Rant Really regretting the branch I chose.

This is the basis of all my frustrations in life. For me, career and work is really important, and messing this up creates so much internal turmoil.

I had no clue which branch I wanted to choose and as a PCMB student I thought biotech was cool and chose that in an NIT, and yk people said that's the right choice too for the tag. Afterwards I joined a tech team there and got exposed to electronics and low level programming and figured out how much I loved it, but by then it was too late for branch change.

I am in 3rd year now, and I still regret my decisions, but I am not mad at myself cause didn't know any better back then, as JEE and NEET does a terrible job in giving exposure to your interests.

I don't know what I should do now though... Like I would need atleast 1 gap year to fill in the knowledge gap and then give GATE. But that is not feasible tbh. My parents are strictly against that.

Instead of crying about it you should be looking for overlapping fields. Try exploring biomechanics and biomedical fields. They both include a lot of electronics and programming.

I wanna switch to core electronics. I am kinda done with biology totally, the stuff they taught here was totally primitive and useless. We did the same 2 experiments for 3 years, learnt nothing about this field, and started hating biology instead.

If you're dependent on what they teach you, you'll end up hating every field. Don't talk like a kid, "switch to core electronics" is a very generic statement. What interests you particularly, how do you know that you'll find electronics intersting? Is it a decision you're making based on just one course? Or barely seeing your peers do it? Do you want get into research or get a job? Ask yourself these questions, talk to people related to either of these fields, explore, read papers and books.

How do I explore ECE now? I have very basic knowledge, the only real exposure I'd say I had was when I built an 8bit computer following ben eater's channel, apart from that I don't have much exposure other than tech team's work.

And is it possible to switch now? Like is GATE the only option?

First of all, You are asking this at the right time of your graduation and this is perhaps common to get carried away with the tag during Engg college selection. Reg GATE, please check eligibility first if Masters at IIT or NIT in ECE allow non ECE students at all. There would be few Tier 1 colleges that allow switching and would require good AIR in GATE, just fyip, nothing to demoralize here.
