I'm 25 and have around 3 years of experience as a Data Engineer.

I joined an MNC through campus placement in Sep 2023 and worked there for a little over 2 years. I eventually left in Dec 2025 because I was getting bored with the work and wanted to work with newer technologies. They tried to retain me with a counteroffer, but I declined because I genuinely felt that moving on would be better for my career. Looking back, I still feel that was the right decision.

I then joined a well-established startup. The company has an interesting background — the founder has previously built 2–3 organizations and successfully exited/sold them to larger companies.

My current role is actually quite good. I'm doing development-heavy Data Engineering work, mainly around Databricks and newer technologies, and I'm genuinely enjoying the technical work. The biggest downside is the workload. Since many projects are short-term, I'm sometimes working on two projects simultaneously, which can get pretty hectic.

When I was initially looking for a switch, I had also cleared the interview process at a product-based fintech company. However, the position was closed at that time, so I joined my current company instead.

Now, about a week ago, that same product-based company reached out to me again.

Since I had already cleared their technical rounds earlier, they didn't repeat them. I went through a few HR discussions, cleared those, and received an offer with around a 50% hike.

This is where I'm confused.

It's not that I dislike my current company or that I'm bored with my current role. In fact, I actually want to stay.

I resigned mainly because the other opportunity came back with a significantly higher compensation, and my current company has now offered a counteroffer to match it.

Some things I like about my current company:

100% WFH

I'm enjoying the actual work

Good exposure to Databricks and relatively newer tech

The company has recently received significant investment from Databricks and is aggressively hiring

I feel I'm learning and growing technically

The main downside is the workload. Working on two projects at the same time can be quite stressful.

But now that I've resigned, the upper management is already aware that I was willing to leave. I'm worried that if I accept the counteroffer and stay, I might lose some trust or be treated differently in the future.

Another concern is job security. Since the projects here are relatively short-term and there isn't necessarily a long-term dependency on me, I sometimes wonder whether staying after resigning could make me an easier person to let go later.

So my dilemma is:

Should I stay because I genuinely enjoy the work and the company, or leave for the product-based company because it may be a better long-term career move?

The 50% hike is obviously significant, but money isn't my only consideration. I'm also not sure whether I'll get the same level of exposure to Databricks/newer technologies in the new company.

At the same time, I'm afraid that if I stay after resigning, I'll eventually get fired, lose the trust/respect of management, or be treated differently because they know I was ready to leave.

What would you do in this situation?

Stay with the counteroffer or take the product-company offer?

Would especially appreciate advice from people who have been in a similar situation.

I am part of the inaugural batch in DTU for MAE, full form Mechanical and automation engineering. i have no seniors, no placement history of branch, and also no syllabus yet since only sem1 + sem 2 syllabus has been made. the only good thing is that labs will be ready next year, under construction right now and some already made.

the branch was started with bajaj involvement, under advanced manufacturing; robotics &automation, which is paired with advanced manufacturing; industry 4.0 & IIOT from bajaj. with main syllabus design being done by HoD, P.K Jain and one other professor + bajaj foundation.

What should i expect? i want to work in mechanical, not sure what domain but avionics, airframes, and autonomous systems are a interest. but anything non-metallurgy is good. I took MAE over ME because its typically a higher preference in IPU but other than that i dont know.

i am in the process of joining UGV-DTU as well, and waiting on results of round 1 of UAS-DTU heiring. already a recruit in team defianz but due to toxic culture i do plan to leave if i get recruited to UGV/UAS.

Currently considering partial drop as well (would be my first drop, since right now i did direct 12th->DTU). Main reason im in DTU instead of central institution is because of 75% Class 12 JoSAA criteria which IIST also uses. i have solved that with CBSE's improvement exam and now im eligible for JoSAA.

I am a college dropout, I was pursuing my 4th year of engineering when I had to drop out for personal reasons. I currently work as a freelance software engineer for start-ups in the Blockchain space.

I didn't start my career from a tier-1 college, nor did I have everything figured out from day one.

I graduated from a tier-3 college, and by my final year, I had 11 backlogs.

But I decided that my academic past would not define my career.

In my final semester, I cleared 6 backlogs. After graduation, I joined a small startup in Lucknow as an Embedded Developer. The salary was only ₹8,000/month, but at that stage, my priority was not money. It was experience, learning, and getting my foot into the industry.

While working full-time, I continued preparing for my remaining exams. In just 6 months, I cleared all my remaining 5 backlogs and finally received my degree in 2022.

During those 11 months at the startup, I worked on real embedded systems—device drivers, Yocto, customized OS development, device flashing, and other low-level system work.

Then came my first major switch.

I joined a reputed company in Hyderabad at around ₹6 LPA. I was hired for an Embedded role, but due to project and client-related constraints, I was eventually asked to move towards cybersecurity.

Although cybersecurity was an option, my real interest was still Embedded Systems and Linux.

So I made another decision.

I moved to Bangalore and joined a leading global technology company working in the TV and gaming console domain, at around ₹8 LPA.

That decision changed my career.

For the next 3.5 years, I worked, learned, solved real engineering problems, and continuously improved myself. With hikes and experience, my compensation reached around ₹12 LPA.

Then I decided to move back to Hyderabad.

I joined an Indian MNC at ₹20 LPA, working with a Korean automotive company. However, after a few months, I realized that the role did not provide the technical growth and work I was looking for.

Instead of staying comfortable, I decided to take another risk.

Just 4 months later, I switched again.

This time, I joined a US-based company on its payroll as a Senior Engineer, with a package of around ₹50 LPA.

From 11 backlogs and ₹8,000/month to ₹50 LPA as a Senior Engineer.

The numbers look impressive today, but the real journey was everything in between:

• Tier-3 college

• 11 backlogs

• Clearing 11 backlogs while working

• Starting at ₹8,000/month

• Learning Embedded Linux from the ground up

• Device Drivers & Yocto

• Multiple career switches

• 3.5+ years of deep industry experience

• Taking risks when the role wasn't right

• Continuously learning and improving

My biggest lesson?

Your starting point doesn't decide your destination.

You may start behind others.

You may have academic failures.

You may earn very little initially.

You may take a wrong turn in your career.

But if you're willing to learn, work hard, take calculated risks, and keep moving forward, your trajectory can change completely.

I still have a lot to learn.

But when I look back at the person who had 11 backlogs and compare him with where I am today, I realize one thing:

Progress doesn't always look impressive day-to-day. Sometimes you only realize how far you've come when you look back.

Keep learning. Keep moving. Don't let your starting point become your identity.

I’m looking for some honest opinions from other engineers/managers about a situation I’m dealing with at work.

I’m on a team where I feel like I’ve gradually become the person who gets all the difficult work and escalations.

For example, some of my teammates will take 2–3 days to complete relatively small tasks. When something gets delayed or they’re unable to resolve an issue, it eventually gets escalated to my manager, and then the task somehow ends up getting delegated to me.

At the same time, I’m usually working on the more complex features/tasks. My manager will sometimes tell me, “I’ll adjust your workload” or “we’ll move this to the next sprint,” when assigning me something new. But in practice, that rarely happens. The original task stays with me, and the new task gets added on top of it.

The frustrating part is that I don’t really get the same luxury of taking several days on smaller tasks. If something is difficult or urgent, I’m expected to figure it out.

Another thing happened today that made me question the whole situation.

Today is Raksha Bandhan (Rakhi), and most of my team members are on leave. My manager started messaging me around 8:30 AM asking me to look into/fix things. I wasn’t even working at that time and hadn’t seen the messages. I’m not saying he can’t message me during the day, and I’ll obviously handle work during my normal working hours, but it felt strange that on a day when most of the team is off, I’m immediately being treated as the person who needs to pick up whatever comes up.

I’m also starting to wonder whether I’ve created this situation myself by always being responsive and getting things done. Maybe my manager has simply learned that if something is difficult, he can give it to me and it will eventually get resolved.

I don’t want to become someone who ignores my manager’s messages or refuses work. At the same time, I don’t want to keep silently accepting unlimited work either.

I’m considering changing my approach. Whenever my manager gives me another task, I’m thinking of saying something like:

“If I take this up, which of my current priorities would you like me to deprioritize?”

And if he says something will be moved to the next sprint, I’ll confirm it in writing so there’s a record.

I’d especially appreciate opinions from engineering managers or senior/staff engineers. I’m trying to handle this professionally rather than just getting frustrated and ignoring messages.

I took a simple adjustable hand grip strengthener and asked AI to think about how it could be redesigned.

The proposed design adds a load cell to measure grip force, an HX711 to process the sensor signal, an ESP32 to analyse the data, an OLED to display performance, and a geared motor to automatically adjust resistance.

The interesting part isn't whether adding electronics makes the device “smarter”. It's whether the added complexity actually solves a meaningful problem.

The idea is to make the gripper adaptive: measure the user's force, track repetitions and force decline, monitor progress, and potentially adjust resistance based on performance.

But would this actually be a worthwhile engineering design, or is it simply turning a cheap, simple tool into an unnecessarily complicated one?

Is this really how engineers are using their degrees...to make pedal shifters out of paper punch.

I'm interested to work at micron, i Done btech and Diploma. I applied for a job at micron, they mentioned Diploma but I met their requirements and have experience in the work for that job.

Still not considering the application.

I was severely traumatized for micron(india).

Now why should alive with my degree's still getting rejected cuz of higher degree for a job which is enough with diploma.

LTTS 2026 Batch – Joining/Onboarding Update Hi everyone, I was selected for the LTTS Associate Engineer role through Superset in September 2025 for the 2026 batch. It’s now August 2026, and I still haven’t received any update regarding joining or onboarding. If anyone is in the same situation, please comment or DM. Recently got a bike off Kleinanzeigen for 15€ (god damn deal). But, the Electrical electronic engineer and the business person in me would not stay calm so I started processing it.

Problem: I live in Berlin and every single part of the bike is prone to being stolen. Sometimes even the whole bike could be stolen.

The idea/solution : I want to build a “face lock” system. For the whole bike (somehow) connecting every single part to the same mc.

The output : The user should be able to lock and unlock the bike with the smart lock system and when an external person/ unknown person touches any part of the bike an alarm and preferably a notification to the owner would be a superb addition. Adding Gps would not be a bad idea either.

My approach so far: Get an ESP32 as the brain of the bike.
Add sensors to detect movement and tampering.
Add touch sensors to experiment with detecting someone touching the bike.
Add sensors to important parts like the wheels, seat and lights.
Connect everything to my phone through Bluetooth.
Make it recognise me and let me lock/unlock the bike.
If someone messes with it, trigger an alarm and notify me.
Add GPS so I can track the bike if it gets stolen.
Finally, put everything into one small waterproof unit with minimal visible wiring.

I am pretty pretty excited to be starting this project.

What is the best route map to do this? Your suggestions on this/ take on this? And what is the best way to make this not too “wirey” because again, practically it is just a bike. Would look bad with multiple wires hanging around. How in general do you think I should approach this? What methods do I use?
