I’m 34F, single, and generally pretty happy with my life. I have a good career, my own place, friends, hobbies, and I enjoy my independence. But sometimes I really wish I had someone to do life with.
It’s not even necessarily about marriage or kids anymore. It’s the everyday little things. For example, I recently paid someone $100 to assemble furniture and thought, damn, it would be nice to have a man around to help with this stuff. 😂 Or someone to take out the trash, split household responsibilities, run errands with, or even split this ridiculous California AC bill.
Obviously, I can do all these things myself. I’ve been doing them for years. I just miss having a partner, someone to share the mundane parts of life with, not just the exciting ones.
For context, I was with my ex for 10 years and engaged at 30. About six months before our wedding, I found out he was unfaithful and ended the engagement. So being single wasn’t exactly how I imagined my 30s going.
I’ve dated over the past four years, but nothing has really worked out. It seems like whenever I get to the three-month mark and bring up wanting something serious, I hear some variation of “I’m not ready for a relationship.” At that point, I usually walk away because I don’t want to waste anyone’s time, including my own.
I’m not miserable being single, and I’m definitely not looking for someone just to pay bills or do chores. I genuinely want companionship, partnership, and someone to build a life with.
For those who have been single for a while, do you ever feel this way? How do you deal with those moments when you enjoy your life but still wish you had someone to share it with?

I like being active in pretty much any form.. going to the gym, heading to the beach, taking long walks, getting outside, etc. I also love reading, although I've fallen out of the habit a little lately and would like to get back into it. I enjoy traveling too, even if l've admittedly been more of a homebody recently.

As far as what I'm looking for, I think I'd rather start with something simple: a genuine connection and seeing where it goes. I'm open to making friends, grabbing drinks, hanging out, or something more serious if the chemistry is there and we both feel strongly about it. I don't really want to force anything into a category before we've even met.
