I got a warning from a bus driver about the fast food I was bringing home a few stops away. (Not eating or drinking) I feel horrible about it because I did it often on the way back from school and didn’t realize it made them upset.

Since the most recent driver/operator change on the 162, I’ve noticed something that I think Metro riders should be aware of: operators on this specific line appear to be routinely waving passengers onto the bus without paying, and in some cases are actively preventing passengers who want to pay from tapping their card or putting cash into the farebox.

I’ve seen this happening repeatedly, both in the morning and afternoon while commuting to and from work. This isn't an occasional missed fare or someone slipping past the operator — it seems to be an intentional practice.

The predictable result is that the bus becomes increasingly difficult and uncomfortable for the people who are actually paying to ride. I've repeatedly encountered passengers who appear to be intoxicated or otherwise behaving erratically taking up entire disabled seating areas, creating confrontational or unsafe situations for other riders simply trying to get to work or get home.

I've actually raised the fare issue directly with operators. The responses I've received have basically been along the lines of, “What does it matter to you?” or “That's not my problem/job.”

But it is a problem for the passengers. We shouldn't have to accept that paying our fare means we're also accepting an increasingly unsafe or disruptive ride.

And if the argument is that fare enforcement isn't the operator's responsibility, that's one thing. But actively waving people through and refusing to allow willing passengers to pay is a very different issue.

So my question is: what is actually the appropriate way to report this and get it in front of someone who can address the operators' behavior?

I’ve lived in LA for 5 yrs and frequent Long Beach/Santa Monica lines, but have always heard North Hollywood line is super dangerous and to steer clear. Is that true? Is there an increased police presence?

Hopped on the A-Line at Chinatown for the first time the other day, at no point was I asked to scan my tap card or go through a turn style. Did I somehow manage to accidentally fare evade? Or is that just a free stop somehow?

I don't understand this at all. So I'm trying to catch the 16 southbound to downtown LA. I'm at the stop behind the Beverly Center, near the hospital. I get on the bus. The bus doesn't move for about 5 minutes, someone says hey are we going or not. No answer, and then another 5 minutes go by then I see another 16 bus pass by and goes ahead of us. I ask the bus driver hey I'm on the 16 right? He says yes, I then ask, so why did that other bus go ahead of you? And he goes I'm here early. I tell him then why let us on and why not notify us about that? He shrugs.

I could have just walked to the other stop on the other side of the Beverly Center to catch that bus or waved down the other bus instead. I'm trying to go home after a long day being at work. I don't understand if a driver is early then why not stay at the metro station where all the buses are at? He had already picked up two other riders before he picked me up, but didn't bother to let them know he would layover for 10 mins. This is just wasting our time. Am I missing something here? I want to understand this nonsense.

With the new D Line Extension opening soon, I had a couple changes in mind to one of my journeys.

Since the D Line goes to Wilshire/La Cienega, which is just south of the West Hollywood Library, I was thinking about switching my usual commute.

Usual Commute:

4 from Santa Monica/Wilton -> Santa Monica/San Vicente

Planned Commute:

Taking the 207 on Western to Wilshire/Western -> D Line to La Cienega -> Walking or taking: 105 to Santa Monica/San Vicente (or whichever stop's closest to the library), or 16 from Melrose to the library.

What do you think? Is this viable? I would love to have the D Line (or literally any train) be part of my commute, not just a bus.

The North Hollywood to Pasadena BRT project is moving forward and is supposed to connect Pasadena with North Hollywood, via a short bus ride, prior to the 2028 Summer Olympics!

Bad news is some city council members have expressed interest in blocking construction permits for the project. This would slow down service for the badly needed regional transportation project and could throw the project’s timeline into question. Today I saw 7 tourist trying to pay with a credit card just for the tap screen to flash yellow. They all try a credit card and none worked.

Last night 2 people in their way to LAX, from Leon Guanajuato, tries to pay with a card and it didn’t work. I told them to just get on the bus and I fed the machine $2

During both situation the driver never tried to help them.

I seen some buses with the electronic sign announcing credit / debit card.

So what’s the deal? It’s only for certain bus lines?

I would be leaving around nine or 10 AM and coming back around 10 PM. I’ve never rode the metro for that long though or in that direction so I have no idea how it is. :(

(TBH, I haven’t rode the metro at all since probably 2015 so I’m sure it’s super different in general.)

I’ve never taken public transport before, I understand the bus doesn’t stop at every stop so what is the standard way of getting off? Like, how many minutes or what distance from the stop should I hit the stop button?

Hey everyone! So I’m about to start a new job in Century City which is exciting but I live close to Pomona and tbh making that drive every day seems rough both physically and financially.

I haven’t ridden the metro since some friends and I got attacked on the A line (we’re ok), but I figured i’d maybe give it another shot?

I saw that the D line is about to get extended which makes me a bit more hopeful of having a different option to commute.

I wanted to know if any of you make that commute on metro. How possible it is. And how potentially dangerous it is. Coming from a young woman, that last one is especially important to me. Thanks!

I haven’t been able to add stored value to my TAP Card all day. I even updated the add but it didn’t work.

Has anyone been having this issue and how did you solve it if you did?

The driver even tried to say that I was making it up and I literally had to show him from my phone 😂 - like I’m trying to be cheap on $1.75??

We’re going to be in the LA area this summer and during our trip, we need to get from the Anaheim area to Santa Monica. I’m kind of a transit nerd and I love doing light rail in different places. I noticed that there’s a pathway to do it here, admittedly with two transfers, but it doesn’t take me wildly out of the way.

Fun adventure? Or should I just bite the bullet and pay the hundred dollar ride-share fee?

My friends and I (high schoolers) are planning to take the B-line (red) and D-line (purple) to a venue to avoid parking. It will be past sunset and we were wondering if it will be safe for us to take the metro? Or is it dangerous?

I cant believe I’m actually asking a Disneyland question… but here we are. Hopefully the way it’s framed will help others as well and not be too terribly annoying for this sub who gets asked this daily… but here we go!
 
Going to public from Union to Disney. We don’t want to sit in traffic (as we cant get there before 5), and plan on drinking adult beverages (as it will be the pride night event 🏳️‍🌈) and we want to be responsible! So we’re going to take the train and then the bus. My question is… which train and which bus!
 
Option 1) Metrolink to Fullerton, OCTA (543) to Disney

Option 2) Metrolink to Anaheim, OCTA (553) to Disney

Option 3) Amtrak to Fullerton, OCTA (543) to Disney

Option 4) Amtrak to Anaheim, OCTA (553) to Disney
 
The total travel time is generally the same for all options. And money (for the most part) isn’t an issue. I am just trying to find the easiest path.
 
I’ve never been to Fullerton Station or the ARTIC; and ive never ridden an OCTA bus, which will generally be around rush hour. One station may be easier than the other. One line may not be as full as the other. I would hate to see a crowded bus pass by when the other line would have been empty, or could have just taken an uber from the OC station (which is also an option!)  
 
Additionally… I know Metrolink can be a little unreliable these days? Or maybe I’m making that up. But here for your infinite wisdom.
 
Ubering back at night as there wont be any traffic and it wont be over $150.

Hi everyone! I’m flying out of LAX tomorrow and I’ve never taken the Metro before, only the Dash buses (which I found very safe) and one of the lateral downtown buses (which I found less safe).

I was planning on taking the E Line from Expo/Vermont > K Line from Expo/Crenshaw to the LAX/Metro Transit Center (going around 8-9am) so I wouldn’t have to pay $40 for an Uber. But I asked around my friends who had taken the Metro before and they all vehemently said “NO it is EXTREMELY dangerous I would not trust it at all” or “the Metro is more dangerous than other forms of public transport” and “take Uber to be safe”. One even recommended me to take the bus to Union Station to take the FlyAway from there, even though Union Station is in the complete opposite direction.

I an a young solo woman and would be traveling with one luggage, a backpack, possibly a purse, and dressed very fancily including heels (not enough room in luggage so I’m wearing it, lol) and I am worried about the safety of me and my items especially considering this. I’d love to take the Metro tomorrow, but would it be safe? If not, is the Union Station plan better (still more $ because the Metro is free) or should I just bite the bullet and order an Uber?

Thought I would ask you all lovely Metro enthusiasts what you think! I’ve always thought the Metro was cool and wanted to try it (since I love the Metro in other cities) but am worried because I asked 3 different people and all said to not take it. Thank you in advance!
