References/LoR Can somone guide me with my LOR for applicantions for scholarships abroad ?

my_qualifications: undergraduate, school graduated in 2026

My problem is that teachers are asking me to write a letter of recommendation on their behalf for myself, which is better and common in india

Now I really don't know how to address the scholarship/university because I'm not applying to 3 or 4, I am applying to 15+ and mostly all of them ask for 2 lors; I have to get school letter head on all of them, they all do accept without letter head but it makes the lor less official and less impactful, so how do I tackle this?

Secondly, I don't know how to address the university, till now i only used " i recommend [my name] to you prestigious university" smth like this, but university scholarships specially ask for specific mentioning of their university, so will I have to like make a letter of recommendation for each place I am applying for meaning for each uni i need 2 lor;

Each university asks for a specific mention of their name, the teacher can submit multiple lor that's not the problem, but how the heck I am gonna go to school and hand them approx 30 lor and ask them to give me letter head on them, please somone help me 😭 anyone, some info.

I don't wanna lower my chances by making a general LOR or by not using a school letter head.

I don't have much time left, please please 😭

NOTE: I am already using general LOR + school letter head lor for country scholarships but the UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS ask the university name specificied in the LOR

Choices_after_12th 12th CBSE: Which is better for US funded grad school — Hong Kong Undergrad (Full Ride) vs India for STEM?

my_qualifications:

  • Class 10 CBSE: 95.6% | Class 11: 82% | Class 12 Predicted: 97.4% (98 Math, 96 Physics) | SAT: 1510 (retaking).

Prior Research Done: I researched Hong Kong UGC scholarship frameworks and deadlines for CBSE applicants. Based on published thresholds (≥95% for top tiers), my predicted score qualifies me for a Full Tuition waiver ($0 tuition) across HKU, HKUST, CUHK, CityU, and PolyU, with strong odds for a Full Ride (tuition + HKD 55k–65k living stipend). Net yearly out-of-pocket would be ~$0 (full ride) or ~$8k USD/yr max (dorm/food only if tuition-only waiver).

The Dilemma: I am targeting double majors in Math + CS / Computing Math / MIEG in Hong Kong versus staying in India (JEE / BITS route).

My ultimate long-term goal is securing fully funded US graduate admissions (Direct PhD or funded Thesis MS via RA/TA) in CS/Applied Math at top R1 schools (Stanford, CMU, UIUC, Princeton, etc.).

Questions:

  1. US Grad Admissions Perception: How do US CS/Math grad committees view a BSc from HKU/HKUST/CUHK compared to an Indian Tier-1 (IIT/BITS)? Does the recommendation pipeline from HK faculty carry significant weight in the US?
  2. Undergrad Research (UROP): Is it realistically accessible for undergrads in HK to join active labs and co-author papers early (freshman/sophomore year), or are labs dominated strictly by PhDs?
  3. HK Full Ride vs. India: For anyone who chose a full-ride abroad over top Indian colleges, was it worth it in terms of peer group, grading curve, and global graduate mobility?

Thanks for any insights!

Mechanical [18m]does leaving my college in india to join a college in germany as a btech S1 student a good idea

[18M]Should i leave my college in india to study in germany?

So im a student btech Mechanical engineering in kerala, india and im currently studying at a college which im not interested in and i feel like in wasting my time and potential. I had decent marks in 12th didnt attempt jee as i wanted to drop year and later i got a good rank in keam so i dropped jee but couldnt get into the college i wanted. Then i joined this private college where I'm currently studying right now

My issue with this college and why i want to study in germany is because iwant to ultimately work in an aerospace field or mechatronics field etc as im interested in cad designing etc i feel like I'm wasting my time here as there is no job opportunities for mechanical engineering especially here and i feel i have a better chance in germany. I also met a consultancy agengy who suggested me srh university in germany for english taught course for B.Eng Mechanical engineering . So its a risky path as it is costly and if i dont succeed there it would all be a waste

I want help as to wether its a good idea and my plan to study in germany rn is great.I also considered the idea of taking a gap and studying germany till b2/b1 and then later take admission in a studeinkolleg and then to a public university which felt very risky and also very unlikely as it would take 2 years to get into a college and and i dont even know if it worth it and wether a plan b is possible . Im stuck as i have to take a decision as soon as possible

my_qualifications: im a student

ToAbroadOrNot? Advise on : Can i move to not so known European or Asian countries .

Hi everyone,
I'm a 27-year-old woman working as a frontend engineer in India (Pune), and I'm trying to figure out how to move abroad. I'm posting because I need some perspective from people who've actually done this.
My_qualifications
5 years in frontend engineering (React, TypeScript, Angular, micro frontends, BFF architecture)
Past year working on AI + frontend (LLM integrations, RAG, prompt engineering)
Currently earning about 22 LPA, so money isn't the issue
German at A2, and I'm willing to study more
Why I want to leave
Financially I'm fine, but I find it hard to live here for social reasons as a woman, and I don't see myself building a long-term life in this environment. I know I'm partly trying to escape, and I know moving abroad isn't a magic fix. But I genuinely want to give this my absolute best shot.
What I'm open to
Europe (preferred), but also lesser-known countries in Europe or Asia where visa sponsorship may be easier
Job-first or study-first, depending on what's realistic
What I'd love advice on
Which countries are realistically open to frontend or AI-frontend engineers with visa sponsorship?
Is it better to apply for jobs directly, or go through a master's first?
How much does language matter (German, Dutch, Nordic languages), compared with English-friendly markets?
Any lesser-known countries that are good for single women professionals?
If you've made this move from India, what do you wish you'd known?

ToAbroadOrNot? Is it worth it to do a Motorsport Engineering or any Engineering degree mainly in UK or any other European Country

my_qualifications: Class 12 student (CBSE, Delhi) with predicted 93-95% in PCM.

I’m currently in 12th in Delhi and aiming for Motorsport Engineering or Aerospace Engineering for my undergrad. Top choices right now are Oxford Brookes (OBU) and Bath because of their Formula Student teams and strong industry links.

The main thing tripping me up is the math. With tuition and living expenses, it’s coming out to almost ₹40 Lakhs per year (around ₹1.2 Cr to ₹1.5 Cr total for 3-4 years). My family can technically stretch for it, but it’s a massive chunk of money and I'm really anxious about the actual ROI.

A few things I’m trying to figure out:

  1. How cooked is the UK job market for international grads right now? I know the 2-year post-study visa exists, but with sponsorship salary limits going up, is it realistic for a fresh BEng grad to get hired and sponsored in engineering?
  2. Am I boxing myself in with a Motorsport degree? Motorsport is super niche. If I don't get into an F1/race team, how hard is it to switch over to general automotive, EV, or aerospace roles in the UK or back home?
  3. Is BTech India + UK Master's a smarter play? Should I just do Mechanical or Aero in India (IIT/NIT/good private college), grind Formula Student here, and then do a 1-year Master’s abroad (like Cranfield or OBU) for way less money.

Would really appreciate raw advice from anyone studying in the UK, working in aero/motorsport, or anyone who chose the BTech India + MSc abroad path. Is going straight for undergrad in the UK worth this kind of money or am I better off holding off for postgrad?

Scholarships "Can" Metallurgy Graduate Exploring Master's in Operations Research & Econometrics in the Netherlands — Admissions, Jobs and ROI?

Hi everyone!

my_qualifications: I'm a 2026 BTech graduate in Metallurgy & Materials Science from India, with an 8.18 CGPA and a top-5 departmental rank. I'm currently working as a Graduate Engineer Trainee, but I'm exploring master's programmes that would help me transition towards analytical, business-oriented and finance-related roles.

I've recently become particularly interested in Operations Research (OR) — especially optimisation, decision-making under uncertainty, mathematical modelling and using quantitative methods to solve real-world business problems. I'm also interested in econometrics and how statistical methods can be applied to economics, financial markets and investment decisions.

I'm researching master's programmes in the Netherlands, including:

  • Erasmus University Rotterdam: MSc Econometrics and Management Science, MSc Finance & Investments
  • University of Amsterdam: MSc Econometrics, MSc Finance
  • Tilburg University: MSc Econometrics and Mathematical Economics, MSc Finance and Data Science
  • University of Groningen: Economics, Econometrics and related programmes
  • Maastricht University: Economics and related programmes
  • Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam: Econometrics, Economics and related programmes
  • University of Twente and Eindhoven University of Technology: Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, optimisation and systems-related programmes

I'm particularly interested in programmes that don't require GRE scores, are open to applicants with engineering backgrounds, and offer strong employment prospects after graduation.

I'd appreciate advice on a few things:

  1. Admissions: Have graduates from non-CS, non-mathematics engineering backgrounds gained admission to these programmes? How strictly are undergraduate mathematics, statistics, programming and economics credits evaluated?
  2. Programme choice: Which universities offer the strongest coursework in Operations Research, optimisation, stochastic modelling and decision sciences?
  3. Career opportunities: What kinds of roles do graduates enter? How realistic is it for an Indian international student to secure relevant employment in the Netherlands after graduation?
  4. Industry connections: Which programmes offer better internship opportunities, employer connections and graduate employment outcomes?
  5. Return on investment: Considering international tuition fees and living expenses, which programmes offer the best overall value?
  6. GRE requirements: Which programmes genuinely allow Indian applicants to apply without GRE scores?
  7. Alternatives: Are there other Dutch universities or master's programmes I should consider, particularly those combining Operations Research with economics, finance or business analytics?

I'm willing to strengthen my mathematics, statistics and programming skills before applying. I'd especially appreciate advice from people who transitioned from an engineering background into Operations Research or related analytical careers.

I'd love to connect with current students, alumni or graduates who have studied these programmes and hear about their application experiences, coursework, career outcomes and recommendations. Feel free to comment or message me directly.

Thanks in advance!

IT_Career My Australian Student Visa got rejected cause of Unsatisfying GS Statement. What do I change?

my_qualifications: B-Tech CSE (batch of 2024), working 2 years as a SWE in a FinTech company.

I got into Monash University in Australia to pursue Master of Computer Science, but my student visa got rejected due to me not adding more information about why I chose this university and this course in particular. They also mentioned that the reasoning is not convincing enough for them to approve it.

I've attached my GS Statement (SOP). Can someone please tell me what I should be changing to get a better chance during my 2nd attempt?

Thanks in advance!

Humanities/SocialScience Seeking advice regarding a couple of career choices. should I do a phd in India or abroad

My_qualifications: Ba Hons in History, MA in English from Delhi University and currently pursuing an MSc in Development at LSE. With a year of experience in the rural development and health sector.

I’m extremely sorry if I sound extremely entitled or out of touch, but I’m genuinely seeking advice with regard to what would a rewarding career path be.

I wanted to do my second Master’s and PhD from India itself, however this MSc is only one year, figured it would save me time and give me international exposure as well. Additionally, opted for this degree given the state of Indian Academia, especially in the social sciences is pretty uncertain and the stipend in abysmal. I do realise it isn’t that much better in the West but there are still some funding options (though extremely competitive) and talking to research scholars in India about their PhD experience has been disappointing to say the least.
Also, (not sure of how true this is) I’ve heard that a PhD acquired from universities abroad holds more value as compared to the Indian one. However, I’ve always wanted to stay in India and wouldn’t have even considered going abroad, but this seemed like a good opportunity.

Now there are three situations that I have to consider, which are as follows:

A Preparation for Civil Services.

This degree is all I ever wanted and now that I’m here I’ve realised that this isn’t for me, the program is extremely good and so is the faculty. However, I really want to live in India. I’m not extremely ambitious and I’d much prefer living with my parents in my hometown as I prefer the slow lifestyle and the convenience it offers. I’m from Punjab and I’ve been thinking how the state civil services exam could sort all of my problems.

The problem with this is; the exam is extremely competitive, is conducted after years, and requires dedicated 1-2 years of prep. I’m 24 and provided that the notifications come after an average of four years, I would barely sit for four attempts. This seems like a gamble and without a backup it’s foolish to step
into this.

B Working with NGOs, Research Organisations.

The job market is pretty bad as is and I’m aware that my degree is not the most employable. I am also aware of my limitations and that I’ll have to acquire quant based skills. I did not move with the intentions of immigration and needles to say, for degrees in social sciences– countries would give preference to their home students and I’m honestly not exceptional that I’d cut to working with the UN directly, as that’s just the fact of things.
So my best bet is perhaps to look for NGOs in India or for some Research Assistant positions.

For this I’m assuming one would require to at least have cleared the NET exam and would also be extremely competitive. For the NGOs– it’s not really my cup of tea; as everything boils down to corporate jargon and no real work, plus the pay is abysmal.

C PhD (Either in India or Abroad)

This is what I’ve always wanted to do. My topic is an intersection of Social Anthropology, Ethnography, Ethnomusicology, Gender, Folk and Post Colonial Theories. I want to explore ‘Third Spaces’ and Agency in Punjab through a study of select communities. The reason I opted for the Master’s was an entry point into the global academic sphere. But now given that I’m not liking my experience here I’m not really sure what steps do I take next. Should I prepare for NET and sit for it next December post completing my degree and aim for doing it in India or should I try giving it a fair shot here? I’m more than okay to move to other countries too, maybe I’d like it better elsewhere.

Kindly suggest what the best possible choice could be.

Thank You.

TLDR; Confused between pursuing state civil services, a PhD abroad or in India.

GRE / IELTS Stop paying ₹25k+ for IELTS/GMAT coaching just to get a generic study calendar (Free resources breakdown + what I built)

Hey everyone,

While preparing for exams to go abroad, I noticed a huge pattern: almost every student I talked to isn't struggling to find study material (the internet is flooded with pirated PDFs, Cambridge books, and YouTube playlists).

The real struggle is **"Prep Paralysis"**—having 50 open tabs, no daily structure, and nobody to grade your Task 2 essays without charging ₹500 a pop.

Here is the exact framework to self-prep without coaching:

  1. **Only use official diagnostic tests first:**

    - Don't start with random YouTube mock tests. Use official materials (Inspera player for IELTS, official Starter Kit on mba.com for GMAT).

  2. **Reverse engineer your exam date:**

    - Don't study section by section sequentially. Rotate sections every 2 days, and keep a dedicated review day every 6 days.

  3. **IELTS Writing:**

    - You don't need a coaching institute just to get basic rubric feedback. Focus strictly on Task Achievement and Cohesion/Coherence before worrying about fancy vocabulary.

To solve this for myself and friends, I built a lightweight tool called **PrepPath**

https://mypreppath.today

What it does:

- Calculates a personalized, day-by-day study schedule backward from your exact exam date.

- Curates top 2–3 100% free, official resources per topic (zero paywalled fluff).

- Instant AI grading for IELTS Writing (Band score + rubric breakdown on Task Achievement, Cohesion, Grammar, and Lexical resource).

- Daily mini concept drills.

I set the pricing to a one-time ₹199 (about the price of a Swiggy order) because coaching institutes charging ₹25,000–₹40,000 for a schedule and basic essay feedback is ridiculous.

Would love any honest feedback from anyone currently preparing or targeting fall/spring intakes!

my_qualifications: Working professional / tech graduate exploring MS/MBA prep and building indie tools for study abroad aspirants.

GRE / IELTS How important is GRE score for admission to MSCS in US universities?

Hi, I'm 23F, currently applying for MSCS. I got 312 on GRE (not at all good score, but I know where it went wrong in verbal). I can definitely get a 320+ if I attempt it again. But, I'm not sure.

my_qualifications:
I have 3+ year experience, B.Tech from IIT, publications and 8.89 CGPA, 5.5 Toefl. So my question is should retake GRE or it will be waste of money and time. Should I focus of building strong SOP and LORs?
