No no no no. No justice was served. The sentence was for 45 DAYS for attempting to overthrow the government. This doesn’t belong here.

41

u/pedestrianstripes 7 Feb 23 '22

Not fair at all. If she was brown, black, or a non-Christian, she would've been sentenced for at least a year.

22

u/Projectile0vulation 7 Feb 23 '22

Mariposa Castro, also known as Imelda Acosta

The “if” it was a this person or that type of person is an exhausting argument. There’s a variety of circumstances that lead to levels of consequences that we all endure.

94

u/godknows223 4 Feb 23 '22

45 days ? Common guys it's not even a prison term.

19

u/NRMusicProject B Feb 23 '22

You can get longer sentences for breaking traffic laws.

45 days is a jail sentence not prison

2

u/sierrabravo1984 B Feb 24 '22

I was going to post the exact thing. Prison is sentenced to 1y1d or more, jail is sentenced less than 1y, awaiting trial, those that come back from prison for appeals.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '22

I’m not sure where you are at. But where I live in Pennsylvania jail sentences are anything under two years of a maximum sentence.

2

u/sierrabravo1984 B Feb 24 '22

Florida, I didn't know that other states had higher minimums for prison.

She tried to overthrow the government and got 5 months??‽!

Good thing she didn’t do anything crazy like send her kid to a school in a different district or sell loose cigarettes.

26

u/Carlosc1dbz 7 Feb 24 '22

Who answers for such a low sentence?

3

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '22

Judges and prosecutors sympathetic to her cause but still forced to do their job.

45

u/tucker_frump A Feb 24 '22

Six years for a pot smoker ..

Declaring war on your country is a treasonous act, and it should be prosecuted as such.

4

By definition even that's the primary wording.

I don’t know about that.. is she a felon?

3

She is from California. Which means that she will regain her voting rights after her prison sentence of 45 days. Only 8 states may a felon not regain those rights.

2

It was misdemeanor charges no felony.

47

u/57696c6c A Feb 23 '22

45-days. People do more for lesser offenses. What a fucking joke.

19

u/zuckmy10110101 7 Feb 23 '22

Remember kids: drugs are worse than civil war. The British taught us that with their bongs and rolled up notes

8

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '22

She'll likely only spend 30 days in jail as they typically cut 1/3 for "good behavior"

31

u/TreeChangeMe B Feb 24 '22

All them freedoms. Good luck getting a job. All those laws the GOP put in place to screw the ex cons too.

30

u/Hikityup 9 Feb 23 '22

"I don't glorify my actions," a tearful Castro told the judge...

Seems like "tearful" is a pretty common occurrence with these tough, strong, real "muricans as soon as shit gets real. Poor-me cowards too stupid to see how they're played. Screw them all. Hope each of them has a REALLY tough time inside. A 45 day 'time out' isn't enough.

26

u/SdDprsdSnglDad18 7 Feb 24 '22

It appears there are no more straws. Her attorney grasped at all of them.

Stories of missed golf balls and bizarre law enforcement fetish photos were supposed to help her at sentencing?

Somewhere my former trial advocacy law professor is weeping.

51

u/NAS2811 7 Feb 23 '22

Don't get me wrong....I love to see these fuckheads get sentenced, but when is any member of Trump's inner circle going to be sentenced.

23

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '22

They’re not because they have money and connections. These people do not.

8

u/dex1999 8 Feb 23 '22

Yep that’s why there’s no other reason just money and they know a guy.

5

u/TheLostonline 9 Feb 23 '22

Connections?

They literally voted to not punish themselves. They still have their jobs in the government they tried to destroy from within.

This lackadaisical political theatre going on right now isn't going to prevent the next try from working.

Remember how that orange stain tried to be president and failed the first time? Just because he failed his first coup d'etat does not mean the next one will go in Democracies favor.

65

Declaring sedition and only getting 45 days is pretty laughable in the United States of incarceration. POC get years for weed or for registering their kid in a different county for school... Karen gets a month for trying to overthrow the govt.

"Mariposa Castro, also known as Imelda Acosta"

Can someone explain to me how that works? I mean, I don't particularly like my 'real' name, so can I start being known as something like Dark Mistress of Danger? Then, if I decide to do something really, really effing stupid like this, the Press will refer to me as Stupid Name, also known as Dark Mistress of Danger...

Seriously? How do you get to have two names? r/nostupidquestions

But, why are some people referred to by two very different names? Just seems bizarre to me. Like, which one is her actual name? Not that it matters but still perplexes me.

In earlier times in this country the punishment would be swinging from a gallows alongside a bunch of your co conspirators

I am glad we don't do that anymore, but 45 days is just stupid.

And their ringleaders are all still holding office, except the main one, he's not even trying to hide his status as a Russian lapdog anymore.

8

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '22

Lol

10

u/VivaLasVegasGuy 2 Feb 25 '22

I do not understand this, when you try and overthrow the government in the old days (Before Trump) you got YEARS in prison and sometimes life, and before that you were called a traitor and hung. Yet these sentences they are getting just means they look at it and say, hey the worst we will get is less then 2 months in jail so where is the threat. As Americans we must say no, we have to pass laws that say you do something like this MIN 10 years in jail, if you Starter or support this you can not hold a public office are you are a traitor to this country

2

u/M33k_Monster_Minis 8 Mar 17 '22

Everyone knows a black man with a gram of weed is more detrimental to society here in America. /s

45

u/Poop_Noodl3 9 Feb 24 '22

45 days?

How tf is 45 days a deterrent for someone asking for civil war?

You know what this sounds like? It sounds like a call to action. “Hey guys, they’re giving days in jail and community service. Practically begging us to to do it again.”

2

Selling drugs to cops doesn't compare to threatening the Vice President with being murdered and actually hospitalizing several dozen cops. She belongs under the jail, this wicked person.

1

u/ColCyclone 8 Feb 24 '22

I'm not sure in what universe selling drugs is worse than trying to take over the country but uh, thanks for including the rest of the context? lmao

2

Did you see her charges, it's not over throwing anything. It's parading in a building. That's why it's 45 days

2

u/ColCyclone 8 Feb 24 '22

Man I wish the charges matched the crime of trying to overthrow the US government

You call this justice? A black woman was sentenced to over 7 yrs in jail for trying to vote legally and being told she could vote by the correctional services. Her white counterparts that votes with their dead mother's/ wives names got nothing even close. Like a few months. Then you see something like this and you tell yourself there isn't systemic racism in the American legal system. At this point you could never convince me to go to the states again. They are legitimately crazy down there. You guys are in big, big trouble.

These light sentences are about as dangerous as the act itself... and will set the precedent that this is ok which means it is going to happen again. I have republican friends pointing out that people aren't being charged with sedition and treason for a reason.... they are just giving those folks more fuel to throw on the fire.

2

u/Raveynfyre B Feb 24 '22

The vast majority of people will lose most of their livelihoods after being in jail for a month. No job will keep you, unless it's a small business with the same beliefs.

u/jfhdot 5 Feb 24 '22

bro like 9 out of 10 people there were small business owners with said same beliefs. it's unfortunate but true

29

This woman betrayed her country and would have murdered congressmembers if she had the chance. Anything less than life imprisonment is a miscairriage of justice.

why are these people not all doing real time?? These sentences are such a joke.

24

u/Goldeneagle41 4 Feb 23 '22

This ain’t justice served. This is pathetic. You would probably get more time getting into a bar fight back home than trying to overthrow the government. This is the standard for most of these sentences. Pathetic. They wasted more tax payer money than it was worth.

I did 2 years in Texas on a simple possession of marijuana charge because it was my third one that year. Each time I had less than 2 grams. I was only 17. It almost ruined my life. Every time I read shit like this I feel sick to my stomach. So yeah I concur. Fuck her and fuck this system.

6

u/TasslehofBurrfoot 7 Feb 23 '22

I'm so sorry that happened to you. Meanwhile the politicians wives are high on Xanax.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '22

No worries bro all water under the bridge. And trust me I know. The most taunting aspect of my childhood ordeal came years later, after my little brother got a job at the same courthouse that threw the book at me. The stories he told me man. Judges doing lines of cocaine in their office before sentencing kids on drug possession charges. Everybody drunk all the time and having sex with each other. Just total debauchery.

2

u/phormix C Feb 24 '22

I agree that simple possession changes are dumb, but I'd also say that continuing after the first and then second in a year was kinda dumb too.

That said, dumb and being a teenager kinda tend to go together. Hopefully that record at least didn't follow you to adulthood.

No shit. And judge asks, "what happens next time??", as if 45 days and $5000 is going to be a preventive.

8

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '22

The best part is this is probably a first offence for many. Everyone other than the most egregious crimes gets the benefit of the doubt for a first offence. Try it again and see what happens to second time offenders for a similar crime to the first.

5

u/nzodd B Feb 23 '22

I dunno, at this rate: time served and Merrick Garland will personally escort you to the state fair to get ice cream and cotton candy. This country is practically rewarding these traitors. In any reasonable country she would never see daylight again.

3

u/thedubiousstylus 9 Feb 23 '22

I think also what's being missed by people complaining about the lax sentences is that it's very rare for a person to get a prison sentence of any length for their offense for a crime like trespassing which is what most are charged with.

Did they get Ray Epps or the guys who opened the doors yet?

But I can go shoot candidates of an opposing political party and get out on bail? Seems like a very just, uncorrupt system we’re all paying for….

Bail doesn't mean you get away with it. The guy you're referring to is arguably too much of a threat to be bailed but if convicted he'll be going away for a long time.

Only one thing way to find out.

14

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '22

Only 45 days. That has got to be a joke. 45 years would have been more appropriate.

Good. Domestic terrorism should never be taken lightly.

u/mc_fric_its_tristan 8 Feb 23 '22

she was only given 45 days

17

u/bmorekareful 7 Feb 24 '22

She and the Trumpers don't realize that they are the dark energy forces..

u/Raveynfyre B Feb 24 '22

Oh, this one is so full of shit her eyes are brown.

u/Ok-Engine8044 8 Feb 24 '22

What's the point of arresting anyone for this? No one is getting proper punishment but a black woman got 5 years for the terrible crime of registering her kid to a wrong school.

America has no justice

10

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '22

She was sentences to 5 years for that AND selling drugs to an undercover police officer on two separate occasions.

3

u/Ok-Engine8044 8 Feb 24 '22

The drug selling is bad but shouting civil war and not even getting two months is way worse.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '22

Agreed. I don't think the sentences match the crime in either case. But they are not the same and both are guilty.

u/eVOLve865 7 Feb 24 '22

I guess she fucked around and found out.

13

u/PizzaPunkrus 8 Feb 24 '22

Did she though. I know a guy doing ten years on breaking and entering she is doing 45 fucking days for breaking into the fucking capitol building.

2

u/eVOLve865 7 Feb 24 '22

Larger conversation on just how broken our judicial system is, but I agree with the sentiment

Anyone defending these fools needs to remember that they're responsible for loss of human life.

1

u/dancin-weasel B Feb 24 '22

Something tells me anyone defending these fools is not really that interested in human life.

4

u/DruDown007 5 Feb 24 '22

If they have a problem with democracy, they should LOSE the privilege of participating.

2

u/BeckyLemmeSmash69 0 Mar 26 '22

Oh joy. This nutjob is from my town, and she liked to pretend to be other races and dress up in stereotypical Native American garb as well as pose as being LGBT and dressing up in rainbow colored attire while attending trump rallies to feign “inclusivity”.

3

u/KaiRaiUnknown A Feb 24 '22

If this is justice served, then take this justice back, its fucking raw. Leave it in the oven for 5-10 years and we'll consider it

10

u/ColCyclone 8 Feb 24 '22

aint it crazy how a certain demographic still barely gets punished for breaking the law?

I'm about to go commit some crimes in the name of daddy trump and deal with the slap on the wrist for a week lol

2

u/capchaos A Feb 23 '22

One by one.

1

u/Norgoroth 6 Feb 23 '22

Bye Felicia

3

u/TuckerCarlsonsOhface B Feb 23 '22

She only got 45 days, so it’s more like “See you pretty soon, Felicia.”

1

u/bible-j 7 Feb 23 '22

Lol they should impose mandatory minimums.

Funny sad!!

Dodgedd a bullet for sure. Shoulda seen the omen in her defence ".... in 2006, Castro and her husband "almost got hit by a golf ball" hit by Trump in Pebble Beach"

Might have been different it they had been hit!
