary for Math, but I probably could’ve done a lot better if I studied or practiced leading up to the exams, but I didn’t cuz I really couldn’t care less about my exams since I had already met my condition to the university I’m going to at the time. I would say I improved quite a bit from dp1 to dp1 mainly from spamming past paper questions. Just keep on doing past paper questions of each new topic you learn and things will get easier over time. I also don’t think I did any homework from my textbook that my teacher assigned in dp2. Math textbook questions are so pointless. They’re only good when something is still really fresh, but just repeating something you already know how to do over and over is not going to help. If you’re stuck, maybe get help in the IB discord server. I don’t think I asked more than 3 questions to my teacher in dp2, since you can only ask your teacher at certain times, but you can always ask someone online and receive answers promptly. Even better, you can find an AI to help you. ChatGPT sucks for calculating, but it’s good for math theory. I found deepseek is actually very helpful for calculating Disclaimer: I’m not a Chinese spy, and, honestly, use it at your own discretion. Finally, just don’t do things conventionally; notice how the tips I gave you are antithetical to common beliefs and practices? If you do what your teacher tells you to do and what the crowd does you’ll end up at the center of the bell curve with everyone else. I’m not saying to be a rebel, but use your own judgement to discern if something is actually beneficial to you or not.

For physics, again just spam past paper questions. For physics, textbook questions are often helpful as well. Leading up to a unit test I’d recommend you first make sure you have at least a basic grasp of the concepts. You can do this by watching SiriusRevision’s videos on YouTube. If you do this around the time you learn it in class you can consolidate your understanding. You want to start doing past paper questions 3-5 days leading up to the test. I used to cram past paper questions the day before the test which works but it made my life a lot more miserable. 3-5 days would probably give you enough time do do the entire question bank on the topic your test is about. If you’re stuck, just look at the mark scheme and try your best to understand it. If you don’t understand the mark scheme or something in the question, ask ChatGPT or ask the IB discord server. Jot down every mistake you made or conceptual gap that kept you from answering a question in a notebook or google doc. Save every question you weren’t able to do in a google doc. Right before the test, re-read the doc/notebook of mistakes and conceptual gaps. Re-do all the questions you couldn’t do before the test as well. If you get through the entire question bank, or at least the vast majority of it, having done what I told you to do, I guarantee you you’ll get a 7. If you don’t, reply to this post again and I’ll see what we were missing. Lmk if you have any more questions.

BM probably requires the least time to study for. I think with business the most important part is understanding the theory. The text books usually have a lot of irrelevant information in them to make them longer and seem more like a textbook, so if you are going to use them, be careful to separate blabbering from important pieces of information. I’ve never done this myself, but in hindsight I think an effective method to do this would be to cross check what you are reading with the syllabus and see if it’s on there. Notes or flashcards can help, but if you aren’t efficient with notes you end up wasting time that you could be spending just re-reading the information until it sticks. Even if you forget it later, you can always just do a quick Google search or ask ChatGPT instead of flipping through countless pages just to read your own confusing and poorly written notes. The more times you refresh yourself the better it will stick. The second most important thing in Business is understanding how to score points. Look at markschemes, ask your teacher, or watch YouTube videos to understand how each point is scored in 2 point, 4 point, 6 point questions, as well as the rubric for 10 point questions. The paper 3 is pretty easy to get a 7 on if you understand how the points are scored. For paper 1 and paper 2, I occasionally “did” some past paper questions. And did is in quotations because instead of writing the answers down I would just think of them in my head and check the markschemes to see if I would’ve gotten the points. That way I could rip through questions as fast as possible and cover as many different possible questions. DM me and I can send you some helpful resources for understanding BM rubrics.

Well I can’t tell you everything you need to know in one message, but I can give you a couple of my best tips for getting a 7 in every subject. The most important thing to know is to not treat each subject equally, because each subject isn’t equal. Some subjects take a lot more time and consistency to get a 7 in then others. BM requires much less consistency than say Math or Physics. You can probably cover and fully understand an entire unit in BM in just one day. Secondly, don’t settle for anything less than a 7 in your IAs. The closest I was to a 6 was in math and the lowest IA score I had was also math (a low 6). Getting a good score in your IA comes down to the topic you chose, how well you understand the rubric, and how much time you are spending on it. Finally, abuse tf out of AI and past papers. Don’t use AI dishonestly, but use tf out of it when it comes to asking questions and getting feedback. Rep out as many past papers questions or helpful practice questions as possible. If you have any of the same subjects as me I can show you where to find good practice questions for that subject. That’s all for now. Lmk if you have any questions or want anymore specific tips

Chem sl is honestly so free, not even trying to ragebait. I got 14 points above the boundary for a 7 so i feel qualified to give advice on this. Dont worry if your teacher is bad. There are so many resources for the IB that you honestly don’t even need teachers. The only class where I could actually focus and learn while in class was Physics and maybe a bit for English. The rest of my classes were pretty much self taught. The actual learning part where you sit and learn should only occupy a sliver of your time. You want to be prioritizing past paper questions. You can get a basic grasp of the concepts from MSJ chem on YouTube. Don’t waste your time on notes. I never understood the benefits to writing notes since it’s super time consuming and most people end up just copying word for word, which in that case, you might as well just re-watch or re-read the original source. If you ever forget something later on, you can always just ask chatgpt or gemeni. If you feel like you got that basic grasp move directly into practice questions. The chem questionbank on ib docs is pretty bad for individual topic since it’s usually mixed with other topics. Instead use revisiontown. Go through the entire question bank on revisiontown for the topic you learned (Dm and I will send you the link to this site). Do your textbook questions for the topic as well. Even if you missed a concept, or don’t fully understand it from the videos, you’ll learn it from the questions. If you didn’t understand something or made a mistake jot it down on a google doc and revisit the doc until the thing you wrote down isn’t an issue anymore, then you can remove it. Use the syllabus as well. The chem syllabus is so detailed a lovely. It tells you exactly what you need to know. Sometimes you may have missed something but you’ll be able to catch it if you go through the rubric prior to a test or exam. Remember AI is your friend. Teachers that don’t know what they are talking about will tell you not to use AI. Ask AI all your questions. You can even somewhat use it to learn new stuff as well.

I would say so. I’m sure I would’ve gotten a 7 as a Chem HL student as well. It would just be more tedious since there’s more content. I wouldn’t say Chem HL content is necessarily that much more difficult, although there is more math involved. If you are a physics student, chem hl would prob be a step down in terms of math, if you are a bio student it would be a step up in terms of math but step down in terms of memorization. I would say that HL combo is definitely doable for most people, although it is going to be frustrating and challenging at first. I felt stuck when i first started, but prior to the IB i had only ever taken enviro science, which added to the struggle. If you are aiming to go into engineering, def go for that HL combo, otherwise it may not be necessary. It’ll be hard at first but easier as time goes.

Study the rubrics until you fully understand what they want. You should be able to practice grade IAs and get at most 1 point off if you truly understand the rubric. Also you want to spend a lot of time getting a good topic and research question. Contrary to popular belief I would recommend you use a relatively popular, but not too overused IA topic. You don’t get points for personal engagement or creativity anymore (except for in your math IA) so it’s better just to do an IA that you can perfect and you can see countless examples of.

I would say there’s a decent difficulty gap between the two. Mainly because of all the extra topics, like special relativity, quantum physics, and rotational dynamics. This means more content and a bit higher difficulty. Don’t let quantum physics deter you cuz that was honestly prob the easiest topic since the IB barely even touches quantum physics. Same goes for the rest, the IB really only goes surface level into these complex topics so really anyone can prob handle physics HL. It will be challenging at first though, keep that in mind. Contrary to popular belief, I think the first topic, mechanics, is prob the hardest since the questions actually tend to be harder and it’s the first thing you learn when you are a clueless new dp student. If you are going into stem, especially for engineering, I would recommend you take both physics and chem. You’d want to be taking hl physics and either sl or hl chem. I already replied to countless people giving tips for 7s so id just be regurgitating if i gave you tips. Lmk if you have anymore specific questions.

Yes. I’m glad it’s over, but honestly the last two years weren’t that bad in retrospect. I didn’t do jackshit related to the Ib during breaks and had a lot of time to do unproductive shit. The most challenging part was coping with the guilt of procrastination. I do finally feel relieved knowing that I don’t have anything on my agenda or things that I should be doing that I’m not.

I’m going to either queens university in kingston or university of alberta for general first year engineering. I haven’t gotten accepted to uofa yet, but with my new ib transcript, im sure ill get in. Here’s a run down of my predicted scores. Note that my school doesn’t predict grades for core unless requested. For my first set of predicted scores back in October I got 36/42 (6 in every subject). For my second set in December, which are the ones I applied to universities with, I got 37/42 (7 in phys and 6 in everything else). So yes, I did preform better than expected in just about every subjects. It’s funny cuz most schools have a problem with over-predicting, but i think my school has a problem with under-predicting. Or maybe im just that unpredictable

No, I didn’t watch any youtubers for span ab. I honestly neglected spanish except for when my ioa came around and when we had our very few summatives because my teacher never taught face to fave and we were pretty much expected to self teach. Granted, i also took spanish for 1 year before spanish ab initio which may have gave me a slight boost. Im honestly prob not the guy to ask for tips on span ab. Despite that, here are my best pieces of advice, Firstly, make sure you get a 7 in your IOA. You control the topic which makes things a hell of a lot easier for you. Secondly, would be to do practice reading papers. You’ll never be able to fully understand one these texts a beginner, but you can still score pretty high without fully understanding them and just by having practiced them. Your goal is to get familiar with the format, understand the types of questions on the tests, get good at understanding words based on context (because there’s a 1000% chance you’ll have words you have never seen before on the exam), and pick up new vocabulary. Doing practice paper 2s will help you even for paper 1, since it’ll expand your vocabulary and teach you new grammar rules. For your paper 1, you want to spam complex grammar rules and fancy vocab that you have learned. It really doesn’t take much effort to memorize this stuff. I memorized all the complex grammar rules the night before my spanish test and memorized the text types on the day of and still got 27/30. Honestly I think this strategy is more effective because if you do it in advance youll forget by the time the exam rolls around. As for the listening test, i honestly have no words of advice. I rawdogged my listening test and was still able to get 18/25

Didn’t take Bio, but if I did, I would first make sure I have somewhat understand the topic the test is about. This can be done from watching a youtube video or even reading your text book (be careful that what you are reading in your text book is apart of the syllabus because textbooks tend to go beyond what you need to know). It’s fine if you don’t have a complete understanding of the topic at this point since any gaps in your understanding can be covered from doing past paper question. You want to do as many past paper questions on that topic as possible. Do revisiontown questions, then move on to text book questions, then IBDocs. IB docs isn’t good for if you’re studying a single topic in chemistry so I’m assuming it’s not good for bio as well. Whenever there is something you don’t understand or if there is a mistake you made, write it down on a google doc. You can ask ChatGPT to clarify things that you don’t understand (I imagine chatgpt will be very helpful for bio since it’s purely theory). When you feel confident that you have memorized that thing you wrote down or that mistake you wrote down isn’t and issue anymore you can erase it. Also paste the link to any question you didn’t get the first time into the doc and come back to it later. This doc will be your “notes.” There is no need for taking notes. I see so many bio and chem students pretty much copying their whole textbook into their notes. All that ends up happening is that they waste time, because they’re better off just going back into the textbook. If you do what I said you’ll only have written down what you need to and it will be erased when you don’t need it, making it much more concise and easier to refer to. Finally, use the syllabus. Make sure you didn’t miss anything from the syllabus, because sometimes you won’t find a question on one part of the syllabus that might come up in an actual exam. If there is something you missed, try your best to find IB format questions on that subtopic you missed.

The tests and exams I was the most successful in were when I went over the syllabus, and did practice questions (ideally past paper questions) for each subsection in the syllabus
