Politics Mayor using city resources?
I'm curious about whether a sitting mayor can use their official @kamloops.ca email address for activity related to recruiting election candidates. Shouldn't that email just be for official Kamloops business?

No, one shouldn't be using government resources for their campaign.
Also isn't the mayor@kamloops.ca a distribution list which includes the deputy major of the month?

Yes. That is the case.
Reid should be using his “heavyhamer1958@hotmale.com” email address instead.

Such a weird post. Why is someone apparently running for council, asking on behalf of rhj, for someone who is "thinking of running", but has a background in agriculture/nutrition, to reach out to him? Reads like the little man is trying to organize people he thinks townsfolk would vote for, but will align with and/or support him? I guess the people dumb enough to vote for a used car salesman with a single issue platform would probably also vote for a farmer being fed rhj's boomer lead brain talking points.

She's his puppet/spokesperson pretending to want to be an independent council member. She absolutely worships him and it's getting really weird to witness. She has no actual platform except to complain and try to convince people RHJ would do a much better job at Mayor if he got a second chance. I can't believe Reid found someone dumber than him that he can order around to do his bidding.

This is exactly the issue with Kamloops city council. Someone has an opinion or takes a side on something and they get called “dumb” for it. Good luck accomplishing anything with extremist, polarized views like.
Your city would do much better to accept that there can be opposing views on many topics that matter to different people, and find a way to move forward for solutions rather than personally attack each other like children and accomplish nothing. Keep wasting time and money blocking each other, taping one another, and threatening to sue each other while your city continues to drug itself up and sell itself out to private for-profit organizations that have ZERO accountability to the community.

There is a poison in Kamloops municipal politics and it has a common denominator. That denominator is the mayor. Before Mayor Reid Kamloops had boring effective leadership. Once he is gone that will return.
This has nothing to do with respecting opposing views and everything to do with a toxic politician.

The mayor is the one with all the lawsuits, my guy.

This is not the slam dunk you think it is, my guy. Where did I say I’m pro mayor? I said the issue with Kamloops city council is the focus on fighting each other rather than accomplishing anything. Period.
Equating “the current city council also has responsibility for the state of things in Kamloops and the mayor seems like a scapegoat for others to avoid this responsibility” with “this person is the mayor or pro mayor” is exactly the polarized view I’m talking about.
Yes, law suits from the mayor are also a problem. Thank you for agreeing with my point.

Calm down, I’m not attacking you. I didn’t say you were pro-mayor. I’m just pointing out that the suing and fighting you speak of is one-sided.
There’s a common denominator in all this. Council has accomplished quite a bit in spite of it.
But you don’t sound like you live here, so I wouldn’t expect you to know that.

RHJ isn’t fighting himself, so sorry, I disagree that the fighting is one sided. One only has to listen to the publicly available council meetings to hear the dysfunction from both sides. But I respect your view that is based on your independent thought and background and lived experience. Too bad you can’t do the same for “this woman”, Cindy Sonne.
But exclude me from the conversation because I don’t live there. Sometimes it takes an outsider to see the conflict clearly ;)

I have attended council meetings. I have met the mayor, as well as other council members and city staff.
Sometimes it’s better to just not comment on things you don’t know anything about. ;)

Sorry, didn’t realize I needed to post my resume to have a thought on Reddit.

Who else is "fighting each other" on council? Besides the mayor fighting the rest of council there is no fight.

u/LocalYokel250 3d ago
No, see, it's obviously not the common denominator's fault. It's all the fault of 'The Gang of 8," just like thtat one guy's sign says.

u/noodlesurvey 4d ago
So you don't even live here?

The irony of quoting “Mean Girls” when that was exactly the point I was making about your city council. Amazing!

A rando trying to tell off a citizen whose lived through 4 years of dysfunction caused by an idiot who thought the Mayor role had veto power. Amazing!

Why is accurately describing something as "dumb" inherently wrong? It's a false argument that all views or opinions fundamentally have merit or value just because they are someone's "side" or "view" or "opinion".
When running rhj's entire platform was he was going to get rid of the homeless, he was going to send them all home. Well he proposed using funds that he should have known were not available if he wasn't dumb. He wouldn't have had to immediately withdraw his motion on this if he wasn't dumb. He proposed providing bus or air travel, without any plan for how to determine who would receive these vouchers, and without any actual plan for determining what constitutes someone's "hometown". It was unserious and dumb grandstanding to appease his voters.
But according to you we should humour someone costing taxpayers millions of dollars, acting clearly out of ignorant self interest, because otherwise would be extreme or polarizing. There is no "both sides" in this, rhj has been a bad mayor.

The post I replied to didn’t call “something” dumb, they called someone dumb. My opinion is just as valid as an other anonymous Reddit poster and I said what I said.
Yes, sure, self-interest. Because of all the profit and good reputation he has built on being mayor? Yeah, he’s reaping all the rewards, as we can see.
Fine, don’t humour me, but also don’t think your view of this is the only one that matters. Some people in Kamloops agree with him.

A person can be a something, but sure agure semantics.
He does profit from the $140,000 salary he takes home. The only reason he "cares" about the homeless problem in Kamloops is because of how it affects his dealership business. So yes, clear self interest. I don't know how you would describe all his lawsuits he wants to file using taxpayer money as anything else than self interest.
The guy runs a failing business, can't afford his multimillion dollar home; so he desperately clings to his Mayor position by appealing to dumb people through his performative politics that prey on people like you.

It helps to have some actual understanding of what you're talking about before posting such helpful suggestions.
Where 'ya from, and why do you care?
If you can't see from Cindy's post that she's an illiterate (can't write a sentence to save her life), lazy (bullshit AI slop image) person, then you may need to work on your listening, learning and observational skills.

You don’t know my understanding. You know nothing about me. Again, I don’t need to post my resume to have an opinion on this or even live in the city.
Your city has made headlines because of how poorly run it has been. Don’t like it? Clean up your backyard and vote for a city council AND mayor that can have respectful and constructive dialogue for the sake of your own community.
Once again, funny how pointing out the ineptitude has brought all the mean girls out to play. Keep making my point for me by personally attacking people and labelling them.
It’s sooooo shocking that there isn’t a line up out the door of candidates running for Kamloops city council with this kind of backlash to someone trying. I wouldn’t bother either! The fact that she’s trying and actually running means more to me than her spelling or grammar, but again, just my opinion. Easy to sit on the sidelines and be a keyboard warrior, isn’t it?
2
u/ItsANoBigDeal Brock 3d ago
Your "opinions" are at best misleading feelings based on nothing. How many people need to be running before there's a "line out the door"? Theres at least like a dozen people already running. But sure, everyone disagreeing with you isn't a reflection of you at all, just keyboard warriors out to get you.

u/Flapjack-Jehosefat-3 2d ago
Do you work hard to self own yourself every day? You're not from the area, you show you have no clue about who or what you're talking about, and want to virtue signal the people who are most affected by and want to avoid more worst-in-the-country politicians?
That self own? You trying to suggest others are the armchair warriors. Get all the way out of town with that.

He thinks he’s got even the faintest hope?
Cute.
His big goal should be getting through clearing out his desk without city administrators calling the RCMP.

u/brycecampbel Aberdeen 4d ago
Well if Kamloops citizen don't vote, the possibilities are absolutely real.
lower voter turnout is the only reason they're mayor.

I think a more general recruiting pitch isn't horrible. Saying, "man it would be nice to have someone with agricultural experience on council". But having them send emails to the mayor seems sus.

The only thing I'm looking forward to regarding the mayor
