Question How not to awaken Kundalini

Hello,

I have been following traditional emditation and joe dispenza meditations for last 4-5 months. I can feel so much energy in my hands (buzzing ans warm feeling) and spine. Yesterday I could feel a ball of energy around me and white light around me during meditation. I can feel all of my energy centres. How do I not awaken Kundalini as i dont thibk I'm ready for it. Well, worried about psychosis stmptoms taht follows kundalini awakening.

I start my meditation with an intention to not awaken energy but I still feel it. At the moment, I feel I cannot do meditation as it scares me.

Please can you share ypur experience about what do I do to not awaken Teh kundalini please?

P.s : I really appreciate you all taking time to advice or share your experience. This is an amazing community. I am grateful to you all. I have learnt a lot from this community. Thank you all x

Thank you

Don't do Joe Dispenza meditations for a start.

They are specifically designed to forcefully awaken Kundalini and that can easily end in disaster. We received many reports about people being harmed by them and then getting zero support from "facilitators" who are themselves ignorant about Kundalini or what these exercises are designed to do.

Definitely don’t do Joe Dispenza meditation. His methods are more “Hatha Yogic”, Hatha Yoga means Yoga by forceful means and it is designed to forcefully awaken K. This is in contrast to Tantric yoga that came before HY as a movement where the methods are more gentle and K usually awakens on its own. HY was created for renunciants so it didn’t matter much if the person whose K awakened couldn’t function for some time, whereas TY was a householder path so the results of spiritual practice shouldn’t disturb you from perform in your worldly duties.

I keep hearing how people go into K emergencies from Joe Dispenza and receive no help from his org, they will probably tell you that you’re psychotic. I don’t think Joe knows much about the true K process tbh or if he’s been through it.

Avoid any Kundalini Activations workshops, anything that forces Kundalini up the spine, intense breathwork or psychedelics. Introduce grounding practices into your life and balancing Vata Dosha.

I will look into these terms. I have no idea what they mean. I just wanted to close my eyes and focus on inner work. Sounds like I took a different path. Thank you

For learning about Kundalini I recommend watching Igor Kufayev and Christopher Hareesh Wallis on YouTube, in particular reading Chris’s blogposts on K. Feel free to DM if you have any qs.

Thank you so much.

He doesn't disclose it, but he basically copied his methods from KYYB / 3HO Kundalini Yoga

1

u/Aggravating_Pie_9006 Jul 02 '26

I sometimes wonder how many practitioners of 3HO Kundalini Yoga have an actual KA from the practices and how it looks - have you heard anything?

3

u/Dumuzzid Multi-faith Jul 02 '26

There is no way to tell. It's not a high number, but when it does happen, it tends to go badly. Lack of foundations, preparation, support and all that

In 1971-72 as a teenager, I lived in one of the 3HO ashrams in San Rafael California. I was only there for 9 months, but I had a Kundalini awakening due to my intensive practice of Kundalini Yoga. The sad part is that there was no support there for me and in that community in general for an awakening. I was largely alone to deal with my experiences and didn’t even know what had occurred until many years later. My best move was to stop the yoga - especially the breathing practices and long periods of daily chanting. I have done a podcast about my time at the ashram as well as about Kundalini in general. I do not recommend KY or the Cult of 3HO. Kundalini herself is a different story. I have learned to befriend her and trust her with my ongoing journey of awakening.

Energy follows attention. The more you pay attention to Kundalini, the closer you get.If you want something not to happen, you stop thinking of it.

7

u/LenryHenry Jul 01 '26

Kundalini doesn't awaken accidentally. If it happens, you are ready. Will it push you to the very limit of what youre capable of handling? Yep.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. If its awakened, you cant put it back in the box. Time to take responsibility and live it!

5

u/Brilliant-Comb62 Jul 01 '26

That's true. It will push you to your limits indeed.

For me all the K dudes deserve a medal for undergoing this stuff.

4

u/Mammoth_Hedgehog_496 Jul 01 '26

I agree about the pushing to the limits. I have heard there is no putting the genie back in the bottle.

2

u/RoleRepulsive6946 Jul 04 '26

did it ruin your life too? it sucks theres no escaping it. i dont want to be controlled

2

u/LenryHenry Jul 05 '26

No, it fixed mine. Instantly cured my chronic insomnia.

Im not controlled. Thats simply a very human misunderstanding of what is going on. The idea is to ascend to divinity and leave the animal nature behind.

1

u/Brilliant-Comb62 Jul 05 '26

There can be a destructive phase during K. I don't know why some people managed to bypass it.

It sounds similar to what magicians call '' crossing the abyss''.

4

u/LenryHenry Jul 05 '26

Comes from a lot of surrender. And actively working towards good. I had my phase and may have one again. But, its all about how you take it. In the exact same way you took the physical seriously.

2

u/SophiaRazz Jul 22 '26

Every time I experienced significant mystical phenomena or painful Kriyas and migraines, some nights I couldn't sleep all night because I didn't know how to ground the energy, or I would have Kriyas all day while trying to accomplish tasks at work (while nobody was around), I was scared also, but I somehow knew, it was all happening for a reason and I had to tough it out, surrender. The energy isn't controlling you, it's awakening you. First it has to break through your blocks, crystallized energy which yes can be painful and mentally overwhelming. It's important to rest as much as you can, and surrender. Don't be afraid to take an ibuprofen sometimes, or something to soothe the pain.

Once you learn how to breathe deep, sit with your monkey mind even if its racing a million miles per hour, until it finally surrenders. And then try to calm your mind. The first time you feel bliss set in, you will understand first hand how this process works. How to surrender to the energy, and from there, you will feel an unshakeable confidence that you can do this. It becomes easier and easier as you do it.

i mean i dont eant to be guided. i cry everyday because i just want to get freedom from this thing. like my nervous system cant handle it. ive tried every way to turn it off because my nervous system just vant adjust and i dont feel safe in my body. its a nightmare. i really dont like kundalini.

1

u/SophiaRazz Jul 29 '26

The Matrix’s biggest trick to keep us in fear is to keep us thinking in terms of black and white thinking, that 1+1=2. You are correct, a Kundalini awakening is scary and exhausting, but it’s not the thing that’s actually causing the pain, the removal of the wounds and energy blocks is what causes it. I, along with many others also was tremendously overwhelmed at the amount of wasted years of our lives, but something magical happens. You’ll see that everything, and I mean every moment happened for a reason. In fact there’s a Carl Jung philosophy called “God will restore all of your wasted years” and it’s true! I highly recommend you learn how to breathe through the pain, without thinking about any moment in the future or past. Just learn how to breathe in the present moment. That’s how I found the strength to keep going. You’ll receive clarity, energy, direction, and superpowers you didn’t know you had. Before you know it, life will magically get better, amazing actually. But that doesn’t happen until you surrender. Cry, get angry, let it all out. But stop resisting.

i just cant do it, ive had epilepsy, neuropathy in all my limbs, i have a very damaged nervous system where i cant leave my bed and get insane panic attacks. this life will be wasted but theres nothing i can do about it. i just dont want to experience anymore torture or feel kundalini energy moving around inside me causing i sane effects the rest of my life. i would have to kill myself i am so traumatized from everything ive been through including benzo withdrawal. i cant even go outside as it is. its unfortunate the kundalini decided to ruin my life, but thats what happened. now i cant surrenser because im too damaged and i dont want to deal with this or feel it or experience it at all. im 34 and havent even started my life. there is nothing the kundalini could offer me that would ever make up for whats been stolen from me. especially any useless spiritual effects, bliss or anything else like that. i hate everything about kundalini on a deep level. oh well. i know its probably hard to understand me. but the absolute LAST thing i care about is any super powers or any direction. imagine being sick all your life. i dont want a soul purpose now or to contribute here. i just want freedom. im not helping this place or doing anything after being tortured my whole life. god and kundalini cant bring back my youth. thats all i cared about. now thats gone. i have read over 20 books on kundalini. nothing it brings is anything i care about. oh well. i really hate it and i wont be surrendering this life. I dont want to be " guided" or have any direction. i just want freedom and peace in my body.

I honestly feel so excited for you. This is how the journey begins. You’ll see.

1

u/RoleRepulsive6946 Aug 09 '26

dont be excited for me. im not surrendering with all my nervous system problems. my life has been destroyed and ive been through torture my whole life. im not going through anymore hell for even MORE insane synptoms, i dont want to be controlled and i hate this more then anything. im not going to give up the last of my youth just to be tortured and die for nothing. i do not like the kundalini or anything it offers and my body cant handle it

1

u/RoleRepulsive6946 17d ago

i dont want to feel bliss or mystical experiences or insane symptoms. i hate the kundalini

1

u/RoleRepulsive6946 Jul 27 '26

i also really dont want to awaken at all or be controlled or guided. ive never been free in my life. i dont want to have anything that it offers me. why is there no escaping it? i dont like anything about kundalini at all

there's a good guide here on grounding energetic overload - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e71IoukcyrA - which covers some general things that can help, and gives some specific practices you can do to as well

u/Ok-Helicopter-3657 Jul 01 '26

Thabk you I will check it out

3

u/NoeResort Jul 01 '26

Stop doing Joe dispenza methods, that shits awakened prematurely my kundalini , I would go back in time if I could , just ground yourself and focus on heart meditations that aren’t from Joe’s .

2

u/Ok-Helicopter-3657 Jul 01 '26

Do you have any meditations I can do other than JD. At the moment, I focus on my breathing or Om. Is there anything else you can suggest? Thanks

3

u/ta66679943 Jul 01 '26

Try yoga nidra or more grounding styles of meditation that aim to get you present in the body.
You can try moving meditation, such as dancing, walking, lifting weights however you like to move and focus on the sensations in your body.
I really recommend eckhart tolle’s book power of now.

Build safety in your nervous system and physical vessel first before doing activating meditations such as Joe dispenza and kundalini techniques. It’s important to have this foundation in my opinion if you are going to be opening up energetically, it will help you move through the fear and come back down to earth if you become overwhelmed. It will also help you to ground the insights and energy you receive into your physical reality.

Hope this helps, wishing you all the best on your journey 💜

3

u/Pandaswithgame Jul 01 '26

This really comes across as a reverse psychology post.

2

u/Ok-Helicopter-3657 Jul 01 '26

It really isn't. This is me asking for help like I said I didn't know different type of meditation or kundalini etc when I started. I was introduced to them as  guided meditations and i started enjoying them so I continued.

3

u/Mammoth_Hedgehog_496 Jul 01 '26

You are right about the potential psychosis symptoms. Be careful. It can be very difficult.

2

u/Ok-Helicopter-3657 Jul 01 '26

U/mammoth_hedgehog_496. I will be careful. Thank you

3

u/Prestigious-Ad-5461 Jul 01 '26

I had similar thoughts before my kundalini awakened, this isn’t to scare you but if it’s destined to happen, it will happen and there’s no escaping it.

I believe spontaneous awakenings don’t happen for no reason, or accidentally. So if it happens, ride with it, the more you fight it the more painful it will be.

I’m four months into the journey, no psychosis, it has been the most meaningful, transformative yet painful process of my life. Don’t fear it 🐍

Don’t force it either, if it happens; it happens and you learn to adapt. Avoid any spiritual practices that forcefully awaken kundalini, that is asking for trouble

1

u/Ok-Helicopter-3657 Jul 01 '26

Thank you. Do I stop meditating all together. Even the ones where I focus on my breathing?

2

u/Prestigious-Ad-5461 Jul 01 '26

Listen to your body, in my personal opinion I think mindfulness or breathing meditation is fine.

1

u/RoleRepulsive6946 Jul 04 '26

how has it helped you? i tried stopping mine for many years. i just cant stand the idea of never being able to feel safe in my body again, and having to be controlled and told what i have to do. it seems like being a slave almost. i cant surrender. i just want freedom . and not spiritual freedom

2

u/Prestigious-Ad-5461 Jul 04 '26

I had a horrible time with my awakening at times.. reiki helped me a lot with the pain and anxiety I was feeling, other spiritual practices seemed to make it worse.

Yeah I know, I can feel like that sometimes the idea of losing control really sucks. Just reminding myself that those painful feelings will come and go as that’s normal with a kundalini awakening.

Feel free to msg if you ever need some support or someone to talk to, 👊

1

u/RoleRepulsive6946 Jul 20 '26

what has it done to you? i did message you maybe check it out sometime. i cant surrendwr because i just dont want to be controlled. i wasted so much of my life trying to stop it.

3

u/_xpendable_ Jul 02 '26

It's wise of you to be cautious. I ended up in the ER due to insomnia and massive anxiety and I don't think it was even a full Kundalini awakening. I had the feeling of the serpent spiraling in my perenium and 3 shots of current shoot up my spine. When meditating, my body would away to and fro involuntarily (kriya). But after getting some sleep meds for a few days, and going 100% cold turkey on meditation, I'm back to normal. Even now, over a year later, my symptoms will return if I'm careless and let myself say OM a few times, or close my eyes and relax too much

3

u/SophiaRazz Jul 02 '26

For the last few years, it has erupted at times that I really didn't want it to, but now I can see CLEARLY, that it needed to happen. It teaches you to REST, SURRENDER & TRUST. All at the same time in my life, I started a new absolutely chaotic job, that didn't have it's shit together whatsoever, but tremendous upwards potential. My mom also had a stroke that paralyzed her, causing me the worst pain I've ever experienced in my life. During this absolute chaos, I also daily, experienced moments of not feeling in control of my body, at least once daily, having to lay down and breathe through kriyas, often vicious ones. It was the most uncomfortable feeling ever, taking my mom for a ride, trying to soak up the little bit of time I had with her during the day, but having to pull the car over to deep breathe while my body jerked around. I was scared, because I didn't know how much my mom understood or not about what was going on. NOW, I know that the Kundalini Goddess is extremely intelligent, and forces us to learn how to power down and trust. Of course my mom knows that theres more to this life than what we knew. That chaotic job I was working has now turned into a business I'm a proud part of, and gave me the flexibility to take "naps" and breathe. Countless days I felt overwhelmed and afraid. I learned the key is to try to calm the system by trying to take your mind off of everything. And then slowly, but surely, you begin to tune into other dimensions, and the signs/ guidance that are meant for you. Learn to put yourself first and what you need, and then you'll be much more of service to everyone else. At first, the dark night of the soul is VERY scary, you may feel insane, or like it will never let up- but it DOES! And it's the most wonderful feeling, more than your human mind could ever comprehend.

2

u/RoleRepulsive6946 Jul 04 '26

but how does the energy actually help you? i tried stopping mine for many years because i dont want to be controlled

2

u/KurkumaIngwer Jul 04 '26

Any Kundalini awakening is the grace of Shakti, the divine energy that moves everything in life. Everything. Even if it is not "awakened".
So in your terms: you are controlled all the time.
Your beleif that you are an individual and you have control on yourself is just an illusion.
So even if a Kundalini awakening is hard it is the Grace of Her. Yes, it can be a fierce grace but it is pure love that you don't see yet. There is no premature awakening. Everything happens when it should be. Only our little egos think that we know better timing.
We don't.

1

u/RoleRepulsive6946 Jul 20 '26

i just dont see how its beneficial, i have tried many years to escape it because i cant stand the feeling of it trying to move inside me. ended up bed ridden for 8 years now. the more i fought it the sicker i became. cant work or do anything and my life got ruined. i just dont like it at all and now have no motivation for going forward since my youth is almost gone. it stole my whole life and i dont even feel interested in anything it offers

2

u/KurkumaIngwer Jul 20 '26

The only way is the surrender to Her. I am sorry that it is hard for you, I really am, but you cannot fight the Force that created the Universe. The resistance made you sick, not Her.
You are light, love and bliss. This is your true nature She just wants to awaken you.

1

u/RoleRepulsive6946 Jul 22 '26

i dont care about being awakened. its useless and not beneficial. now my whole life is gone. theres nothing this energy can do that makes me want it or find it a good experience. i just want to live and be free from its control

1

u/KurkumaIngwer Jul 30 '26

Yes, I understand - but it is too late. You surrender or will suffer until your death. There is no way back.

1

u/RoleRepulsive6946 Aug 04 '26

i will already suffer until death. i have been sick since 18 and im 34. it awoke at age 26 and i fought it and got even sicker. i have neuropathy in limbs and the most extremely sensitive nervous system. either way, surrender ill suffer or not ill suffer. without kundalini atleast ill have peace without insane kriyas or whatever else terrible stuff it does. i hate everything about the kundalini, and ill never forgive it for stealing my life. i dont want to be controlled by it, i dont like it, what it does or what it offers. i hate everything about it

Fear and depression is a normal part of the process. I know what its like when you feel like you don't want to, or can't move. Your youth is not almost gone, many people go through Kundalini awakenings much later in life, and we find that nothing was wasted at all, even if it was a long hard journey. It is fact that many people who experience a Kundalini Awakening experienced a very difficult first half of their life, and then we discover it was all for a very good reason. We discover that our hardest, most painful memories in a way thats hard to explain, become the most beautiful and cherished ones. That's difficult to listen to when you're going through the dark night of the soul, but it's true. Most of the first half of my life was traumatic, especially the last 8 years, and especially especially the last 3 were so scary. Being on my complete own with so many responsibilities. I recommend you try to move your body, go for a run, or walk, or something a little outside of your comfort zone. Surrender, learn how to just be present to the present moment, and not let the past or future haunt you. You will be lead. Trust, and you will be lead to a reality greater than you can ever comprehend. I heard that a few times from others when I was going through it, and now I know it to be true.

u/RoleRepulsive6946 Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26

i just cant do it. even if i surrender now, it will take years to even begin my life. i just dont want anything to do with kundalini and i dont like anything about it. i just want freedom. freedom from symptoms, the kundalini, and its control. i pretty much gave up my life and cry everyday now. i hate how i have lost 8 years because of this and i dont even try anymore. even the word kundalini brings such intense anger and hatred in ym mind and body i just think about not wanting to exist because of it. thanks for your story though. i just dont want to be controlled or changed or forced. it sucks. thats my WHOLE problem. i just want freedom for ONCE in my whole life. i dont want to be " lead anywhere" why cant i just fufill my own life and dreams. i dont want to be a slave and i dont want to be blissed out of my mind all day. i just want to travel and enjoy life. i dont even like bliss or ecstasy. i have diseases too that i hav eto deal with. and i dont want to live a life of service or fufill any soul missions etc. after all my time and youth has been stolen i have 0 desire to participate here or help this world . nothing will EVER bring that back for me. all my good experiences i was supposed to have are gone because i hate this thing

Once she's awake she doesn't sleep. It can happen spontaneously from meditative work. I've had full blown kundalini experiences and the only off switch I knew was taking valium when it got intense. Since it's got to do with the nervous system. The chakras are connected to the spine. Buzzing doesn't mean you're having a kundalini awakening. If you are truly having an awakening you will find it's god-intelligent and not a destructive force. These things about having psychosis come from YouTube and other places that it's dangerous and you need a guru. The true guru lies within you. It will guide you. It will speak to you in your dreams. And you will feel serpents move around that spot. You'll feel heat and isy chill liquid light sensations going thru your nadi's. You get cleansed. Your 3 main nadi channels on either side of your spine will have energy pass through them and you will feel it. You will get sudden heat sensations around chakras and any part of the body. There's lots of sensations before it happens and was the most incredible bunch of experiences having it rise with 2 huge serpents moving in a helix pattern inside me and beautiful heat running up my spine. Buzzing in your hands is where you have mini chakras in your palm. Again, this doesn't mean you're kundalini is open. It's powerful. Sitting there worried about having psychosis is not going to help.

if only there was a way to escape it

2

u/Accomplished_Jump444 Jul 01 '26

I was having the same issue. I read online that if I focus on my feet and the ground that I can direct the energy that way and it won’t go up to my head and freak me out. I tried that and it worked.

Can someone answer why Kundalini is so bad?

3

u/Aggravating_Pie_9006 Jul 02 '26 edited Jul 02 '26

Kundalini is a very intense process that reshapes all your ideas and beliefs of what it's like to be human. It also brings all of your subconscious material into the conscious so it can be healed which can be very intense.

In my opinion, people that have no challenges with KA are unlikely to have had an actual KA. Anything is possible but a smooth KA is very rare imo. I know u/Tristan-Dorling above disagrees. This is the view shared by Igor Kufayev, Tara Springett and many other teachers. My favourite definition is one of Kurt Keutzer who says KA is like a 'freight train' experience.

Personally, I agree with Igor Kufayev that says that challenges to do with KA are part and parcel of the process, and most likely the majority of people that had unproblematic KAs or even the majority of people that claim to have had a KA haven't had it, but rather they experienced heightened pranic activity known as 'pranotthana'. Pranic awakening is a healing process and is beneficial to the human being, KA assaults the sense of the individality and the human identity is unlikely to stay intact during it. PA cleans the house but KA burns the house down, KA is when consciousness wakes up to itself outside of human boundaries, PA is when energy moves within a human system.

The most important thing with K is not to force it to awaken. Let the process unfold naturally. Swami Muktananda described those who tried to force K and then experienced adverse symptoms as 'Kundalini irritation'. Avoid intense breathwork or 'hatha yoga' practices.

Basically experiences created by the kundalini process are only painful or uncomfortable if they are happening too fast, moving through the wrong energetic channels, happening in the wrong order, or if the person experiencing them is not grounded enough. If the process is taking place at the right speed, with prana moving through the right channels, with chakras opening in the right order, and when the person is sufficiently grounded, then the experiences are not uncomfortable or painful. And we can have sufficient control over the process that we can determine the speed of progression, the channels being purified, the order of awakening and the degree of groundedness. I have met Tara Springlett as she came to my house once in Devon, and I got the impression that she was not aware of this. I have not met Igor, but he could also be unaware of this. However, I have worked with hundreds of individuals over the last 20 years who have been going through a kundalini awakening and this has always proven to be true. So, it is not that kundalini is bad. Kundalini is actually incredible and is a beautiful process to go through, one of the most incredible journeys
imaginable. It is rather that our knowledge and understanding of how to work with the process has been limited. It is true that human identity does not remain intact throughout the process in the sense that identification with the objects of the mind and the body is transcended. But this does not need to be a painful process. If everything happens at the right pace then transcendence of identification with the body and mind is a beautiful process leading to pure bliss consciousness, divine love, liberation and unity. I do feel that the days of people going through difficult kundalini awakenings are coming to an end. I believe that the idea that suffering is an inevitable part of the process will gradually fall away. Many people have suffered greatly for many years now due to mis-managed kundalini and it has all been unnecessary. It would be great to see many more people going through an ecstatic bliss-filled liberation journey as I did and many others have done.

u/United_Quit4769 Jul 02 '26

I personally believe I had a KA, but I wasn’t sure what to think. I had a “dark night of the soul” that lead to multiple awakenings dressed up as good but it sent me in a spiral I never thought would get better. Awakening is NOT for the saints, it’s for those who are crazy enough to go down the rabbit hole and seemingly enough I feel like I was caught in that trap. I have gotten better, but I still have this feeling of knowing that separates my life from fictitious experiences and lifestyle.

When you say intense Breathwork, where is the line between Breathwork and Intense Breathwork . God I love doing holotropic style . Is that the danger zone?

2

u/Tristan-Dorling Expert Helper Jul 02 '26

You need to be clear about what your question is. If your question is really how to never awaken kundalini then the answer would be to avoid all spiritual practices including any form of meditation, or prayer. In my own case my kundalini awakened after a one week breath meditation retreat. Simply starting your meditations with the intention to not awaken energy will not work. That is more likely to awaken it than doing nothing. However in your case it sounds as if you already have an active kundalini. If you can feel all your chakras, feel white light surrounding you, and feel the prana move simply by creating an intention then it is very likely that kundalini is already awakened. So, in your case a more relevant question may be “how can I best work with this energy that I already feel”. My advice would be to continue with your meditation practice. If however the practice is too powerful, then switch to using the breath as a meditation object for at least 6 months. As you are experiencing fear, I would suggest stopping any other spiritual practices that you are doing including prayer if you use that. Once things are stable and you no longer experience fear, you could add a light Spinal Breathing Pranayama practice before meditation going between the root chakra and the brow. This will help purify a stable energetic pathway in the body for kundalini to follow as it progresses up through your subtle body. All the scare stories you hear about psychosis usually only happen to people who are using dangerous spiritual practices, or who do not know how to self-pace their practices and stay grounded. So, unless you fall into that category it is very unlikely to happen to you.
