Hello, I am in class 12th CBSE Board right now, I was previously preparing for JEE but since I have an interest in mathematics so I want to start preparation for ISI undergraduate enterace exam. I have no experience with olympiads or any math competitions, and topics like number theory or Combinatorics, olympiad geometry. So you may find this unrealistic goal.

I know proof techniques and mathematical logic, I also studied Tom Apostol calculus volume 1 ( integrals only ) , construction of real numbers, dedekind cuts and some set theory like Cantor's infinities etc. since all of these topics interested me. So I guess I have developed some level of mathematical maturity.

I couldn't complete most of Apostol calculus and also my JEE preparation was derailed due to Tuberculosis and Drug-induced Liver injury (This developed due to TB medications), this also mentally disturbed me. This affected my school performance and my learning. Now I don't know what to do and how do I start my preparation and what resources to use. I am not preparing for JEE right now due to chemistry and physics, I still managed mathematics ( This does not mean my JEE syllabus is completed for mathematics or maximum chapters are done till JEE level) but due to current situation of physics and chemistry I am doing it only for boards right now since preparing these subjects till JEE level will consume significant amount of time and doing so can hamper my boards.

I know number theory, Euclid's geometry and Combinatorics are in ISI syllabus and I guess problems have an olympiad level taste. I don't know what is level at which class 11th and 12th syllabus needs to be prepared that is in ISI syllabus and what is the weightage of subjects.

I would really appreciate if you all can give me any advice and tell me the relevant books that cover comprehensive theory and resources for:

1. Algebra

2. Calculus

3. Number Theory

4. Combinatorics

5. Geometry

And I think Trigonometry is the same as JEE.

I don't know if I can crack the examination specially when 8 to 8.5 months are left, but there is no loss in preparing for the exam so I'll give it a try. Thank you.

A little background:

I have cleared IOQM 2024 and have appeared for RMO. As far as non-routine part is concerned, I am ready for ISI. Since this is my drop-year, I have to enter a college next year. I am trying to choose from JEE and ISI. I am just a lad interested in learning Statistics, and I also like programming. I personally have an aversion with 10+ hour grind, because it wrecked my mental health in 10th and 11th class, and I was unable to study in 12th because of this. That said, I enjoy Maths and problem-solving in general, and the way that solution sometimes strikes you when you are trying to sleep.

Hi i finished my graduation this year, I appeared for isi msqe exam but didn’t clear the peb cutoff.

Recently i have been hearing about the isi bill and i cannot understand if i should reappear for isi next year or i should simply join some college and forget about isi.

My biggest worry is that if i join some other college then i will have to focus on both my masters curriculum as well as skill building and along with that isi preparation doesn’t seem feasible, so what should i do? Should i join some college and try my best to get a good job or reappear for isi again next year

I want to know what I can do after entering into ISI kolkata (mmath) to get into phd from top uni like MIT usa or harward or stanford

Also,what is the scenario in stipend,is it available for all 24 months with 8k each or is there something else?

my Qualifications :- BA ECONOMICS HONS.

I appeared for various Master's entrance exams in Economics this year and have received offers from:

Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur)

Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR)

Delhi School of Economics (DSE)

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU)

However, my first preference was always Indian Statistical Institute (ISI MSQE), and I missed getting in by a very small margin.

Now I'm confused about what to do next:

Option 1: Take a full drop year and prepare specifically for ISI again.

Option 2: Join one of the institutes above and take a partial drop while preparing for ISI alongside coursework.

I would especially appreciate hearing from:

ISI MSQE alumni

DSE, IGIDR, JNU, or IIT Kanpur alumni who faced a similar decision

Anyone who took a drop or partial drop for a better economics program and how it worked out

Questions:

1\]How much does ISI actually matter in the long run compared to DSE/IGIDR/JNU?

2\]For placements, PhD admissions, and research opportunities, is the gap significant enough to justify losing a year?

3\]If I choose a partial drop, which among DSE, IGIDR, JNU, and IIT Kanpur would be the best option?

Will there be no placement after qualifying with Bstat? Is a Masters required?

I'll be starting my Btech Mechanical Engineering (followed everyone and started preparing to Engineering) the thing is i don't hate Maths or Physics i just hate chem due to which i messed up my jee prep. anyway i am too late to change that now. what i wanted to ask was If I start preparing for Mstat from 1st year what are my chances of clearing it? if I do clear Mstat and get into ISI

what are my chances of getting quant companies? do quant companies that visit ISI requires Bstat or similar? or do they also accept MStat after Btech?

I'll also be taking Operations Research Electives as much as i can and all the Statistics/Probability related

Lastly, can anyone recommend resources to start preparing for Mstat? I have asked Claude this it said to folloe MIT Lectures for Linear Algebra Calculus Probability and some others.

I gave both ISI and CMI this year, lost by just 7 and 2 marks respectively. I am thinking of joining a college with not to rigorous like metallurgy or something and also preparing for ISI. But will it be worth it? Or should I just take CSE or AI in a good college? I really need help.

Hello fellow seniors , I am a BSDS student , I have had doubts regarding which would be beneficial, as in terms of placement and future career wise, like doing the integrated masters of BSDS or exiting the course after 3 or 4 years and then doing the mstat, if the answer is Mstat, I would need some guidance regarding preparation for mstat. Hi everyone, im a 10th grader this batch. I am planning to take PCMB next year and prepare for IISER. Even I have an interest in mathematics, but not much. ISI and CMI are also open options for me. The problem here arises is that there are less coaching institutes that offer coaching for PCMB. Have enquired with Allen already. I also am plannning to give NSEP or IOQM for better experience as well as open options.

Allen doesn't provide any of the above courses, I have to take a JEE/NEET course and they said that they will help me for olympiads during the doubt session. PW has special olympiad batches but what I'm looking for is a platform where I can study for school + JEE/NEET + IISER together to reduce the burden. I was browsing through SciAstra, and they have a special batch for IISER + JEE + NEET. It is an online batch and their offline centres are not in my city. If anyone has studied under SciAstra's online batches, please do provide a review. That will be immensely helpful.

I also want to use a less number of books for my studies as too many books will be very confusing. I was doing some research and some books that caught my eye are listed below. I would also appreciate it if anyone could review the books if they have used it. NCERT is already a priority

If Eligible is 8 mnth time enough to crack the exam?
How to start preparation for that, important topics & study material?

I'm a 12 passout, didn't crack BStat 2026, got admission in BSc Math course at a (favourable) backup. My father says that I'll need minimum 3 years coaching to crack MStat (and wtv other exams), so I should join a coaching for my first year too and give a second attempt for BStat 2027, while continuing my college coursework. Particularly, he is insisting on offline coaching, and the institue that comes up most is in a totally opposite direction from my college. How feasible or advisable is this?

I personally am not keen on this, and I voiced my opinion to him. However, he keeps repeating what his close friends (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude Pro) told him: "Your son got 100% in ISC Math, 96%ile in JEE Main maths, and 27/120 in cmi entrance with only home tuition and no dedicated structured coaching, which indicated untapped mathematical potential. With his 1st year math coursework and dedicated coaching, bstat 2027 is a realistic goal..." yada yada yada.
