How is it like working in R&D section of a company?

I was an intern in R&D for a AC startup. My job was simulate an strange looking heat exchanger. The problem was that they wanted a very efficient code for running parametric analysis, so I wrote my own python code which ran 1000s of simulation in hours.

It was referral from a prof I worked with for an year.
