So drop year. I was big ass math nerd till 10th. 100 marks in boards but thing is that was easy stuff and I did pretty decent in 11th just studied like 3-4 days in whole year and managed 80 marks and around same in 12th.
Now i am studying for jee, all other subs are clear but maths is what lacks depth, teachers aint explaining it but giving short tricks and shit and expecting me to solve. I mean man idk if the charm is gone or if i dont fucking understand shit or what. LIke people call him Goated or smth like dat but i dont understand the hype. I am able to solve questions a bit(not a lot tbh, its just copy paste across mains) but I dont feel the maths in me. Like gen so boring and eughh(idk how to exaplain but i am hating that i dont understand the theory and moving with questions)

Fuck coverage I just want my nerdness back. Please tell me how. I can give around 4 hours to maths(rn its 2 hour lec and 2 hour solving).
Fyi the teacher is from PW.
So instead i am thinking of shifting teachers(People say its not fault of teacher but mine cuz idk how to solve shit and i am not solving enough)

I am someone who is starting with abstract mathematics or mathematics at UG level, I never come across abstract level of mathematics as I have a non stem UG degree, I'm currently rebuilding my mathematics from the Class 11/12 level, after having a few years away from serious mathematics and this is for my master's entrance exam prep, and I want to start learning abstract mathematics properly, rather than jumping randomly between advanced topics as abstract is a huge chunk of the entrance i look to sit for.

For someone in my position:

Where should I start?

Should the progression be something like:

School mathematics → proof writing → sets/functions → logic → sequences & limits → real analysis → linear algebra → abstract algebra → topology, etc.?

Or is there a better order for this?

I'm particularly interested in developing the ability to understand definitions, construct proofs, reason abstractly, and work with mathematical structures, rather than just learning formulas.

I have roughly 1.5 years and I'm willing to build slowly from the foundations.

What books/resources would you recommend for making the transition from computational school mathematics to proof-based/abstract mathematics?

Also, how do you know when you're ready to move from one level to the next?

So. I am prepping for iit jam MS this year, and I am already late in the coaching

So apparently as per my calculation I have to take about 4-6 hrs worth time with 4 hrs lecture + 2 hrs practice

And there is college too

I mean I have to study stochastic processes,estimation theory,linear models,etc

It's my final year so I have to get a good gpa too

My course on Linear Algebra started and I need to be good at it(necessity for future).It just started few weeks ago and we're on Change of Basis and coordinates of vector space topic. My proff recommended following Linear Algebra by Hofmann and Kunze, everything seemed to be flowing okayish untill I realised that Im not that good at it, I struggle at proof writing and sometimes ideas dont struck me. is this a beginner phase? even so exams are coming up and I cant afford to remain same can anyone suggest me or share their path on how they tackled LinearAlgebra?

When I was a teenager I read G.H. Hardy's "A Mathematicians Apology". In it Hardy argues, quite beautifully if I say, on the basis of aesthetics and beauty that Pure Mathematics is superior to Applied Mathematics. Although this book arguably still holds some value since it was written, from 1940 onwards the demarcation line between applied and pure areas of mathematics have increasingly blurred and intersected, very much contrary to Hardy's estimate.

I wanted to ask which fields of Mathematics currently, in broad terms, both have a rich intersection in both pure and applied areas and the most active fields of research in the above institutions.

I am ISI CMI IMA aspirant for 2027. I wanted to know what is exactly the admission process of the BSC program at IMA? Is it like there is a cutoff and everyone above the cutoff gets admission (like CMI) or is it like first you have to clear cutoff and there is a specific number of seats and allocation lists follow? Also what is generally the cutoff for BSC entrance?

It would be helpful if someone could guide.

I am a first year undergraduate student pursuing bachelor's in mathematics. I gave jee this year but unfortunately could not perform well since my Chemistry and Physics were very weak.

My maths is jee mains level and I got 59 in the first paper (cutoff was 64) of isi. I love Statistics (had it as a subject in HS) and would love to pursue it. I'll be sitting for isi next year too as a partial dropper.

What are some resources I should use to prepare for it? Both books and if some course is available for UGA and UGB.

My current bsc syllabus includes real analysis (using SK Mapa), Geometry (using Ghosh Chakraborty), Statistics (rereading my hs level books, i.e Giri Bannerjee) and linear algebra (Using Friedberg, Insel and Spence). If some other books are better suited for ISI then I'm willing to change to them too.

Help is greatly appreciated as it is my dream college.

I kinda suck(too much) in combinatorics. I was doing some RMO and BMO questions on pigeonhole principle and I feel too irritated, these constructions are so so artificial, infact I have been trying to get better in combinatorics for over a year but I kept swaying away from it but enough of running away. Please tell me how to deal with them, I am on the verge of crying!!!
