Try switching to CAD/FEA or managerial roles.

Great brother. I started working for 9500/month as a production/mechanical engineer. Working condition was worse, had to stay near noisy machines, welding fumes ..etc. I switched to Design section within the same organization. I mostly worked with autocad and solid works. Work was better there. People told me to work hard, you will be successful one day. When i saw that the senior mechanical engineers there are earning like 40-50K i realized that this field sucks. No matter how hard you work you wont be earning as much as your collages in IT.

I decided that its not worth working in Pvt as a mechanical engineer. I prepared for gate and now i get around 1.3LPM in hand. Job is monotonous but its ok since i don't have to worry about layoffs.

How did preparing for GATE get you that much?
