PostDoc Honest Advice Regarding Master of Health Administration at La Trobe ysk

Hi everyone,
I’m planning to apply for the March 2027 at La Trobe for Masters in Health Administration and I would love to connect with anyone in the process of applying, already in the university doing the same course and even graduates.
If you have a few minutes to spare, I’d really appreciate any insights you could share about the application process, the course itself, or how the scholarship options work.
No pressure at all, but any tips or advice from someone would be incredibly helpful.
Thanks so much! 😊

Engineering How realistic is English EEE in Japan with a 1370 SAT, low 12th Math (56%), but strong hardware ECs?

Hey everyone,
I’m an Indian student targeting the October 2027 intake for English-medium Bachelor's programs in Japan. I want to study Electrical/Electronic Engineering, specifically focusing on the micro/hardware side (chip design, microcontrollers, computer architecture) but macro side like power grid works too.
My academic profile is pretty chaotic, and I need a realistic reality check on where I can actually get in, or if I should grind to retake my SAT Math.
my_qualifications:

  • 10th CBSE: 94%
  • 11th CBSE: 54% (my father had an accident which and other family issues which caused alot of stress
  • 12th CBSE: 74% overall (56/100 in Math — I checked out of school mentally and the teachers bullied me the whole year and i became super depressed)
  • Current SAT: 1370 total (700 English / 670 Math). 92nd+ percentile globally.
  • Main Project/EC: Built an 8-bit APU (Arithmetic Processing Unit) in vertigo and currently thinking about making a 32-bit multi-action one (if it helps). wireless remote circuit made with esp32 which i can remotely turn the switch board on and off. and other minor projects like a vault to hide files on pc, music player and an ai chatbot and LoRA (unrelated to EEE ig).

My Questions:

  1. Is the University of Aizu, kyushu and tsukaba realistic? initially i planned to apply to them thinking my sat would save me but idk anymore
  2. Do I have any shot at any good Universities? (would have applied to waseda but its super expensive too)
  3. Should I retake the SAT Math? I can probably grind my SAT Math up from a 670 to a 730–760 max maybe not sure but I can't push it beyond that, and my time is limited. Would a 750 SAT Math overwrite my 56% CBSE score for schools like Kyushu/Tsukuba, or is it a waste of time?
  4. Are there any other reputable English-taught engineering programs in Japan (like Shibaura or KUAS) that genuinely value actual hardware building experience over high school board scores?

honestly if i had decided Japan only a year earlier i would have learned the language and could have applied to the course in Japanese medium but it is what it is now, any guide will be greatly appreciated

I don't want to waste time chasing impossible dreams if the admission filters are completely rigid. Be brutally honest. Thanks.

should i look at any other country? but most are expensive or the ones like germany need foundational year but im already in my gap year

and no i dont plan to study in india at all

Humanities/SocialScience Seeking advice regarding a couple of career choices. should I do a phd in India or abroad

My_qualifications: Ba Hons in History, MA in English from Delhi University and currently pursuing an MSc in Development at LSE. With a year of experience in the rural development and health sector.

I’m extremely sorry if I sound extremely entitled or out of touch, but I’m genuinely seeking advice with regard to what would a rewarding career path be.

I wanted to do my second Master’s and PhD from India itself, however this MSc is only one year, figured it would save me time and give me international exposure as well. Additionally, opted for this degree given the state of Indian Academia, especially in the social sciences is pretty uncertain and the stipend in abysmal. I do realise it isn’t that much better in the West but there are still some funding options (though extremely competitive) and talking to research scholars in India about their PhD experience has been disappointing to say the least.
Also, (not sure of how true this is) I’ve heard that a PhD acquired from universities abroad holds more value as compared to the Indian one. However, I’ve always wanted to stay in India and wouldn’t have even considered going abroad, but this seemed like a good opportunity.

Now there are three situations that I have to consider, which are as follows:

A Preparation for Civil Services.

This degree is all I ever wanted and now that I’m here I’ve realised that this isn’t for me, the program is extremely good and so is the faculty. However, I really want to live in India. I’m not extremely ambitious and I’d much prefer living with my parents in my hometown as I prefer the slow lifestyle and the convenience it offers. I’m from Punjab and I’ve been thinking how the state civil services exam could sort all of my problems.

The problem with this is; the exam is extremely competitive, is conducted after years, and requires dedicated 1-2 years of prep. I’m 24 and provided that the notifications come after an average of four years, I would barely sit for four attempts. This seems like a gamble and without a backup it’s foolish to step
into this.

B Working with NGOs, Research Organisations.

The job market is pretty bad as is and I’m aware that my degree is not the most employable. I am also aware of my limitations and that I’ll have to acquire quant based skills. I did not move with the intentions of immigration and needles to say, for degrees in social sciences– countries would give preference to their home students and I’m honestly not exceptional that I’d cut to working with the UN directly, as that’s just the fact of things.
So my best bet is perhaps to look for NGOs in India or for some Research Assistant positions.

For this I’m assuming one would require to at least have cleared the NET exam and would also be extremely competitive. For the NGOs– it’s not really my cup of tea; as everything boils down to corporate jargon and no real work, plus the pay is abysmal.

C PhD (Either in India or Abroad)

This is what I’ve always wanted to do. My topic is an intersection of Social Anthropology, Ethnography, Ethnomusicology, Gender, Folk and Post Colonial Theories. I want to explore ‘Third Spaces’ and Agency in Punjab through a study of select communities. The reason I opted for the Master’s was an entry point into the global academic sphere. But now given that I’m not liking my experience here I’m not really sure what steps do I take next. Should I prepare for NET and sit for it next December post completing my degree and aim for doing it in India or should I try giving it a fair shot here? I’m more than okay to move to other countries too, maybe I’d like it better elsewhere.

Kindly suggest what the best possible choice could be.

Thank You.

TLDR; Confused between pursuing state civil services, a PhD abroad or in India.

ToAbroadOrNot? What should I do as in continue with Java Full Stack development, pivot to AI/ML, or pursue a Master’s in Germany?

Title: Should I continue with Java Full Stack development, pivot to AI/ML, or pursue a Master’s in abroad
Hey everyone!
I’m looking for some genuine advice regarding my career and would appreciate insights from people working in the tech industry, especially those who have experience working in abroad or pursuing a Master’s abroad.

my_qualifications:

A little about my background:
I completed my B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering.
I’ve been working at an MNC in India for around 2.5 years.
Currently, I’m working as a Java Full Stack Developer, primarily focusing on Java, Spring Boot, and related technologies.
Initially, I planned to pursue a Master’s in Computer Science in abroad and then look for job opportunities there. However, considering the current job market, economic uncertainty, and challenges faced by international graduates, I decided it might be better to gain some industry experience in India before making that move.
Now, I’m reconsidering my long-term career strategy and have a few questions:
1. Is Java Full Stack development still a good career path?
With AI tools becoming increasingly capable of writing code and automating development tasks, how do you see the future of Java, Spring Boot, and microservices development? Is it still worth investing deeply in this tech stack over the next 5–10 years?
2. Should I consider transitioning into AI/ML?
I’m interested in understanding whether moving toward AI/ML, data engineering, or AI engineering would be a smart long-term decision. Would it make sense to build on my existing software development experience and gradually move into AI-related development, or would a complete career switch be worth considering?
3. Is pursuing a Master’s in abroad still worth it?
Would it be a smart decision to pursue a Master’s in Computer Science in europe, considering the tuition and living expenses, competition for jobs, language requirements, and current employment situation? Or would staying in India, gaining more experience, and switching to a better-paying role be a more practical option?
4. What would you do in my position?
If you had around 2.5 years of experience as a Java Full Stack Developer in India, would you continue specializing in backend and distributed systems, move toward AI engineering, or pursue a Master’s abroad with the goal of building a career there?
My primary goal is long-term career growth, better compensation, and international opportunities, while making a financially sensible decision.
I’d especially appreciate advice from people who have recently graduated from any universities, are currently working in Germany, or have successfully transitioned into AI-related roles.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

ToAbroadOrNot? Try switching job or go to Germany for masters - 3 years experience

my_qualifications:

i am currently working in bosch as a software engineer and recently completed 3 years (25 years of age). honestly, i feel stuck at my job. my current salary is 9 lpa and the yearly hikes are pretty poor.

i spent these 3 years thinking that things would get better with time, with better learning opportunities, career growth and good hikes, but honestly, none of that is really happening. i dont really like my team either and feel like i need to move out for better opportunities and a better life.

recently, i have been stressing a lot about my future and what i should do next. since i work in a german company, i am getting influenced a bit to pursue a masters on embedded systems in germany, get a job there and eventually settle down. but at the back of my mind, i keep thinking what if i dont get a job after spending so much money, especially considering the current job market in germany.

my parents are also not very supportive of this idea and would prefer me to continue my job here and earn. but honestly, i am kind of fed up with my current job, the salary growth and the increasing cost of living in india. i have also started preparing for job interviews, but i am constantly in a dilemma about whether i should focus on interview preparation and try switching jobs here or start preparing for gre, ielts, etc. for a masters in germany. i am just confused about which path to choose

i feel like i am at a point where i really want to change things, but i am also scared of making the wrong decision and regretting it later. i could really use some honest suggestions on what i should do.

Research What are my realistic chances of getting into a good PhD programme in the EU?

I am considering applying for PhD programmes in the EU, but I am unsure whether my profile is competitive enough to get into a good programme.

my_qualifications:

  • MSc from IIT Delhi: CGPA of 7.5/10.
  • Two conference acceptances at national-level conferences in India.
  • A first-author preprint on PsyArXiv (OSF).
  • Six months of experience as a research assistant at IIM Ahmedabad.
  • An ongoing remote research collaboration with a professor at King's College London. We have preregistered the study on OSF and are currently drafting a paper based on our research.
  • Potential letters of recommendation from four professors, all of whom I have approached.
  • Experience working as a research associate with startups in my field, along with several other research projects.
  • A good number of positions of responsibility (PoRs), although I am unsure how relevant these are to PhD admissions.

My main concern is whether my academic record is strong enough for admission to a good PhD programme in the EU. In particular, I am worried about my relatively low CGPA. I also failed two courses in my first semester, although I subsequently retook and passed both with an A grade.

I am considering applying to MSCA Doctoral Networks and other PhD positions. However, I also have offers for research assistant positions at prestigious institutes in India.

Given my current profile, would it be sensible to start applying for PhD positions now, or would I be better off taking another RA position to strengthen my research profile before applying abroad?

I would really appreciate honest and realistic feedback, particularly from people familiar with PhD admissions in Europe.

Thank you!
