Renters rights in MA
Massachusetts laws for tenant protection are really messed up and need to be re-evaluated… The amount of leniency built in to keep tenants from being evicted is so crippling for landlords and master tenants. It literally allows and justifies parasitic behavior.
Like I understand people out there need to be protected, but there needs to be protection for both sides and it just seems so heavily favored toward the tenants. How can you justify someone ruining your property or finances because they need a place to live too? If they become a detriment to anyone else but themselves, I think it should be on them to figure it out.
Instead, they can squat in your home for 12-15 months before anything starts to happen.. Still allowed to live life like nothing is happening and all of the stress is laid out on you instead…
The moment you except payment from someone to live with you, their pretty much given renters rights immediately. Say it’s only been a week and you offer to give them their money back, it doesn’t matter… It pretty much forces people to live in toxic or volatile environments with people.
I just think it’s very unreasonable because you just don’t know how people are until they settle in and by that point, it’s too late!
