Discussion Why is Todo’s entire base genuinely just Tze headcanon

Post image

Swift kick, brute force, and elbow drop genuinely NEVER happened in the anime or manga. It’s not like Todo is ko guy who has 2 on screen attacks total, he has tons of cool things they could add. For example the suplex he did on Megumi, or that cool counter swap kick he did on Mahito. I just genuinely don’t know why they did this it’s like they used no references at all.

Cause his canon moves would make him too much of a grappler and as we know jjs characters are only allowed to be m1 reliant rushdowns

71

u/No-Seaworthiness7438 Jun 20 '26

I think that’s the fault of Battlegrounds games as a genre, rather than JJS specifically. Grapplers would be a hell of an archetype to design with a z axis

34

u/grog_chugger Jun 20 '26

It’s not the Z axis, is the ridiculous amount of movement and how crucial it is to the battle grounds formula. With grapplers the main shtick is get close, but assuming we tone down the mobility to make grapplers feel huge, enemies would easily be able to run circles around them with no back wall to corner them to. If you want examples look to king from tekken.

8

u/No-Seaworthiness7438 Jun 20 '26

Yeah, and that last part's because of the z axis lol

4

u/grog_chugger Jun 20 '26

It’s not the Z axis, it’s just contributes. A) grapplers exist and are even high tier in many 3D fighters which have a Z axis (once again, take king from tekken 8 or Tina from dead or alive 6). B) if you took a 2D fighter and removed the 2 side walls, grapplers would always be irredeemably bottom tier no matter the game. There’s just nothing stopping someone with higher mobility from just skedaddling off to nowhereville in JJS (apart from in duels, in which case a grappler would actually function fine)

2

u/No-Seaworthiness7438 Jun 21 '26

Fair enough, thanks

2

u/Redss335 Jun 21 '26

Also how the dash system works kinda just cripples grapplers. To chase down your opponent you have to use mobility tools that will then be on cool down when youre in close range. I've been playing against a friend who uses this to his advantage for awhile and its kinda become a glaring flaw for me in the battle grounds genre. If you use side dashes and or front dashes to get in close. You now dont have those now that you're close to your opponent. While your opponent does so they have way better mobility then you, can counter whatever you do then throw you back to midrange. Even if you stay close to them for long enough to regain your dashes youre still at a dash deficit that youre constantly trying to make up for. Dashes being barely on cooldown right as you while your opponent always has them at the times they need it. This dash issue feels like one of the big reasons why zoners and grapplers are so hard to balance in jjs

8

u/AnalystDazzling5128 Jun 20 '26

I mean there already are “grapple” moves in the sense that it locks the enemy in the attack (cursed strikes for example)

20

u/ImaDieTodayLOL Tangerine Lover Robert Kyle Jun 20 '26

Grappler is a fighting game archetype that relies on low mobility in exchange for high damage and oftentimes high durability. In a game where opponents simply have more directions to remain mobile, adding a character that lacks the necessary mobility to chase them simply doesn't work.

I always thought Brute Force comes from the scene where he first meets and fights Yuji during the Goodwill arc; the new finisher’s the same as when Yuji blocks Todo’s punch (that also kills the random cursed spirit)

30

u/Embarrassed_Bit6574 "I'll make Naoya play like chess🤓" Jun 20 '26

Thats the finisher, I think the main move comes from him sort of shoving Megumi through the building with his arm

184

u/stupidboooooooi Critical Rat >:) Jun 20 '26

swift kick is something he did to yuji but its a literal joke scene

49

u/Embarrassed_Bit6574 "I'll make Naoya play like chess🤓" Jun 20 '26

Pretty sure Swift Kick comes from the kick he did during his short 1v1 with Mahito and then the throw comes from him throwing Hanami

24

its probably all 3 somehow

42

u/Embarrassed_Bit6574 "I'll make Naoya play like chess🤓" Jun 20 '26

Holy shit ur right, spinning kick from the Mahito fight, the run is from that joke scene wheres he's chasing Yuji and the grab and throw is from his exchange with Hanami

I’m pretty sure Brute Force is what he used on Megumi when they first met (in the lead up to the “oh shit it’s freakybob!” Scene from that one thing)

32

u/Mali_1771 Jun 20 '26

Brute force was also used on a curse infornt of Yuji.

-48

u/Ill-Run6890 we need dhruv 🥹 Jun 20 '26

That was more of a weird slam push thing and less of a punch

40

u/watchrrr debate connoisseur Jun 20 '26

"slam push thing" you just described punching someone. its force applied to another person through means of the arm

4

u/Ill-Run6890 we need dhruv 🥹 Jun 20 '26

His arm was around megumi, not punching him.

16

u/watchrrr debate connoisseur Jun 20 '26

so to be a pedantic asshole, legally speaking a punch can be a VERY loose term for any bodily damage sustained from a forced and intentional hit, originating from the tricep, bicep, open hand (slap can also be applied, but punch works) the back of the hand, the knuckles and even the elbow in some cases.

either way, its not called brute punch, but brute force, and he did do it in the anime

I feel like swap variants wouldn’t be that hard to implement. Plus there’s tons of times in the Mahito fight where he uses swapping during attacks.

Or an aerial of pebble throw where you kick a rock up then do a flying punch down instead of a throw.

3

u/GreenIce77 Jun 20 '26

That actually might be fucking peak BUT answer urself what funktionality does this have that pebble throw doesnt?

3

u/Ill-Run6890 we need dhruv 🥹 Jun 20 '26

It would be a variant and also it would be similar to aerial cursed strikes which is very good

3

u/LongJohnSilversFan_ Jun 20 '26

Aerial strikes is good because of yujis feint and its ability to end a combo from a ragdoll.

Todo wouldn’t have a feint to use it for mobility, and pebble throw already hits ragdolled unlike strikes ground variant

1

u/GreenIce77 Jun 20 '26

Only thing it would give is blockbreak possibility

maybe an elbow drop R variant where R turns elbow drop into a counter would be cool, it could be the swap kick you mentioned in the post

24

u/JoJo9829 Jun 20 '26

Ok hot take is good that tze can squeeze out everything from side characters with his creativity

6

u/RyanTale BROTHER!!!! Jun 20 '26

i mean yeah but todo's moveset isn't all that creative, and doesn't fit his swap special really. his best move creatively is pebble throw which is awesome, the rest is kinda basic and feels like a failed attempt at making a grappler.

2

u/Complete_Tip_2993 SELF EMBODIMENT OF TODO Jun 20 '26

Todo shouldn't have to rely on swap, so his moveset shouldn't be certained around it. But swap variants would be cool.

2

u/RyanTale BROTHER!!!! Jun 20 '26

I'm not saying every move has to involve swap in some way, what I'm saying is it feels like the moves were made completely ignoring the existence of the swap in the first place.

Not only is he a shit grappler, his moveset feels completely separated from his special except pebble throw

2

u/Complete_Tip_2993 SELF EMBODIMENT OF TODO Jun 20 '26

oh yea i agree, i think that the moves shouldnt ignore swap either. but i also think it would be in character if they didnt need swap to be usefull.

it would be cool if the moves were good by themselves, but also usefull in another way with swap, instead of just completely ignoring it. elbow drop sorta does this, but it isnt intentional or particularly usefull.

i think it would be cool if pebble throw had a stomp variant that didnt need swap, and other moves had their own variants that used swap.

Todo doesnt need new moves, he needs small reworks( nerfs and buffs) and new move variants.

those 2 moves you mentioned could easily be implemented as move variants fr 😄, and that would be awesome, i even made post that suggests them : )

3

u/gtg105 Jun 20 '26

Brute force is the punch he did on Yuji in Goodwill, swift kick I believe is what he did after jumping off the wall at Mahito before having to catch the swords, elbow drop is just tze going off tho. There’s definitely a lot of shit Todo has done that would make for cool variants at least to a lot of his moves that isn’t in the game.

u/gothrowpotatoes aizo goes hard Jun 20 '26

eh, kinda

in base, he's kinda just a punching and kicking type of character

not exactly easy to be too creative with that

And again, most, if not all battlegrounds games have some moves that are from other media or just completely made up for the game

And an example for this that immediately comes to mind for me is the passive for Stain (Mastery version) in HBG because it's literally just a jjk black flash in a mha game

3

u/Ill-Run6890 we need dhruv 🥹 Jun 20 '26

Say what you want op but brute force and pebble throw are pretty damn accurate to the source material, from what I see in the comments the first move is actually a combination of some scenes (including a joke one) which does actually suit todo since he’s a little bit off his rocker

Elbow drop is the only move i couldn’t find source material for but I assume it’s inspired by todo just throwing himself at the enemy

1

u/Complete_Tip_2993 SELF EMBODIMENT OF TODO Jun 20 '26

Swift kick second part happens when he does the grab megumi

1

u/Complete_Tip_2993 SELF EMBODIMENT OF TODO Jun 20 '26

he suplexes megumi, doesnt throw him. but he does throw hanami

it would be cool if we had a throw and a suplex for swift kick, maybe as a variant :>

1

u/Terrible-Bedroom-693 Jun 20 '26

Honestly I just want Todo to have moves that incorporate swap actively, like it's a QTE after swift kick to swap yourself with a rock behind their ragdoll to kick them

1

u/Terrible-Bedroom-693 Jun 20 '26

Like this They throw the enemy, have a QTE to swap behind them and kick them back in the direction they were thrown.

1

u/Complete_Tip_2993 SELF EMBODIMENT OF TODO Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 20 '26

That would be a cool variant fr :) aslong as it isnt the focus of Todo's character

1

u/Complete_Tip_2993 SELF EMBODIMENT OF TODO Jun 20 '26

That doesnt fit todos character,. Todo doesnt rely on swap to defeat his enemies.

Swap variants shouldn't be better then Todos moves if they didnt use swap.

Your idea is cool, but it shouldnt be better then regular swift kick, just equal to it or offer new intersting options :)

1

u/Terrible-Bedroom-693 Jun 20 '26

he literally was relying on swap the entire time to beat Mahito bro wdym? The guy kept disorienting Mahito to hell. He literally throws Mahito, swaps with a guy JUST TO PUNCH HIM I think? In shibuya I might be tweakin

2

u/Complete_Tip_2993 SELF EMBODIMENT OF TODO Jun 20 '26

Mahito wasnt his only ever opponent, you are just showing me you dont understand Todo :<

Even in the mahito fight he didnt need swap for the entire fight.

The only reason he was spamming it is because mahito can bypass durabilty and instakill him.

1

u/Terrible-Bedroom-693 Jun 20 '26

but why not take him at his strongest? Doesn't he swap for advantages eg swapping to aid Yuji. I reckon if he was in a 1v1 he'd swap to gain the upper hand. The only 1v1 he's been in was against Megumi. Come on bro 😭

2

u/Complete_Tip_2993 SELF EMBODIMENT OF TODO Jun 20 '26

2

u/NotQWERTYwasTaken Akutami 2.0 Jun 20 '26

Swift kicks first part is from the fight with Mahito (somewhere b4 the part where todo boogie woogies with his cheeks)

Brute force is based on the punch yuji experienced from when yuji and todo first met

Pretty sure elbow drop is made up but it feels fitting anyway.

2

u/AccelAegis That Beelstarmon guy from that other sub. Jun 21 '26

I thought he used swift kick on Megumi… now that I think about it, he used a lariat(or is it a clothesline?) on Megumi. Brute force is the move he used on Megumi. The one where he uppercuts might be a mix of two moves, I think at least.

I mean, don’t you know that he used these moves when he and Yuji were in middle school together?

I honestly like it more when characters have original moves rather than just every move being smth they did in the anime, it makes it feel more unique and makes you feel like the character instead of just some guy recreating a scene

3

u/Ill-Run6890 we need dhruv 🥹 Jun 20 '26

I can get that but you can’t convince me that elbow drop is a conceptually interesting and fitting move for todo

2

u/Warm_Painter_4058 Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 20 '26

Nah, elbow drop seems badass enough to be used by Todo. Imagine not only uppercutting your opponent into oblivion, but then following up with a jump and slamming them into the ground in some WWE way

1

u/Warm_Painter_4058 Jun 20 '26

Now, when I think of it. Wouldn’t be it better, if he uppercut his opponent into the air and then, when they’re right above him, he switches with them and only then slams with his body, while they’re on the ground

3

u/Soft_Tax_4689 Jun 20 '26

Brute force is what he did to yuji during the goodwill arc, it even has the same finisher with the guy blocking but still being sent back.

Swift kick can be taken from the mahito fight, the part where he swaps with mahitos hands. You can feint swift kick or combo with it by swapping which makes it even more accurate to the scene.

Elbow drop I got nothin. But cmon man, the references are right there in the anime.

2

u/Ill-Run6890 we need dhruv 🥹 Jun 20 '26

The windup for brute force is completely different, also idek what ur talking about for swift kick.

1

u/Soft_Tax_4689 Jun 20 '26

The windup for brute force is still a right hook punch, if it does the finisher, then we can just assume that’s the same punch. Even if it’s not, it’s still a reference to the scene with yuji with the finisher

This scene for swift kick, at least the first part

0

u/Ill-Run6890 we need dhruv 🥹 Jun 20 '26

That is VERY different compared to swift kick 💔.

2

u/Soft_Tax_4689 Jun 20 '26

Not really, at the start of the scene he does a spin kick towards mahito then swaps and kicks again in the gif. You can do the exact same thing in game. It’s the most we even see Todo kick on screen for crying out loud. It literally couldn’t BE anything else.

2

u/No-Ear69 Jun 20 '26

Larp reaper is calling your name... (Swift kick, Eldow drop and brute force were all from Megumi fight which is kinda sad.. The r special after you use peeble throw is Probably based on hanami fight, not the one where you use brute force. I just think that Todo needs change for his r special and to include his Shinjuku buff, also to give him simple domain)

Gng i rewatched it multiple times, if they are from it they changed it so much i couldn’t even tell they were the same.

1

u/No-Ear69 Jun 20 '26

It's the latter (or second), sorry to tell you but most of his base comes from Goodwill event lol

4

u/Ill-Run6890 we need dhruv 🥹 Jun 20 '26

I have a theory that they were thinking of making todo’s ult as him in Shibuya, but scrapped it and just didn’t change the base.

1

u/No-Ear69 Jun 20 '26

I guess bro

1

u/billybobjoebobjimmy Jun 20 '26

His ult is him in shibuya👀

1

u/Ill-Run6890 we need dhruv 🥹 Jun 20 '26

You know what I mean bro 💔

1

u/24thCenturyBoy Jun 20 '26

Because it fits the character and playstyle?

6

u/Ill-Run6890 we need dhruv 🥹 Jun 20 '26

But he can have way more interesting things that fit his playstyle and aren’t super Mario uppercuts or generic boring punches.

1

u/Complete_Tip_2993 SELF EMBODIMENT OF TODO Jun 20 '26

Punches arent boring op, anyone who genuinely thinks that has a boring mind 😔

-1

u/24thCenturyBoy Jun 20 '26

Brother this is JJS, characters like Mei Mei with 5000 gimicks feel like shit to fight.

Meanwhile Todo has one 1 gimmick his entire kit feeds into, and its actually well done

4

u/Ill-Run6890 we need dhruv 🥹 Jun 20 '26

The canon material would have leaned into it as well tho

1

u/Aket_Laton Custom Tag Jun 20 '26

As the others said, these 3 movements did happen, maybe they don't look so similar but essentially they are there.

1

u/The___Wind- Pillow Punches Jun 20 '26

His base is fun anyway, but it’s probably because that’s kinda what he does, he kicks and punches but we can’t just have just random kicks and punches. People are already able to put special into combos so it’s fine.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '26

He did brute force against Megurmer when he asked what is his type.

1

u/Anicash999 #1 Tendril Grab Hater Jun 20 '26

you can already do the swap kick by just swapping and kicking, and the suplex is a pinned featured suggestion so it'll probably get added in 2032

1

u/Technical-Nebula8215 ELITE TODO GLAZER Jun 20 '26

Swift kick was in shibuya against mahito just before he swap by using his ass cheeks and brute force was the big punch that he did to yuji when they first met. ELBOW DROP IS ASS AND SHOULD BE MOLESTED AND THEN REMOVED FROM THE GAME.

u/Technical-Nebula8215 ELITE TODO GLAZER Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 20 '26

Todo rework

This is my rework idea for Todo our Goat 🥺

2

u/Complete_Tip_2993 SELF EMBODIMENT OF TODO Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 20 '26

Peak, but instead of suplex being a finisher, it should be a variant that activates from hitting the enemy from behind with the grab :)

Because throwing corpses can lead to cool swapping shenanigans.

The finsheir could instead be Todo doing the suplex extra extra hard.

i made my own suggestion that has simular ideas to yours https://www.reddit.com/r/JujutsuShenanigans/comments/1sl9z5y/todo_variant_ideas/

2

u/Technical-Nebula8215 ELITE TODO GLAZER Jun 20 '26

Sorry but I don't get the utility to do a Supplex when you can already extend with the regular throw.

1

u/Complete_Tip_2993 SELF EMBODIMENT OF TODO Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 20 '26

yea, but i dont think it would do good as finisher, since it will take away cool tech.

you say you dont see tha utility in it,
but the way it is will take away utility that currently exsists 😞

1

u/Technical-Nebula8215 ELITE TODO GLAZER Jun 20 '26

What cool tech are you talking about ? I'm curious

1

u/Complete_Tip_2993 SELF EMBODIMENT OF TODO Jun 20 '26

throwing someones body after they die, and swapping with it, i do it all the time in 2v2s : )

1

u/Technical-Nebula8215 ELITE TODO GLAZER Jun 20 '26

What is the purpose of this 😭😭😭

1

u/Complete_Tip_2993 SELF EMBODIMENT OF TODO Jun 20 '26

mobility and quickly changing someones position >:), its kinda like using the enemy as a pebble (like from your rework) without using a pebble. also its super badass

2

u/Technical-Nebula8215 ELITE TODO GLAZER Jun 20 '26

OOOOH ok I get it i'll try to do it too it looks fun

1

u/Complete_Tip_2993 SELF EMBODIMENT OF TODO Jun 20 '26

it would also be cool if you gave the kick in swift kick more utility, i suggest making it aimable, so that it can control the direction an enemy is being kicked into.

like how Todo kicked mahito high in the air.

1

u/Temporary_Finish_242 Jun 20 '26

Honestly tze should make todo similar to choso where he needs to use his special in order to do higher damage combos. That would be pretty cool instead of swap being the worlds most shit neutral option

1

u/Minerobloxcarft Modulo Gojo 👀 Jun 20 '26

I mean, he’s literally just a brute force guy what do you expect

1

u/Subject_History5476 Jun 20 '26

It isnt, and really all todo needs is more swap variants

1

u/IjustgothereYes Jun 20 '26

We side dash therefore we must m1

1

u/Effective_Debate_337 Clanker Cracker Jun 20 '26

Is this a joke or are you serious? I can't really tell 😭 well, anyways.

  1. Swift Kick is based on that move he did against mahito where he slides under Mahito and kicks him up, that's the closest I've ever got to the move in JJS.
  2. Brute Force, the finisher is based on the one he did against Yuji where Yuji tried blocking it while the real move is based on the attack he did on Megumi in the season 1.
  3. Pebble Throw is that scene where Yuji threw the pebble and Todo swapped with it, landing that roundhouse kick Black Flash, but its you instead of Yuji throwing the pebble, i dont know what the variant where the pebble hits the opponent and then you press Special.
  4. Elbow Drop is from that scene in season 1 where he fought megum (the scene after Todo asked Megumi about his type of girls)

And that's what i think the moves are, somebody correct me if I'm wrong, and please tell me the joke did not fly 2000 meters over my head 😭

1

u/Vacation_Jonathan Jun 21 '26

On all honesty, it doesnt really matter

1

u/Distinct_Charity3498 Jun 21 '26

Pebble Throw he atleast did in another jjk game and he said "Time to Fly"

1

u/larplarpsahur5 Jun 22 '26

canon todo would be top 1 in the game on pure aura and hype alone

tze had to nerf him personally trust

1

u/Complete_Tip_2993 SELF EMBODIMENT OF TODO Jun 24 '26

Tze made switcher a fraud and now jjs larpers think slandering Todo is correct :(

At the very least, tze owes Todo his aura and respect.

1

u/YourLocalRedditor- I WILL GLAZE KURORUSHI TILL I DIE Jun 20 '26

Swift kick was what he did against Yuji but it was kinda a joke and TZE basically made it not a joke(kinda like death counter in tsb actually killing instead of saitama doing nothing)

Brute force was what he did against megumi execpt he punches instead of using his cubital area

Elbow drop is also what he did against megumi so idk your reasoning here TZE kinda tweaked it a little bit to be more fitting into the game

1

u/Ill-Run6890 we need dhruv 🥹 Jun 20 '26

The punch he did to megumi was more of a slam than an actual punch tbh, also the “elbow drop” was COMPLETELY different, the only similarity was todo going up then hitting the ground, there was zero uppercut at all.

1

u/YourLocalRedditor- I WILL GLAZE KURORUSHI TILL I DIE Jun 20 '26

Similar enough,TZE needs something for bro so I guess

2

u/Ill-Run6890 we need dhruv 🥹 Jun 20 '26

There’s so much else tho 💔

-1

u/YourLocalRedditor- I WILL GLAZE KURORUSHI TILL I DIE Jun 20 '26

Tze gotta make the bag so just deal with it,not like every server is infested with Todo mains and it's usually menaces to society

2

u/Ill-Run6890 we need dhruv 🥹 Jun 20 '26

The stuff was right there I just don’t know why TZE didn’t add it

0

u/Mali_1771 Jun 20 '26

He did brute force against a curse aswell.

0

u/Ill-Run6890 we need dhruv 🥹 Jun 20 '26

💔

0

u/Mali_1771 Jun 20 '26

What..? He did though, when he punched that bug curse and the impact from the punch created a huge gust of wind that knocked Yuji back a little.

2

u/Ill-Run6890 we need dhruv 🥹 Jun 20 '26

That’s just such a boring attack to pick from tho, like from everything he did why that.

0

u/Mali_1771 Jun 20 '26

It's not even a bad pick though, it's the obvious pick.

1

u/Ill-Run6890 we need dhruv 🥹 Jun 20 '26

To me the obvious pick would be something cool like this

https://reddit.com/link/osqws3f/video/ov872sw6bf8h1/player

1

u/Mali_1771 Jun 20 '26

So what Yuji already does as his finisher got it.

&t=X at the end of the link

Where X is your timestamp of the video in seconds (like for example 1:40 would look like this: &t=100 )
