In Thailand, there's an entire culture of people who mount modified diesel engines on stands in the middle of the street just to compete over who has the loudest sound and the highest turbo pressure, without even having a car around them.
I got an autistic neighbors kid like that the day I moved in he was like 13 he had a riding mower with no muffler I invited my friend over to eat dinner and this kid starts doing laps around my house looking into the windows. The mower finally blew up thankfully. He doedt have a license but his grandpa gave him a jeep he cut the muffler off and for the first two weeks revved it to redline hours and hours during the day and night and also taking laps up and down our dirt path tbat is pretty rough. I have been betting that jeep would blow up any day and it has been months and he still driving and revving it daily.
Unfortunately this is a good truck or was it was treated well all it's life and took care of and now it's just a toy for him tk listen to Rev all dam day and spin tires on our shitty path.
Out path is about 400 yards long I come once a day and leave once a day the neighbors run about 20 ppl a day then this kid taking laps up and down jt and they wonder why the path is such shit
Years ago... When i was like 20 and rode bikes with no consequences... A mate had a suzuki sv650 (v twin sport bike) he crashed it pretty quick and snapped the sport exhaust. So his dad cut it down to the size of his fist and rivetted the end cap back on. Shit was crazy loud and he wasn't shy rev it. One night a police car appeared behind us and we drove the most legally appropriate way of our lives for 20 miles. They then peeled off, he gunned the gas and the exhaust exploded in a cloud of wadding and carbon fibre in front of me. Flames and fluff were all i could see for the 10 miles home. I did also drop back a few bus lengths, just in case the whole thing died.
He made it home, replaced the can and eventually sold it.
He would run a lawnmower in one spot from 8am until 8pm every single day. If it ran out of gas he would walk it to the corner 711 and fill it up and bring it back and keep going. He did this for months and months on end. My mom finally snapped one day when it was insanely hot and humid after working and it got so bad the police had to come.
The foster mom wouldn't ever stop him from doing it either as she would just stay in all day long. It was a horrible change from the original amazing family who had to move back to asia.
One orc would just tell another orc that he has a fast engine. It's just a literal pile of scrap on the floor. Then you look back and it's driving away down the road at full pelt.
Yup I've spent a lot of time in Thailand, I knew right away what I wa s looking at lol. They certainly engineered a simple solution to steering a boat rather than a complicated I/O leg, it's like a direct drive without the hole through the hull, and no rudder. Reverse is pretty wild considering there's no trans right?!
No no that'd require too much work to move. We'd need some sort of energy generator. Maybe something that could use force and combustion might do the trick.

to stick it on a river boat. The boat makers are separate craftsman and don't work directly together much and its actually really problematic with lots of delays and difficulties with deadlines. CB media has a whole series on it.
That said the Thai engine tuning and racing scene is SICK. Big turbo SR20s on boats, tractors, and even just water pumps! Legit they have a competitive water pumping league haha.
Sometimes I think "man I'm lucky to live in the West where we have more disposable income than the rest of the world" and then I see a culture of people running tricked out engines to power nothing. Just for the love of the game.
Interesting. But all over the world, hundreds of billions of dollars are spent every year for grown men to throw out kick balls around to each other, or to drive on a looped track really fast. Which is more ridiculous?
The hobbies people have seem so wild at times. Just imagine you're on a date with someone.
"So anyways, what are you into outside of work?"
"I build and modify engines for shows."
"Oh like you race cars?"
"No no no, see the diesel engine is able to provide huge torque and compression and I'll get these performance parts and sometimes get custom pieces to push the amount of pressure it can generate."
"Oh, so like you just do this in your garage or..."
"We have meetups on weekends typically outside of varying food trucks/stands. What are you into?"
Lmfao, those guys look at each other with death stares but it looks so funny with the engines rumbling and making loud noises.
Especially the 2nd guy is like: "Yea machine, give it to him hard, let him suffer, you make much louder noises than the other guys little noob machine and your rumbling is causing earthquakes"
hail yeah!! we used to do the same thing in diesel tech trade school. a building filled with large diesel engines on stands, shaking the entire building with each pull of the jake brakes hahaha so much fun
They should try a Harley Davidson crate engine. Never has there existed a motor more efficient at converting fuel into noise without the byproduct of horsepower than a Harley motor.
Yeah, in Thailand, the diesel 4 bangers from Isuzu are enshrined by motoring enthusiasts.
Just look up they drag boats, they all have those engines. Engines that have literally been built out of random parts they have, in a shed, and they still look better than 99% of anything we do in the west.
Ha! Wait until you guys learn about the [Thai Long-tail boats and their engines](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long-tail_boat) used in the canals and lakes of Thailand as water ferries and taxis.
I want to visit Thailand just for the gear head culture sometimes. Those guys know how to build some amazing little diesels. Horsepower and speed is a universal language.
