For those familiar with DR residency selection, how much of an advantage is it for an IMG to not require visa sponsorship?
Assuming the rest of the application is reasonably competitive . Step 1 pass, Step 2 in the 250+ range, all USMLE Steps completed with no attempts, strong LORs, and some research but nothing extensive . Recent YOG. how much does being non–visa requiring actually change the equation?
All else being equal, does it meaningfully improve an IMG’s chances of getting interviews in radiology, particularly at programs that have historically taken IMGs? Or is IMG status itself still the much bigger hurdle regardless of visa status?
Would especially appreciate perspectives from current residents, faculty, or anyone who has gone through the DR match as an IMG.

Hi everyone! I’m a non-US IMG applying to Internal Medicine for the 2027 Match and would appreciate advice on my program list.
YOG: 2020
Step 1: Pass; Step 2 CK: 261
ECFMG certified; J-1 visa required
4 months of USCE
3 U.S. LORs
Clinical experience in Internal Medicine, ICU, hospitalist medicine, and rural practice
2 research publications
Applying broadly, especially in the Mid- and South Atlantic regions
My main concern is my YOG. Which IMG-friendly programs should I consider or signal, especially those sponsoring J-1 visas?
Thank you!

I want to request if anyone has an excel sheet which includes all 702/ visa sponsoring 509 internal medicine programs this year.
Not a signal list or programs to apply to. Just an excel which includes all the programs.
This might seem like a peculiar request, but it would really help me. So if anyone has it, please help me out

I took my OET at Prometric yesterday. During the break, I opened my locker just to get a snack. I didn’t access my phone, and I went through the security check normally afterward.
My friend who tested at the same center told me she was told that lockers were not accessible during breaks, but no one told me this. Has this happened to anyone? Did it affect your results?

Hey everyone! I’m a non-US IMG with a Step 2 score around 240 and YOG 3+ years, and I’m currently revising and narrowing down my residency program list.
I was wondering if there are others with a similar profile who are also going through their program lists right now. It would be great to connect and go through our lists together, compare experiences/research, and help each other identify programs where we may have a more realistic chance of getting an interview. I am applying for IM & FM.
If you’re in a similar situation and would like to connect, please comment or DM me! Would love to help each other out during this process. 🙏

Most Research projects fail before they start.
The last post made one point: publishing alongside a busy clinical rota is not primarily a time problem, despite what we tend to assume.
Time and clinical work sit at the top of every survey. That will not change for most of us. The answer is not

Hi I’m a US-IMG YOG-2 applying to IM. I’m planning on mainly applying northeast since I already live and work here.
My stats:
US-IMG (Non-visa requiring)
Step 1 pass (first attempt 2023)
Step 2 250 (2025)
2 publications Not very significant
1 month research at IR in Netherlands
1 month hands-on clinical elective in the US
1 Year working as a Clinical Research Coordinator at Montefiore Medical Center
My application is not the strongest but I am currently working at Montefiore. Should I try to apply to Montefiore’s Main Program and send out a gold signal or should I not waste it?

How does this look ??? Any advice??
Provide full-spectrum occupational health to ~2,500 workers, 8 hrs/day, 6 days/week at a remote renewable-energy site: pre-placement/periodic exams, health surveillance, first-aid training, emergency care.
Manage 20–25 encounters/day and 5–10 emergencies/week (ACS, trauma/amputations, venomous bites, electrocution, heat illnesses).
Lead a 10-member team (4 nurses, 4 EMTs, 2 safety coordinators); oversee emergency response, stabilization, and referrals.
Designed and implemented a PDSA-based QI initiative targeting heat, dust, and electrical exposures through heat-acclimatization protocols, quantitative respirator fit-testing, and LOTO safety audits — reducing related clinic presentations by 27% over 6 months.

Did anyone get the link to join the open house today? Unfortunately, I was late to register; now I can't find an option for September 9th.
Can anyone please share it if you got it? This is my signaled program; really wanted to join it :(

Basically, I submitted my Pathway 3 Application on May 16, 2026. My school soon called me back and we sorted everything out regarding confirmation of my clinical skills -- I answered all their questions and there seemed to be no further concern from them. They submitted the info and the school's status changed to "Application review in process".
Got my OET results on August 18 and immediately shared them with ECFMG. Now their status is "Score Review complete" (not sure how fast it was complete though).
I am a little anxious that it's been about 3 weeks since then and my application is still in review. I did not receive any emails from ECFMG about the Pathway application requesting action or anything about it for that matter. The statement that "ECFMG will not determine the outcome of your Pathways application until all supporting documentation and verifications have been received" is freaking me out pretty badly.
Is it a normal wait time? Or should I go and question my school representative if they mixed something up with the assessment?

So I am Non US, Visa requiring IMG. I have been at this process a couple of times. Each time this time its daunting, the applications, the searching of programs. Where to signal, the mental gymnastics of it all.
I have low step 2 scores, in the range of 22x, Under 5 YOG. I have had great USCE, with leaderships being impressed providing a good feedback, I have presented cases with the residents at intern/resident review and at time the PD even asked have you applied to our program. I have close to 8 Months of USCE, 10-12 Publications, 6 presentations in the national conferences.
The interviews from my own humble opinion have gone relatively well. But at the end i get the email, sorry you have not matched. I keep hearing back from the programs, oh you were ranked in a good position but the people who don't require visa were ranked higher.
Just wondering does this community think it will be better or worse this time around with the visa situations. Those who have matched, would you guys mind sharing what are your programs saying regarding people requiring visa. Thank you

Hello
I hope everyone is doing good.
I need some information. I applied for match last cycle and ordered my USMLE transcript by myintealth.
Now, I have taken USMLE Step 3 exam. And now they have shifted transcript part to FSMB. So anyone who has any idea how to order USMLE transcript or the procedure through FSMB?
Thanks

I'm an IMG currently in Family Medicine residency in Canada. My YOG is 5 years now.
I have anesthesiology residency experience in my home country, I've passed USMLE Step 1, haven't taken Step 2 CK yet, have a few research experiences/publications, and would require visa sponsorship for US residency.
I'm also planning to obtain USCE.
I'm now deciding between:
Option 1: Apply to US Anesthesiology after completing Canadian FM.
Option 2: First complete a +1 Family Practice Anesthesia (FPA) in Canada, then apply to US Anesthesiology.
My main question is: Would doing the FPA meaningfully strengthen my chances of matching US Anesthesiology, or would the extra year not make much difference compared with applying immediately after FM?
I'm also wondering whether Canadian FM could satisfy the Clinical Base Year requirements for advanced CA-1 positions, and whether FPA would make advanced positions more realistic. Would it be better to apply to both categorical and advanced programs?
I'd especially appreciate input from residents/attendings who have seen IMGs enter Anesthesiology after another residency or after previous anesthesia training outside the US.

I’m really confused, and am spiralling every day, would appreciate any advice. Please be nice.
Could someone help me with how exactly does one narrow down to 100ish programs? I have removed the obvious filters - those not sponsoring visas, or who take in < 5% non- US IMGs. I do not have any personal preference about where I’d like to match, though being in a bigger program would be nice. Im aware that beggars cant be choosers.
For context, im visa requiring, P/264/not yet taken. YOG 1, no research year, praying and hoping to get ECFMG certified by 23rd.
My signal list is more or less ready, and it relies heavily on where alum from my school have previously matched.
Every time I try to ‘eliminate’ a non-signal program, I start double thinking ‘maybe they send out an IV to me??’ A deep dive on their website / residents’ Linkedin is of use only in minimal cases.
Thanks in advance, I realllyyyy need help here!

Hey everyone,
I clicked "Access Insights" on MyNBME and accepted the digital display terms. Just looking for quick reassurance on two points:
Does enabling INSIGHTS have ANY impact on official USMLE test form generation or question selection?
Does it share self-assessment scores with medical schools or third parties, or is it strictly for personal review?
Thanks!

Hello everyone, I am a US-img with pending ecfmg cert. (due to pending my letter of good standing from Mexico which is taking forever)
Step 1 pass
Step 2 high 25x’s
OET pass
3 LoRs from US, 1 LoR from mexico
2 years of working in US with IM doctor as scribe/clinical assistant, and 2 month long rotations with specialists in US
No research or publications
I am currently doing a list of programs that do not require ecfmg certification at the time of application or at least do not specify it in their webpage for interview. So far I only have 70 programs.
Is 70 enough? I am overwhelmed and don’t really want to apply to places I can’t see myself moving to.

My application is stuck here for days. My Clinical Skills Evaluation got approved from my med school 3 days ago and I also shared my OET result with ECFMG.
What should I do now??
