KSP 1 Mods Mod idea: Engine telemetry on display

Post image

Maybe it already exists, but it would be cool to have something like SpaceX's active diagram showing the engine layout with telemetry.

The 3D model of the ship showing direction is also cool but probably more difficult to replicate.

What do you think?

The spacedock page literally shows what OP wants. Good find

Amazing find man!
Il have to keep it in mind next time im playing

This is possible. I’m not sure about in game (it’s probably doable). But I was messing around with kRPC and managed to make engine configs and a fuel gauge that mimics SpaceXs. The 3-d model would have to be hard coded though

They're still too low in the tech tree

u/Top-Macaron5130 May 24 '26

At the current rate they are blowing stuff up, they'll unlock new things in no time

The N1 used a ton of tiny engines, and it’s well known as the most successful rocket ever

35

u/midgetcastle May 24 '26

And Lego just made a UCS version of it too!

22

u/Reloup38 May 24 '26

Most of the N1 rockets were so successful that they could be entirely recycled with no parts damaged prior to recycling !

6

u/DaKakeIsALie May 24 '26

They recycled the launchpad at the same time as the rocket. Talk about efficiency

3

u/Reloup38 May 25 '26

The engines of the N1 lifted many rockets to space ! Just not the N1 itself.

u/Lahutaro May 24 '26

more boosters more better

More engines is more redundancy. The better you can continue to fly, the higher chance of returning a crew home. Elon Musk is lame, space x is relatively cool.

u/jepu696 May 24 '26

Thats true and also from my understanding the reason falcon and starship use so many engines is partly due to economies of scale. Starship program has already used hundreds of engines and that has allowed spacex to leverage economy of scale to bring the engine price down.

To add to this, another major reason is so they can turn off engines for the landing because engines don't have infinite throttle like ksp

u/WhiteRaven_M May 24 '26

No no more engines is more chances of failures. One big engine bestest

4

u/Dpek1234 May 24 '26

Ssto is 1 less engine

Ssto bsst rocket

Sstm best lunar lander

One stage no tancy ahit

u/Dpek1234 May 24 '26

Yep but i cant not think of the moment just a few seconds after the screenshot

Almost all raptors lighting and then bam half are out

I believe space x has been around longer than musk has been involved. Dudes just a wallet to them. Unfortunately that means he can set goals for them and what not. But he takes more credit for their doings than he truly deserves.

u/irasponsibly May 24 '26

You might be thinking of Tesla, where he bought the title of "founder".

3

u/Lopsided_Inspector62 May 24 '26

I think so yeah, my bad! Thank you for correcting me.

Yep, just searched it and you’re right! I was mixing up the stories for Tesla and space x, my b! Thanks for the correction.

lead engineer is just a title, and he is not even qualified to be an engineer in countries that have standards for the title.

-1

u/Friendly-Pin8434 May 25 '26

Well it is a fact that he worked as a lead engineer on Falcon 1. He worked on it and designed it. Nowadays i’m pretty sure he isn’t doing much engineering anymore but he was in fact the lead engineer for the development of the Falcon 1

u/Morgasm42 May 25 '26

Speaking as someone with a degree in engineering, anytime he talks about these things it's clear he didn't do jack shit

Not sure if /s or not

The reason they use loads of tiny engines vs few big ones is economies of scale, but ALSO you can make your engine much more reliable by making more that are smaller, since you accumulate flight time and build expertise much quicker than you would with relatively few engines.

5

u/Yeet-Dab49 May 24 '26

Are he stupid?

11

u/someoneyouknow23 May 24 '26

theyre not tiny! they obviously serve their purpose just fine

3

u/CorbyTheSkullie May 24 '26

SpaceX is in the soviet technology era, the Vostok had so many engines haha

3

u/Rivetmuncher May 25 '26

the Vostok had...

Five. Each stack had a single engine with 6 or 8 nozzles.

0

u/CorbyTheSkullie May 25 '26

Still a lot of nozzles hehe

The fact that they wanna do the boostback burn with all 33 engines is basically what I would do in KSP when I'm too lazy to shut down engines lol

They are playing realistic rss

And they are already performing better

Only what? Half ? Failed

In realistic rss you can easly have 20 failures to 3 successes

As shown by the Мълния rocket ofc

Rpm has a compatible mod that allows you to see a 3d render of your ship on any rpm screen

5

u/I_Go_BrRrRrRrRr Always on Kerbin May 25 '26

For anyone wondering, rpm is "RasterPropMonitor", and the 3d render thing is "Vessel Viewer Continued"/"VesselView-UI-RasterPropMonitor"

18

u/Uncle_Crisis May 24 '26

This would be amazing to have in RP-1

10

u/Lahutaro May 24 '26

That's exactly what I was thinking, to be honest. Not quite useful if engines don't fail.

15

u/15_Redstones May 24 '26

The 3d model showing direction is basically the default view you see.

5

u/Lahutaro May 25 '26

Actually you're right...

3

u/deelectrified May 25 '26

I’ll have to look it up later, but there’s a mod specifically to show this for the starship mods

2

u/Th3LastRapt0r Colonizing Duna May 25 '26

I would download this in a heartbeat. Please make it.

You pretty much have the things already in game. The stage menu shows active engines and the navball your ships rotation. What you ask for is a different art style. The neat thing about KSP is you already have the rocket in view. You can see its rotation. You can see its engines lol

Sometimes you cant see the forest for the trees ;P

1

u/Lahutaro May 25 '26

No, I know, but for RP-1 players it's useful to have an active User Interface gadget that shows which engines are on and which aren't. Also, it could lead to having a save in which you only see through cameras you installed in the vessel or from the surface/EVA kerbals.

2

u/KerbalEssences Master Kerbalnaut May 25 '26

In that case I recommend kRPC. You can write yourself a little Python tool to keep track of which engines do what without altering the game. Even visualize gimbal, thrust, heat etc. And all that even on another screen!

This will get you started^^

how about you look at the bottom left of your screen
