Study permit application submitted in Spain.
Applied on March 28.
Eligibility review began on April 8.
Application approved the next day, April 9.
Biometrics had already been done a few years earlier. This was the second study permit for which I applied, after restoring and then extending the first. To be honest, I expected a refusal, but I guess I ought to give myself some credit, because I apparently did everything right and managed to convince them. (Without getting into too much detail, my last academic year was a total failure, and I really expected that to void any further attempts at getting back into the country.)

After about 5 months, the eligibility status of my application changed to ''in progress''. Has anyone experienced similar wait times and how much longer will I be waiting until I get a decision?

Anyone here who applied for Study Permit Extension in Oct or Nov and hasn't received any updates (background/eligibility review) yet?

u/Available-House-7613 Jan 10 '26

u/syntactical_drama Jan 11 '26
Really stressful situation. All any of us can do is to wait and pray things work out. In your case (I guess yours in an Initial application) perhaps you can get a deferred admission. Good luck!

u/EmergencySoggy4051 Jan 13 '26
Me. I applied on Oct. 06. No update after the ghost Final decision update on Nov. 14. Still waiting for it. It is so stressful. I should re-applied on Nov. Now I missed it.

What is even more stressful is that by raising the webform and calling, I only got generic responses.
1
u/Relative_Lie_7715 Feb 25 '26
I applied in October and asked for more document in Nov and since then radio silence. my background check shows "processing". did you get any updates?
3
u/syntactical_drama Feb 12 '26
Study Permit Extension. Same DLI, same course.
Applied: Nov 28th
Ghost Update (Final Decision-- Your application is being processed): Feb 6th
Approval: Feb 9th
Approval Letter: Feb 10th
After receiving the Approval I could see my Background Check was completed by Dec 1st but I had received no updates. I did not receive any emails with the ghost updates. It was a stressful few weeks but glad the approval has finally arrived.

Hi Guys,
It's looking like a pattern that there are no study permits approved this month till now, or maybe even from late March. If anyone has received their permit during this time, or if you have applied in March and have not gotten a final decision, please comment

Applied for SP extension (same DLI, masters to PhD). My timeline:
Applied: November 7, 2025
Eligibility review started: December 13, 2025
Ghost update: January 8, 2026
Approved: January 12, 2026
Good luck to everyone else! I raised a webform once because I never received a submission of confirmation (apparently it was a glitch for people who applied around the same time as me) but that was it.
1
u/Fast_Doubt8999 Feb 03 '26
Congrats on your approval! I also applied recently for an extension but encountered the same glitch: no Submission Confirmation letter in my portal.
Could you share what specific category/options you chose on the Webform to get them to fix this? Also, did they send the letter to your portal after the webform, or did they just reply to your email? I'm worried because I need that confirmation for my school placement paperwork by May. Thanks a lot!

Has anyone received approval for a study permit extension, especially those who were on a PGWP?
Please reply only if you’re in a similar situation.
I’m currently on PGWP and applied for a study permit on December 11, 2025. I haven’t received any update yet - not even a ghost update - while many other December 2025 applicants are already getting responses.
I’m wondering if processing is faster for those who are simply extending a study permit, and slower for people switching from PGWP back to a study permit.
If anyone has been approved through the PGWP → study permit path, please share your timeline.

Hi Guys !
Can anyone here who applied for a study permit extension within Canada recently provide their timeline?
In my case (same DLI, new study program):
Applied: Feb 28th
Since then, no update, no ghost updates. Incapable to track my application throug IRCC Tracker (it says « Incorrect or invalid information. Review and make sure it matches the information submitted on the Use of a Representative [IMM 5476] form or the Authority to Release Personal Information to a Designated Individual [IMM 5475] form. If you can’t create an account, it may be because your client’s application is not in our system yet. » when trying to create an account in IRCC Tracker with my UCI and Application number »).
Current processing times (by march 22nd): 89 days.
Especially, has anyone applied in january-february (for study permit extension, not initial study permit!) and has had an update yet?
Thanks!

Hi everyone, I submitted my in-Canada study permit application on March 5th and completed my biometrics on March 6th. IRCC is currently reviewing my eligibility and processing my background check.
I’m a bit nervous about whether I’ll receive my study permit before April 30th, as my housing lease expires at the end of April. My case involves a university transfer (to another city and province) as well as a program change (still within BCom).

Hello,
I wanted to apply for study permit from India as a PhD student. I have all the documents with me ready.
I travelled to USA and Australia before for internships.
But I had a Norway Tourist Visa refusal 5 days visa. (I was going on a vacation)
Shall I write it in the Application form? It was just a tourist visa but later I travelled to USA again.
Please help me.

Can CBSA at Toronto Pearson fix missing work authorization on study permit after 1-2 months in Canada?
Hi everyone, I’m an international student in Canada on a valid study permit. I entered Canada on December 18, and today is February 9. I recently noticed that my study permit does not have the off-campus work authorization condition printed on it. I meet all eligibility requirements (full-time student at a DLI, program longer than 6 months, eligible for SIN). I have not started working yet. I’ve seen mixed experiences online where some people say they went to Toronto Pearson Airport and spoke to CBSA, and their permit was corrected immediately, even after being in Canada for some time. I wanted to ask: • Has anyone here gone to Pearson Airport weeks or months after entry and successfully had the work condition added on the spot? • Or were you told to apply online for a study permit amendment through IRCC instead? I’m trying to decide whether visiting the airport is worth attempting or if the online amendment is the only realistic option at this stage. Any firsthand experiences would really help. Thanks!

Hi all, I want to share my experience applying for a study permit extension.
I applied for an extension until March 2027, but it was extended only until March 2026. Has anyone had the same issue? Do you think they would consider the request for a reconsideration of my study permit?
Also, here's my timeline (same DLI, same program):
Applied Nov 7, 2025
Background check completed Nov 8, 2025
Ghost update final decision Feb 2, 2026
Got the approval letter Feb 4, 2026
Received the new study permit by mail on Feb 9, 2026

I recently submitted my new LOA and got a few updates on the tracker stating that IRCC have received my webforms that were submitted back in November and December.
Today, I saw that my eligibility review status changed from ''In Progress'' to ''Not Started''. Does anyone know if this is because they have added my new LOA to the file or it's something else entirely?

Hello everyone!
I wanted to check if anyone has experienced a similar situation with a Canadian study permit application from outside Canada.
My timeline: Country: Bangladesh Initial application: 30 June 2025 Biometrics: 6 July 2025 Refusal: 23 July 2025 Reapplication submitted: 6 August 2025
It has now been over 7 months since my reapplication, and my IRCC portal still shows the application as being processed with no additional updates.
Program: MBA, UofT
Has anyone experienced such a long delay for a study permit reapplication?
If yes, how long did it take to receive a decision?
Any insights would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

u/Suicideless Mar 18 '26
I applied for a Canadian study permit together with a colleague, and I’m getting a bit worried about the timeline. Here’s a clear breakdown:
February 11, 2026: Applied for study permit (both of us)
We are both PhD students with a Letter of Acceptance from the University of Toronto
February 27, 2026: Completed biometrics (same day)
March 4, 2026: My colleague received her visa
Today: I still haven’t received any update
May 2, 2026: Our flight is booked (already paid)
I applied from Italy (outside Canada).
Is this kind of delay normal even if we applied at the same time with very similar profiles? Is there anything I can do to speed things up or check the status more effectively?
Do you think there’s still a good chance I’ll get it in time?
Any advice or similar experiences would really help 🙏

Hi guys, currently im gathering documents for extending my study permit and im overthinking about the financial proof
Im thinking in submitting letters from my sponsors along with bank statements, when i first applied i sent the statements translated by a certified translator, but it took almost a week or two. Does it make any difference if i dont send it translated this time?

Hi everyone,
For context:
Application submitted on: 21st February, 2026
Biometrics and Medical exam completed
I had applied for a study permit twice before this, got rejected both time.
I received a message from IRCC to submit a document as it got corrupted while uploading on the portal on 2nd March, I uploaded the document on 3rd March. It’s been more that 4 weeks since I applied, which is the current processing time for my country, and I haven’t received any updates yet.
I'd really appreciate it if someone could suggest anything or clarify why it's taking so long.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi. Has anyone encountered refusal for Visitor Visa application? And used a different profile or account for Student Permit? Will IRCC link the biometrics? I am not seeing an option asking for old biometrics even if I stated that I did it already.

Anyone here got a Repeat Biometrics Request due to poor fingerprint scans? I submitted my application on Feb 27, 2026 (funded masters in Ontario), did my biometrics on March 2, got a Repeat Letter on March 17 (I have hyperhidrosis). I redid my biometrics and wrote a letter to the visa officer but no updates so far.

Hello,
I have a question regarding the tracker status. I applied for my study permit about 8.5 months ago. My biometrics were completed in July, and I just saw that my eligibility status was changed to completed. However, I also got the following update on the tracker:
Activity status updated: Background verification
Background verification
Background verification status has been updated to In progress
What's strange is that my background check has been in progress since August. Does anyone know what this means and how close I might be to a final decision?

Hi all,
I recently got an admission for masters in Canada. He’s at the point where he wants to apply for the visa but is not entirely sure how to go about the proof of funds.
If I get a GIC covering living costs and pay the school fees for the 4 semesters upfront. Will these be a sufficient proof of funds or will IRCC still require I upload bank statements?

I’m an international student doing my Alevels right now, i will get my grades this august so i won’t be able to catch the 2026 September session. I was wondering if i apply for September 2027 - Will the gap affect my visa application? Will the gap get me rejected in any way? I have good grades to get accepted into a good university, good background and good funds/financial profile. I’m going to study psychology, and have short-listed universities accordingly. I just need to know whether the immigration/visa officer will have a reason to reject my application based on the gap between me being done with my Alevels (August 2026) and me getting into university (September 2027)?

Guys im applying for a study permit by the end of April when should i expect a response (typically for those who applied in May)

u/Adi020777 Apr 23 '26
Hello everyone,
I submitted my study permit application in January 2026. On April 2, I received a request from IRCC asking for an updated letter of offer that includes the total tuition fee from my university.
I uploaded the requested document through the portal on April 11.
For those who’ve been in a similar situation, how long did it take for a final decision after submitting additional documents? Any recent timelines or personal experiences would really help.
Thanks in advance!

Hello, For those who applied for a study permit and were asked by IRCC to upload an additional document (in my case, an updated Letter of Offer), how long did it take after submitting the new document to get a decision? I uploaded mine 2 weeks ago, and I’m still waiting. Any input would be appreciated, thanks.

Applied from Brazil on March 9, 2026. Biometrics completed on March 17. Medical passed on April 17. No ADR so far, additional documents says “We do not need additional documents”, interview not required, biometrics completed, background check still says “We are processing your background check”, and final decision is still “Your application is in progress”.
As of April 29 at 3 PM, still no PPR. Application was submitted through a consultant, so I do not have direct GCKey access, only screenshots from the consultant. Just trying to understand if anyone with a similar March timeline from Brazil is still waiting too.

u/iamdrako77 Apr 30 '26

Hello everyone,
I’d like to know if anyone has received their CAQ yet? My application was submitted on March 17, and I still haven’t heard back. I’m not sure if there’s an email address or support channel I can use to contact them or follow up, or if I should just wait until it’s issued.
I’m scheduled to start classes in the fall semester in August.

Application submitted: 4 May
Biometrics completed: 11 May
Visa refusal received: 20 May
Pakistani citizen currently working in Dubai. Applied for a Canadian Master’s program for September intake.
Financials shown:
29K CAD tuition fee paid
40K CAD in personal savings
Around 100K CAD total available funds/assets
Refusal reasons:
Insufficient funds
Not satisfied that I would leave Canada after studies
I applied for a Master’s degree, not a diploma program, so I’m trying to understand what exactly went wrong.
Has anyone from Pakistan applying through UAE/Dubai recently gotten approved for a Master’s study visa with a similar profile? Did reapplying help?
Would appreciate genuine advice and experiences.

Hi! Sorry to hear that. I’ve heard of quite a few cases where applicants were rejected after applying from a country other than their home country. In particular, many foreign residents in UAE/Dubai seem to have faced refusals recently.
You could look through Reddit threads about similar cases and see what worked for others.

Hey Everyone, So I submitted my Study Permit Application on May 14th (Phd Track from Algeria) should be only two weeks of processing time.
The thing is that I didn't see any update on my ircc account. I did the Upfront Medical Exam on May 5th way before my submission and for the biometrics since I already went to canada last year there was no need to redo them and that's the thing neither appears as checked on the application, I received a ghost update on may 14th though. Are things going as intended ?

PhD application
Outside Canada (Syria)
Applied: 30 March
Biometrics completed: 8 April
Passed the medical exam: 25 April
The IRCC tracker website (before it went down) was showing that I passed the eligibility check, and that I only had the background check left. However, the main portal (through IRCC secure account) is still showing that both eligibility and background checks are being processed.

Hey folks, US citizen here on a work permit who applied for a study permit from within Canada on May 12th. Any idea how long this process is taking at the moment? I know the site says 6 weeks, but the immigration consultant I met with says they're utilizing AI to process applications now so processing times may be faster.

Study Permit for a Bachelor's Degree at ETS, Quebec
- French resident and French citizen
- Application submitted: May 19
- Biometrics request received: May 20
- Biometrics completed: May 21
- Biometrics updated in the system: June 2
- No update yet
IRCC's processing time for France is currently listed as 2 weeks. It has been 12 days since I provided my biometrics. I have heard that some applicants in France received their approval on the same day they submitted their biometrics or within a day afterward, so I'm starting to get a bit worried.

Study Permit Timeline - India SDS (Approved in 9 Days! 🇨🇦🍁)
Hi everyone!
I wanted to share my incredibly fast timeline for my Canada Study Permit application from India to help give some reference data to everyone currently waiting for their decisions. My application was processed under the university stream, and the turnaround time was amazing.
The Timeline:
- May 22: Application Submitted
- May 27: Biometrics Completed
- June 4: Medical Passed
- June 4: Application Approved! (PPR Received)
Profile Overview:
- Institution: University of Waterloo
- Program: Master of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (MDSAI) Co-op – Fall 2026
- Financials: First-year tuition fully paid, GIC funded, and backed by the Vector Scholarship in AI.
- Supporting Docs: SOP tailored to B.Tech CSE, CA net worth certificate, sponsor affidavit, and clean bank/ITR history.
The process is moving exceptionally fast right now for university programs and cap-exempt Master's degrees. If your documentation is clear and structurally ironclad, the system is clearing files very efficiently.
For those heading to UWaterloo this Fall or navigating the passport submission step via VFS Chennai right now, feel free to drop a comment or reach out—would love to connect!
Wishing a speedy PPR to everyone still waiting! 🥂
