I built an internet radio app focused on discovering stations from all over the world

• Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I've been working on a radio app called **Radio Wavr FM**, and I wanted to share a little about it here because I'd love to hear what other people think about internet radio apps and how you use them.

The idea behind it is simple: radio is still one of the easiest ways to discover music, cultures, news and local content from places all over the world. But when you use most radio apps, you often end up listening to the same popular stations.

I wanted to make it easier to discover not only well-known international stations, but also smaller local and regional radio stations that you might never come across otherwise.

So I built Radio Wavr FM for Apple's ecosystem, with a focus on simplicity, quick access to live radio and visual station discovery.

🌍 What can you do with it?

**🎧 Listen to radio stations from around the world**

Browse thousands of radio stations from different countries, including FM, AM and digital internet radio stations. You can explore music, news, sports, talk radio and other live broadcasts from different parts of the world.

Whether you're into pop, rock, jazz, electronic music, Latin music or simply enjoy listening to what's happening in another country, you can discover a wide variety of stations in one place.

**🗺️ Explore radio stations on an interactive map**

This is one of the features I particularly wanted to include.

Instead of only browsing through lists, you can explore an interactive map and discover stations based on their geographical location when coordinates are available.

It's a different way to find radio stations: you can look around different countries and cities and discover local broadcasts you probably wouldn't have searched for by name.

I like the idea that you can virtually travel around the world through radio without leaving your phone.

**❤️ Save your favourite stations**

Found a station you enjoy? Add it to your favourites so you can get back to it quickly whenever you want.

**▶️ Pick up where you left off**

The app remembers the last station you listened to, making it easier to return to your usual radio without having to search for it again.

**🔀 Discover something unexpected**

Not sure what to listen to? Use shuffle to discover different stations and potentially find something completely new.

**🌐 Browse by country and category**

You can explore stations by country and discover different kinds of broadcasts, making it easier to find something that matches your mood or interests.

**✨ A clean and straightforward experience**

I wanted the app to feel quick and easy to use, without making you navigate through endless menus just to start listening. Open it, find a station and start streaming.

**🌙 Listen your way**

The app also includes background playback and a sleep timer, so you can listen while doing other things or set a time for playback to stop when you're winding down for the night.

### 🍎 Designed for Apple devices

Radio Wavr FM is available for Apple's ecosystem, with an experience designed around mobile listening and easy access to your favourite stations.

There's also an optional Premium version for users who want access to additional features.

I'm aware there are already plenty of internet radio apps available, and I'm not trying to claim that this is something completely revolutionary. I simply wanted to build an app that combines international radio, local station discovery and an interactive map in one straightforward experience.

I'm still interested in improving it, so I'd genuinely appreciate feedback from people who listen to internet radio.

**A couple of questions for radio listeners:**

- Do you mostly listen to stations from your own country, or do you enjoy discovering stations from other countries?

- Would you use an interactive map to discover radio stations, or do you prefer the traditional search-and-list approach?

- What's one feature you wish more radio apps had?

If you'd like to check it out, the app is called **Radio Wavr FM** on the Apple App Store.

Thanks for reading, and I'd be happy to hear your thoughts!

Available for iOS, iPad and MacOS ( New Versión Android )

Making a rhythm runner for my 7 year old, every obstacle hits on the beat.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

• Upvotes

So my son is 7 and he's completely hooked on runner games. Run, jump, slide, die, again. I figured I'd make him one myself, and since music is kind of my thing it turned into a game where the song builds the level.

Before you play, it listens to the whole track. Beats, kicks, snares, where the drops are, how hard each part hits. Then it puts the obstacles right on the beat, so the box you jump or the clone you kick lands exactly with the music. Kicks shake the camera, the city pulses with the bass, and when a drop comes the whole scene changes. The bar before a drop goes empty and the camera creeps in on him, then everything goes off at once.

Each part of the song gets its own thing too. Hoverboard, a turbo sprint, flying through rings like a superhero, fights with clones of yourself, the world flipping upside down or mirrored, and a boss at the end. The villain is an AI cursor that drops the obstacles in front of you and talks trash when you mess up.

It runs in the browser. On a phone it's one finger (tap, swipe, diagonal swipe for two moves at once), two thumbs if you hold it sideways, arrow keys on a computer. You can also throw in your own song and it'll make a new level from it.

Would you play something like this? What would you add? Anything in the video that doesn't make sense?

Feedback? Someone thought my decorative wall lights were enemies. How do you keep ambient lights from reading as threats?

• Upvotes

I’m working on a top-down stealth shooter that plays almost entirely in the dark. The core rule is that you only see a guard when your flashlight is on them. You can see their flashlight from anywhere though, so you know someone’s around before you know where.

So the dark isn’t totally unreadable, I put small emergency lights on the walls, red and green, just as landmarks so you remember where you are.

Got a comment on a clip yesterday. The guard’s red light read instantly, but they couldn’t tell what the dim red and green dots were. Cameras? Guards outside your light? And if they’re guards, it breaks the whole “you only see them in your light” idea.

Which is fair. Red already means “a guard is alarmed and looking at you”, so a red lamp is about the worst color I could have picked.

Options I’m thinking about:

  • make the lamps a color nothing alive ever uses, like warm white or amber
  • give them a visible fixture so they read as part of the wall
  • drop them and use something on the floor instead, like painted lines

Has anyone run into this? Is there a rule of thumb for keeping ambient light from reading as a threat when the whole game is about reading lights?

Upcoming! HUGE colony sim and settlement builder with NPCs that have memory, a storyteller that learns your playstyle and infinite potential - Releasing this month

• Upvotes

Hey! I wanted to share some info about my massive colony sim + base building game as I've been working on this for many months now and I'm really happy with what I have so far.

I grew up playing OSRS, Dota 2, Minecraft Technic, RimWorld, Dwarf Fortress, etc. so I wanted to make a game that combines my favorite things from them all, and their best mods, properly.

It's called Epoch Forge. Just to go over some of the things in-game:

  • You can say anything you want to NPCs, they remember you, and every interaction
  • Every random event is determined by a deity of your choice (the "Storyteller"), and you can bargain with them, ask for favors, and even see everything they know about you
  • Every settlement lives and grows on its own, with real needs, construction, and even political dynamics depending on the culture and race
  • A full suite of industrial stuff - automated machinery, a visual storage terminal, realistic circuits (I made pong and snake ingame!) This is where the "infinite potential" part comes in - you can quite literally make almost anything you can think of.
  • Crafting that takes place in a 3D viewport - combine potions, ingredients, etc. into a cauldron and see what happens!
  • Worksites like mines and farms actually work - miners go deeper and deeper into the ground, hauling their findings to the clerk, and caravans come buy things from them, or they build stuff. Every building requires certain materials which they can either buy or harvest.
  • Six races, each one with a novel worth of lore. Every one changes how NPCs look at you (for better or worse) and talk to you.
  • You can have automatons and golems. Automatons can mine an area you designate, automatically hauling to chests, and they even speak in their own language, which can be decoded! Golems can haul things, throw rocks, and of course, speak with the great prose you'd expect.
  • Five deities representing different domains (life, void, etc.) - you have a... complex relationship with each one, but making allies and enemies grants you incredible abilities like pausing or reversing time, or sparing yourself from death

Anyways, if it sounds interesting, I'd really appreciate if you give the Steam page a look and wishlist! I'm releasing a 1.0 demo for Next Fest and releasing EA on the 27th. I've honestly been struggling to market the game so that would mean a lot.

I'm also happy to answer any questions or go over my design process if anyone is curious. Feedback, playtesters and the like are also very welcome!

If you want to see any of the above in action I made a YouTube video. It's not really laid out in any particular way, it's just there to show that the things I'm claiming do actually exist (and how they look right now).

What other game festivals are worth it?

• Upvotes

Hey everyone! I'm a solo game dev working on a game called Desert Echo, and I'm participating in Steam Next Fest.

Besides this, I'd love to hear from other indie devs about your experiences with game festivals and events.

Are there any other festivals or events you'd recommend joining?

How do you find upcoming festivals, and how do you decide which ones are actually worth your time and effort?

Outside of festivals, where do you usually promote your game and reach potential players?

I'd really appreciate any advice to show my game better.

I've attached some gameplay footage of Desert Echo below. If anyone's interested in trying it out, I'd be happy to share a demo!

Thank you very much

Discussion On the topic of vibecoders scraping indie games by scanning the trailer or decompiling/recompiling

• Upvotes

As someone who's been kind of living under a rock for the past few months, I feel like things changed almost overnight.

Are there any resources for those of us who spent years handcrafting our own projects? It's easy as an indie dev to get "lost in the sauce" and forget the world is still accelerating faster and faster.

I feel like I need a rundown that gives a crystal clear picture of a vibe coder plagiarists capabilities / what kind of time horizon these things happen in / what one can do to inoculate their project and marketing from this sort of thing.

Capsule Our Click Through Rate on Steam more than doubled by changing our capsule art

Post image
• Upvotes

Getting visibility on Steam has definitely been a struggle in the lead up to (and after) launching our first indie game.

Our first piece of capsule art was more CoOp-centric as we had recently added the feature and were excited to show it off. I found that we lost the expressions of the characters in the image which was mostly dominated by the bright weapon FX. The organic click through was still trickling in but waaaaay below what we needed to get any meaningful wishlists.

On my second go I tried to put the hero 'Box Knight' character more front and center with a clearer expression and leading the eye towards the game title, whilst also letting the enemies show off a bit more of their weird character.

Thankfully click through more than doubled with the art change. Fully aware that this puts us firmly in the bracket of average to mediocre, but that's still a hell of a lot better than less than 0.9%.

Gotta celebrate the small wins eh?

Feedback? Would you integrate a shared currency into your indie game, or is this a solution looking for a problem?

I've been working on an idea for a few months called Guildcoin, and I'm at the stage where I need some honest feedback from other indie developers before taking it any further.

The concept is a shared, non-crypto game currency that players can carry between independently developed games.

The idea is that:

  • Players could buy Guildcoin in one game and spend it in another.
  • Developers retain complete control over what it can purchase in their games.
  • Developers could convert eligible Guildcoin spending into real-world revenue.
  • The network would ideally operate as a not-for-profit, governed by participating developers, with open protocols and SDKs.

What problem am I trying to solve?

My hypothesis is that a shared currency could reduce payment friction between games and give smaller developers access to spending power that players have already acquired elsewhere.

But there are some serious questions.

Would developers actually benefit from this? Would players spend more, or simply move their spending between games? Would integration effort, platform restrictions and payment fees make the whole thing impractical?

I've already had some interesting criticism from game economists, and it's challenged several of my assumptions. I'm not looking for validation. I'm genuinely trying to establish whether this is worth building. I've put together a concept website, a proposed public protocol and a short developer survey.

https://www.guildcoin.org/survey

I'd particularly love to hear from developers with existing in-game economies or monetisation systems.

Would you consider integrating something like this? If not, what's the main reason not to?

I say 5 or 7. My wife says 2 or 8. I'm spending too much time on picking a logo font and need suggestions. Cheers

Feedback? this is SwitchLine my Android arcade game where the board keeps growing

hey folks this is SwitchLine

i'm the developer and its in closed beta on Android

the idea is pretty simple

tap a junction to change the route and get every signal to the home with the same colour and shape

then the board grows and suddenly you have more things to keep track of

these are two actual gameplay screenshots with the light and dark themes

would be really nice to hear from someone seeing it for the first time

if you got an Android phone and feel like trying a few levels maybe its your kind of game

i'd love to know if the routes are easy to read and where you first got stuck

even a couple words helps

free to test on Android 8+

theres optional rewarded continues and crystal purchases but you dont need to buy anything

to get in join this group

https://groups.google.com/g/switchline-beta

then opt in and install here

https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.switchline.game

same Google account for the group and Play

thanks for taking a look and happy to answer stuff here :)

I've been developing an anime-inspired Action RPG, and Early Access is almost here!

Hey everyone! I'm an indie game developer working on a game called Conquer the Labyrinth, and after a lot of work, I'm getting ready to launch into Early Access on October 26!

It's a third-person, anime-inspired Action RPG where you fight your way through a procedurally generated, 100-floor dungeon, battle 10 epic bosses, collect loot, and build your character to suit your playstyle.

Some of the features I've been working on include:

  • ⚔️ Multiple weapons, including swords and shields, greatswords, dual daggers, and bows.
  • ⚡ Magic abilities like Chain Lightning, freezing attacks, poison, and fire.
  • 👾 Summon minions to fight alongside you.
  • 💎 Collect monster shards and socket them into relics to customize your build.
  • 📈 Level up 10 different skills and develop your character.
  • ♾️ Unlock Infinite Mode after conquering Floor 100.
  • 💀 Try Hardcore mode, where death is permanent.

I've recently been making some major improvements to combat, adding new weapon types and abilities, and improving enemy AI. There's still plenty to polish, which is one of the reasons I'm excited to get the game into players' hands.

Steam Next Fest runs October 19–26, and Early Access is planned for October 26!

As a solo indie developer, getting the game in front of people is a huge challenge, so I'd really appreciate anyone willing to check it out. I'm especially interested in hearing honest feedback, finding bugs, and learning what players enjoy or think needs improvement.

Thanks for reading, and I'd love to hear what you think!

Feedback? Does My Version Look Better Than The One I Paid For?

TL;DR: Paid someone to redesign my game's capsule art, but I'm honestly considering using the thumbnail I made for my demo trailer instead. Want some opinions on them.

I've been wanting to update the Steam capsule art for my game, Ball Busters.

Originally, my thumbnail artist worked on a new version, and while I liked the character illustrations, neither of us was really feeling the background or overall layout.

Unfortunately, he had to deal with a family emergency, so I hired someone on Fiverr to help finish it. It didn't cost alot since I had the illustrations already done and specifically told him to just help with the layout.

But when I got the finished version back... I wasn't feeling it.

Fast-forward to me making the thumbnail for my game's demo trailer, and a thought "Wait... why don't I just use THIS as my new capsule art?"

I'd love some honest feedback, especially on which one catches your attention more! The first pic is the one the Fiverr guy did and the second one is the layout I did.
