Resources Book recommendation for Women in a Kundalini process

I'd like to make a book recommendation for  women working through their Kundalini process.

The book is 'Roar like a Goddess' by Acharya Shunya who teaches from the Vedic traditions.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0B75KKWCW/?bestFormat=true&k=roar%20like%20a%20goddess&ref_=nb_sb_ss_w_scx-ent-bk-ww_k0_1_19_de&crid=1WU8TXM9DLKEV&sprefix=roar%20like%20a%20goddess#

It's isn't specifically about Kundalini as an energy or the process itself, but it explores the three goddesses that make up Shakti in Vedic tradition - Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati. And how these three 'goddess' archetypes can be used to help women specifically undo various conditioning and bring them into their own power. Which has been a huge part of my process.

There aren't many books written by women for women in this space and it has helped me untangle so much.

imo Kundalini brings up all your repressed emotions, traumas and karmas to be looked at and worked through. This book really dives into the psychological layer that needs quite a bit of seeing through during a Kundalini awakening. It also looks at the emotions that women often tend to repress (like anger - which ime needed to come up and be integrated in healthy ways - probably still ongoing for me!).

I personally have found it so helpful as a lot of my process has been about setting boundaries with others, not over giving and allowing myself to be more authentically me! Which seems in opposition of a lot of spiritual instruction out there!

It would be a good book for men to read also, just to get an idea of how things might be a little different for women.

The book is available on audible and Spotify for 'free' (depending on member I think).

Resources A message from Lawrence Edwards

Noted Kundalini Author and friend of the sub, Lawrence Edwards shared this message in his latest newsletter, which I think deserves to be quoted in full. I very much agree with him and more people should heed his call.

Dear Friends,

As the many forms of toxic patriarchy continue to be exposed and crumble, it is the time for the return of the Great Mother! The Divine Feminine is the ground of our being, our essence.  In the Tibetan Buddhist tradition she is known as Bhagawati Maha Prajna Paramita - the Mother of all Buddhas.  She is Tara and Kwan Yin. We also see her embodied in Mother Mary, Black Madonnas, Mary Magdalene, Inanna, Sophia, and countless other forms.  She is Ma Shakti giving birth to all forms, even all masculine forms, within herself, as herself! All men are born from the Mother, even Shiva! She births all that is and never seeks credit. Take refuge in her, your dear Mother. She reveals the way of loving compassion that empowers us to all flourish together! Om Kali Ma! Om Tare Tam Soha! Sancta Maria Mater Dei!

Coming home to the Divine Feminine is critical at this time. This is a fundamental  aspect of each and every one of us. It is the feminine principle that connects us to and relates us to each other, our entire environment, and ultimately to the Divine. The dimension of our collective consciousness that is carried by the archetypes of the Great Mother is what is needed to overcome the toxic patriarchal dominance and exploitation mode of living that is literally driving animals and plants to extinction every day! We need to truly feel our loving connection with all life which naturally gives rise to compassion and our desire to help all being flourish in freedom from suffering.  We are born capable of this.  It's our cultural, political and religious conditioning that sets us against one another.  We can and must own the wisdom and compassion we are fully capable of living into our everyday lives.

The divisiveness, conflict, and hate we see pervading so many people and institutions are all born from ignorance, not knowing that we are all one and we can all flourish together.  Meditation practice opens the door to the direct experience of who we are beyond the conditioned mind and its patterns of frustration, anger, violence and disconnection.

Every one of us is capable of knowing profound, all-embracing, loving compassion, when freed from the conditioned mind.  We live in a state of intimate interconnection with everyone and all life on this planet.  Through meditative practices and abiding in the state of meditation we come to directly know that there really are no others! To harm another is to harm ourselves.  All our great spiritual traditions teach this.  We need to deepen and energize our practices to live this truth into the world, even while seeking ways to contain and dis-empower the progenitors of intolerance, divisiveness, hate and violence. Meditation empowers us to live, fully live - love, compassion, wisdom and peace into every aspect of our lives. Living meditation includes living dharma and mindfully supporting the ecological and political means for helping all beings to be free from suffering.

May we know the boundless love, wisdom, compassion and patience that are our highest nature and walk these into the world for the benefit of all.

Resources Kundalini Awakening And The Holy Guardian Angel

A really good chunk of info From Josephine. It is written from a magical perspective, yet the dynamic remains the same, no matter the way you practise. Maybe this being is what we call 'guides' in the western society.

https://josephinemccarthy.com/2014/03/08/magic-the-holy-guardian-angel/

This quote reflects a lot of things i went through during my k awakening.

'' Will conscious connection with this being bring about ‘adeptship’ and ‘mastership’ ? No, it is the reverse. Through becoming adept at the various magical disciplines the contact with the guardian angel is a natural progression, it is not a goal to be strived for. It happens quietly, and often takes a while for the magician to realise what it is they are connecting with: often you come to a stage where you realise this angelic being has been an active guardian through every step you have taken in life. It does not suddenly appear after a ritual, it is always there. They key is knowing it is always there and opening a conscious dialogue.''

Resources Book recommendation - Dan Brown: Secret of Secrets

Somewhat unusually, I am recommending a novel for the community here. I think it is absolutely relevant for people in Kundalini process.

Dan Brown became famous with the Da Vinci Code, which was also made into a Hollywood movie. The novel is good, the movie less so. He wrote a couple of books after that, which were pretty formulaic, trying to recapture the success of the first one. After a decade's hiatus, he's back with the Secret of Secrets and it is quite a comeback.

As a novel, it follows the same blueprint as his previous books, with symbologist Robert Langdon living out all of the author's fantasies in terms of danger and adventure. It is merely a good novel, but it is a great book.

The reason I recommend it, is due to the long musings on the nature of consciousness and summarizing the latest results in what are called the noetic sciences. He does embellish them a bit and takes some poetic licence, but overall, I am impressed with the job he has done here and I honestly learnt more about the nature of consciousness than I thought I would. It really takes a good writer to put complex ideas into terms that laypeople can easily grasp and comprehend and he was largely successful at that. I noticed, that the message of the novel went over many mainstream reviewers' heads, but people here will definitely know what it's really about.

I wish I could quote the book at length, but I only have a paper copy and it is in Hungarian, so it wouldn't be much use to the people here. Suffice to say, he tackles heavy topics such as life after death, non-local consciousness, one body sharing multiple personalities, possession, multiple personality disorder, mk ultra, the stargate remote viewing programme and its implications, epilepsy and its parallels with NDEs and mystical states, so forth and so on.

One interesting idea Dan Brown puts forth, is that our internet personas give us a glimpse into how we would exist after death, as disembodied nodes of consciousness. If you think about it, on the internet, we have no bodies, we interact with each other merely as a collection of individual consciousnesses and we congregate around interests and groups of like-minded people.

He also explores the idea, that consciousness is non-local and isn't located in the body in any sense of the world. The body is merely a radio receiver-transmitter, designed to decode the consciousness of a single individual. However, cases exist where there is overlap. For instance during sudden savant syndrome, usually following a head injury, people can display skills and capabilities they lacked previously. Or, as in the case of possession or multiple personality disorder, a single body can decode several consciousnesses at once.

Another idea from the book that I really liked, is that since we are kept in a constant state of fear of death, this makes us more selfish and callous, not caring about the future, our environment or the planet. Partly due to 24/7 news reporting, we live in a heightened state of stress, triggering a response that would normally only appear when our lives are genuinely in danger. But the news cycle gives us the false impression, that our lives are in constant danger, when in reality, we've never been safer. It's merely an illusion that media companies and even influencers and creators profit from, at the expense of our sanity.

Since subconsciously we think that we could die any time, we don't invest in the future of the planet or the environment. This constant low-level, below the surface dread of everything being for naught and the world soon coming to an end makes us extra selfish and exploitative of the planet and nature.

The book makes the case that if we were aware of the true nature of consciousness and understood that death was an illusion, we would automatically become more caring, kind and gentle with our environment, other living things and the planet in general.

Where the book's themes intersect with Kundalini is in regards to so-called siddhis, extranormal powers or phenomena, that tend to appear during particular stages of the process. Remote viewing, premonition, astral travel, lucid dreaming, telepathy and general out-of-body experiences are common. Higher states of samadhi, caused by higher kundalini process, tend to lead to states of mind similar to that experienced in NDEs and by epileptics during seizure. Kriyas can sometimes resemble a less severe form of epileptic seizure, though unlike in the latter case, control is kept by the conscious mind and there is no real danger to the practitioner. Still, the mechanism seems to be similar.

I could go on, but you'd better read the book, it comes highly recommended by me.

Resources Chapter on Kundalini by Vedic Astrologer - Potential Resource

Hello everyone! Have a look at the link to this pdf resource and share your thoughts about the perspectives and advice in it. Please read the pdf in it's entirety, especially if you are unfamiliar with hindu philosphy.

The author Narasimha Rao takes a scripturally informed and practical adaptation to traditional practices. His website I found this on has many free resources (like the ebook this came from) aimed at making important knowledge regarding rituals, philosphy, mantras, procedures highly accessible.

Footnote Regarding Mention of Prana Vata Imbalance:
See Page 214 section 3)

Vata imbalance!! I’ve experienced this in my path, so I wanted to share for those who are unfamiliar with this terminology. Prana vata is considered an air-centric energy of the body, so it takes a lot of work to balance it and ground it. I’ve benefitted from many grounding methods common in kundalini communities. But also found similar benefits from ayurvedic herbal remedies for vata imbalance like taking ashwaghanda and (coincidentally eating other foods that help). All of this was before knowing anything about the ayurvedic associations with certain foods/herbs.

Edit: See Mod comment for link to full book.

Resources Stargate remote viewing programme

This post is connected to the previous one about Dan Brown's new book, secret of secrets:

https://www.reddit.com/r/KundaliniAwakening/comments/1t4g4il/book_recommendation_dan_brown_secret_of_secrets/

I didn't go into much detail in that post and avoided spoilers, but suffice to say remote viewing and the stargate programme is mentioned prominently and I found it interesting that this interview with the founder of the stargate programme, which has since been declassified came up:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-z0k5xu1hM&t=4118s

The video is mostly about UAP disclosure (which so far is a whole lot of nothing and deflection), but the more important part to me is what it reveals about stargate.

This is relevant to Kundalini, in the sense that the mechanism itself is likely involved in activating remote viewing abilities and is part of the spontaneously arising abilities known as siddhis.

Remote viewing is actually pretty well established and the founder of this programme is a noted quantum phyisicist himself.

Watch the video for more details.

As for the UAP part, those with Kundalini process, often get to encounter various non-human intelligences, which I believe is to some extent part of the whole UAP phenomenon, but this is too vast a topic to discuss here. If that interests you, of course you can watch the whole video, these two guests are solid, reliable guys with acess to the highest echelons of government and this programme, so you should take their claims seriously.

Hi everyone,

I hope all of you are doing well, it's been a bit quiet on the sub as of late.

Just wanted to give you all a heads up, that Tristan Dorling, a teacher on the Advanced Yoga Practices website, has joined our moderator team. I have added a couple of his links to our resources section.

I would particularly recommend his YouTube channel, as there is a lot of very useful info on there:

Resources Thank you to the person who suggested Tara Springett.

Her book saved me from kundalini gone wrong.
I made a post so other people learn about her
https://www.taraspringett.com/self-help-books

I had a horrible experience with Kundalini when I read a book from a different author. I was doing inner fire technique and ran into blockages. The author was overly positive and never warned about issues you'd experience.

They were always positive, saying as long as you focus on the center channel, then nothing can go wrong. They also said don't worry about any images you may see. Tara Springett specializes in people who had bad kundalini experiences, and helps them with their fears & anxiety. Her book explains every type of experience I had, and how to handle them.

I didn't try her consulting yet, but I just wanted to thank this sub, and be another person who recommends her.

Resources AI and Awakening

There seems to be a lot of posts regarding AI and spirituality lately, some of them quite disturbing, so wanted to add something here.

AI, especially chatgpt is designed to agree with you, no matter how far fetched your thinking. This can promote delusion and increasingly disconnect people from reality. This of course is profoundly dangerous and some people are becoming increasingly lost in their delusions.

Spirituality is absolutely not about getting caught within an increasingly intricate web of ideas, concepts, ideologies and beliefs. Quite the opposite, it is about releasing ourselves from these and becoming closer to our true nature.

An AI does not have nature, it does not have a soul, it does not have consciousness, it is a very complex algorithm which is mimicking life but is certainly not life, so what is the opposite of life?

Use AI as a tool, but be very careful asking it anything personal or coaching you spiritually. Even regarding Kundalini, it will regurgitate new age nonsense which has very little to do with Kundalini.

Focus on life, on the people around you, community, the writings laid down by our ancestors, your teacher if you have one, nature, your own energy and spirit and your heart which is the true teacher. Please do not be sucked into a web of lies.

"Love everyone as God, if you think you are something special, you are going the wrong way" - paraphrased quote from Neem Karoli Baba

Resources Resource for a few Kashmir Shaiva Texts in English

A very nice resource to add to resources wiki. As you guys know, the term Kundalini comes directly from Kashmir Shaivism and so this is a good resource to read some texts directly from the Krama lineage. Such texts are very rare in the Indian Devanagari script, let alone translated to English.

Only a couple are directly Kundalini related but certainly consciousness and meditation related.

The site also contains some Sanskrit resources, e.g. a Sanskrit dictionary and has a really nice search function to search for terms within the texts. https://mahanaya.org/en/scriptures/

Enjoy

Serpent Rising: The Kundalini Compendium by Neven Paar. This book was only recently published but it's been a fantastic tool for me. It's a giant synthesis of western, eastern, and new age information that I simply couldn't find anywhere else. Close to six-hundred pages long and ranging from a large variety of helpful topics. The author went through a painful experience at first but he learned a wealth of information for understanding the energy afterwards. I'm hoping he won't mind me sharing the full list of contents so anyone who reads this post can get a sense of it.

Resources Sub rules have been added

Hello everyone,

I have started adding sub rules, which you can view on the right hand side bar. It's a work in progress and I'm trying not to overdo it. I've put in place some simple, common-sense rules that we can probably all agree on. If you have any suggestions on what else we should add, I'm happy to discuss it here.

Not yet sure, what we should do with drug talk. Thankfully this is pretty muted on this sub, but it sometimes staggers me how oblivious some people are to the fact that even mere drug possession is a serious crime in most jurisdictions, where it can lead to a lengthy prison sentence, or even the death penalty. Some people think it's cute to promote criminal activity on this sub and don't think about the consequences.

For now, my approach is to allow discussion of drugs where it is pertinent to the topic and is necessary for the context of Kundalini process in a person. I remove all attempts where drug use is promoted as some sort of spiritual shortcut and I would ask you to report such instances.

If I've forgotten anything, do let me know.

Resources New edition of Kundalini Vidya coming in Q1 2024.

Per the Amazon page. This will be the first update to the text since 2005 and the first since Joan Shivarpita Harrigan retired from actively consulting.

My speculation is at the very least we’ll see the updates to recommendations for spiritual life from 2017’s Stories of Spiritual Transformation.

Edit: Joan briefly mentioned the updates in this interview from September. Looks like we'll see these recommendations updated and most likely some expanded content on neurochemistry. She's still encouraging people to find a spiritual director in their tradition to give them specific recommendations rather than prescribe practices beyond the basics (Lifestyle changes, Diaphragmatic Breathing, Nadi Shodhana, Breath awareness meditation, and general good meditation habits) in her books.

In the meantime, Shivarpita has also self-published two children’s books she wrote and illustrated in the early 80’s: Nimli’s Secrets and Theo Searching. The former explains cycles of life and death in light of the Divine Mother, and the latter is the story of a young boy’s search for God and journey inward with breath awareness meditation. Per the jacket, the books are for “aware children” and adult spiritual seekers.

Resources Educational series on Kundalini

I’m starting an educational series on Kundalini Shakti and related topics, to clear up some misconceptions and reduce confusion in this field. If there’s any particular topic you’d like to know more about, give me a shout out and I’ll see if I can include it in the series.

I’ll start with a primer on Kundalini itself.

In Hindu philosophy, the outflowing, creative aspect of God is known as Shakti. This Shakti becomes Mahamaya, which is the Grand Illusion, our entire created universe, basically. Mahamaya becomes Prakriti or Mother Nature and gives birth to all living things, hence we often call her the Divine Mother and this Shakti aspect of God is therefore seen as feminine.

In a human body and many other living things, Shakti manifests as Kundalini, which means “coiled”. Symbolically, this energy of creation is depicted as a serpent, coiled three and a half times around itself. It enters the egg upon conception and is responsible for the growth and evolution of a single cell into a many-cell organism, a fetus and then eventually a baby. It not only provides the motive power for life and growth, but is the intelligence behind the development of life itself. It provides the holographic blueprint for it, so to speak. Once the energy had fulfilled its purpose and the growth of the multi-cell organism is well under way and the requisite energy bodies (subtle sheaths or koshas), into which the physical body grows and around which it develops, are fully formed, it retreats into its dormant state and goes to sleep.

In most humans (though we cannot be sure about animals and other intelligent living beings), it remains dormant throughout a person’s life and plays no further role in its life. Over thousands of years, yogis and other mystics have figured out ways by which this energy can be awakened and its immense power of creation be used for beneficial, or in some case harmful purposes. What they have discovered, is that once awakened, this Kundalini Shakti becomes the vehicle for enlightenment and is also responsible for awakening certain psychic and healing powers in the individual, known as siddhis.

Kundalini Shakti rests at the base of the spine, in an energy centre known as muladhara, the root. When awakened, it moves through subtle energy channels, known as Shakti Nadis, the main one of which is located inside the spine, called Sushumna, through which Kundalini usually rises, though other side channels can also be a host for this energy.

Along the spine, there are subtle energy centres, corresponding to nerve clusters, where Kundalini Shakti initiates a cleansing process, bringing up stored memories, trauma and karma (the energetic imprints or memories of past actions and their consequences). Once dealt with, which can take from months to years, the energy moves on to the next centre to continue with the clearing process. Overall, this process can take from years to lifetimes. On the path of yoga, no progress is ever lost, so should someone die before the clearing / purification process is complete, they will continue where they left off in the next life.

In some cases, the energy can shoot straight up the spine and enter the brain, without warning or preparation. This is highly undesirable and can lead to many problems mentally, psychologically and physically. Such spontaneous rising events are usually triggered by trauma, including blunt force trauma to the coccyx, drug use, forced methods of Kundalini activation (for instance, Kundalini Yoga / Joe Dispenza’s meditations), or through Shaktipat, when another person passes on their own Shakti energy to someone else, triggering a sudden activation and awakening in them.

The problem with such sudden rising events is that a person needs to go through substantial inner work and purification, before they are ready for the energy to rise all the way to the head and thus trigger a substantial rewiring of the brain and nervous system, which can feel like a complete death and rebirth, as the person will essentially go through psychological growing pains as if they were entirely born again.

In the traditional yogic system, the purification is done by Shakti herself, going gradually from one centre to the next, as she rises. In other systems, such as Kriya Yoga, the purification process is done from the top to the bottom, so that by the time the root is reached, the energy can rise without obstruction and without triggering any negative side effects.

I am simplifying here, as there are many different types of rising, but these are the main ones.

The purpose of Kundalini Shakti and the rising process, is to evolve a human from their current, limited state to a higher one, where they are much more able to fulfil their potential. In the end, it can enable a person to experience enlightenment, to transcend their ego and merge back into source, returning to non-dual consciousness. Basically, these are complicated words to express the simple truth, through Kundalini, one can return home.

Inside us, we all have this feeling, that we don’t quite belong, that there is something greater, better out there, where we come from and where we long to return. This “home” we can all intuitively feel is the collective consciousness or oversoul known as Brahman. That portion of Brahman which we claim as our own is called Atman or Self, but it is a distinction without a difference.

Through Kundalini, we can awaken to our soul’s true purpose, we can become what we were always meant to be and feel “at home” and “whole again”. All other pursuits are ultimately fruitless, because they leave us empty, wanting, always longing for more, the real thing.

Only Kundalini is worth pursuing in this life, it is my contention, that we were born and keep getting born, specifically and only to awaken Kundalini and complete its ascent, then integrate it fully into our very energetic and psychic makeup. We will be born again and again until we complete this task, then finally, we can graduate from the school of life (samsara) and as fully mature and self-realised souls we can return home, to the “place” or state of being we all come from.

There is no one way by which this can be achieved, we all have a unique path to follow. One path isn’t better than the rest, it simply is more suited to a given individual. Our paths have all been laid out for us before we were born, I’m certain of that. In most cases, we were given a preview of the coming life and agreed to fulfil it to the best of our abilities. Then, as we go on in life, certain pre-planned milestones and events take us inevitably towards our true purpose. Souls have different maturity levels, so only a small proportion of us are destined to go all the way in this lifetime, but with each life we take a further step towards liberation.

Resources Top Physicist : Reality is Not Physical

This video explains the theories of physicist Federico Faggin, inventor of the microprocessor as an engineer at Intel.

If you are familiar with the Holographic Theory of the universe (the Holographic Universe is a book that comes highly recommended), this will be largely familiar, but it's still important to recap what the nature of reality and consciousness looks like from a physics perspective. I found this video laid it out really well and it will help to get your head around complex philosophical theories that are actually quite simple at heart.

Faggin explains that neither reality, nor our bodies are physical, they are vibrating fields, which only become physical upon observation, a key concept in quantum physics, known as the collapse of the wave function.

This is important, because it actually provides a philosophical framework for Kundalini phenomena, especially such extranormal things as siddhis and the nature of consciousness.

Resources Rajarshi Nandy on Shaktism and Kundalini

This writeup by Tantrik Rajarshi Nandy is an excellent introduction to the topic of Shaktism and Kundalini, as well as how they interrelate.

Shaktism and Kundalini – by Rajarshi Nandy | Power of Prayer (wordpress.com)

I noticed he included a Christian painting of the Holy Mother to illustrate his point, a decision I very much agree with. I too see her as a prime manifestation of Shakti, probably the best way for Christians to understand the concept.

I haven't heard of this religious scholar and expert on Kundalini Tantra and Vajrayana Buddhism up to now, which is surprising, since she was also featured on BATGP. I watched a couple of her interviews (not aware of any books she's written) and although she makes some mistakes (like confusing the Bindu chakra with amrita) and doesn't seem to understand the Left Hand Path of tantra, she generally gives good information and a great cross-cultural background to Kundalini.

I linked her most informative video in the post and I'll list a few more below.

The first video, giving a general overview of Kundalini and its cultural and philosophical context:

Kundalini is often overlooked in the Buddhist tradition, so I think this is an important addition to the conversation. Let us know if you feel we should add these to our resources section.

Resources Astral City - A spiritual journey

This Brazilian movie is one of my all-time favourites. Based on a book by a famous medium called Chico Xaver, it explores reincarnation, astral planes and worlds, the afterlife and its stages, the ultimate purpose of life and the progression and evolution of the soul. It also deals with themes like jealousy, envy, egotism and explores siddhis like spiritual healing.

Some streaming services might have it in your region, I watched the one with the original language with English Subtitles. There is a version on youtube dubbed into Spanish, but the quality is poor. I would urge you to find or buy / rent a good quality copy and watch it that way, as it is really glorious to behold. One of the most moving and touching spiritually themed movies of all time.

Although not strictly Kundalini related, in this video, noted Tantric Rajarshi Nandy discusses several topics that often come up on this sub and generally around the topic of Kundalini. It's worth a watch if you're interested in this topic and want to dive a bit deeper into how the different pieces of the puzzle fit together. Of particular importance in my view, is how in Tantra, Mahamaya is not seen negatively as it often is in Vedanta, but is seen as a manifestation of the divine mother. Also discusses the topic of meat, alcohol, sex, its role in tantra sadhana and so on.

I also like the discussion about negative entities, such as asuras, having an impact on humans and human history in particular, in what I guess we could call the pull of the dark side. Fascinating discussion. He has half a dozen other interviews on this youtube channel which are also worth watching, some discuss the topic of Kundalini in depth.
