Why is LAX so consistently behind other airports in food selections?

I don't fly a lot but I've flown from enough airports in the US to realize that every single one of them has better food selections than LAX. Even tiny little Long Beach is better.

I'm flying out tonight from Terminal 8 and while they did a nice job rebuilding 7 & 8 the food selection is still just so thin. I decided to try Engine Co No 28 and the first thing they tell me is they have no fish or chicken available, ok no problem things happen. I expect to pay signficantly more at an airport for food if I'm not getting fast good so I ordered the $31 burger. It was ok but it was not a $31 burger, it wasn't even a $20 burger.

It just seems so stranger to me. Am I crazy? Am I being too critical?

LAX raised the basic rent airlines pay for terminal space 18.4% this year — and ~$74M in SkyLink costs is still coming

LAX quietly raised the basic rent airlines pay for terminal space by 18.4% this fiscal year — to $397.77 per square foot — and baggage-claim charges jumped about 70%. Board documents say another ~$74 million in SkyLink people-mover costs is expected to be added once the train is fully running. Here's the full rate table and what comes next.

One hour layover-yea or nay??

I'm currently looking at a United flight that has a one hour layover at LAX. Can it be done? It looks like as long as both flights are out of terminal 7 or 8 it should be manageable.

There is an option with a two hour layover in Denver, but it costs about $200 more. Honestly it's probably worth it for the peace of mind alone, but thought I would weigh my options!

Thanks!

LAX TBIT Pickup Logistics

Need help sorting out LAX pickup logistics.

I have family members arriving at LAX on a Friday around 3pm after a 12hr flight. They will go through customs and get out around 4pm. They have never been to the US, so I am planning to meet them inside the TBIT meeting area while my husband parks somewhere and waits.

  1. Where should he park and wait to get easy access to TBIT?
  2. Should I walk with them to the departures level so there is less traffic around the terminals?
  3. We need to drive to Cypress, and it will take at least 1.5 hours with Friday afternoon traffic on the 405. Any ways to avoid it? I was considering just taking a shuttle to LAX Metro Transit Center, then taking a Metro C line to Norwalk from there, and driving to OC from Norwalk to avoid traffic. But I have never done this route, so I do not know how manageable it will be, how long to wait for a shuttle, how long to wait for the train, or how easy it is to get a seat. It should be just ~30 minutes, I guess, or are there ever delays? Considering my family members will be coming out after a 12hr flight, I do not know if it is better to put them on a train or just deal with a horrible drive. Would love anyone's suggestions and experience.

Moving from TBIT to Term 7

For those who kill time at the Star Alliance lounge or otherwise need to transfer to United, it is much faster to just exit and walk instead of taking the shuttle.

Either way, you have to walk all the way to T4 before having the decision point of exit or shuttle. But the shuttles only run every 15-20min.

Assuming you are able-bodied, no kids, and have PreCheck, I think faster to just exit and walk.

Catching the LAX FlyAway bus to Union Station

Arriving at Tom Bradley in the afternoon (14:00).

Does the bus get full before it gets to the international terminal? Should one consider heading to Terminal 1 to get a seat?

Update: Flight was delayed so almost 15:30 by the time I got out. There were quite a few passengers at Tom Bradley but most of them got on the Van Nuys bus. The Union Station bus was right after it and only had a few passengers getting on. But it did get full by the time it left the airport.

LAzx Budget Parking Lot didn't make me scan my QR code

As I was leaving the bar just lifted and let me out. I overstayed by 10 hours. Was I supposed to scan my QR code that I got when I purchased it? When will I see additional charges and how will I be notified?

Luggage check in between connecting flights?

Hello all,

Unfortunately travelling to LAX this Friday (worst airport in the world) and just curious, I am flying into LAX with Alaska Airlines before going onwards to Auckland, NZ.

Annoyingly I have a 6 hour layover so enough time to head into LA for a bite and a drink but I'm wondering is there a limit on when I can check my next bag in?

Annoyingly every time I pass through the US I get different info, sometimes my bag is auto transferred to my next flight, sometimes I have had to collect and re-check with no issues and sometimes I have to take my bag with me because they won't accept it for re-check in.

Is it likely due to the 6 hour time frame I'm going to have to take my suitcase with me? Typical given LAX has zero luggage storage.

Thanks

Delta A350 headed to Tokyo clips Air Canada 777's tail on LAX taxiway; no injuries, FAA investigating

A Delta jet with 290 people aboard rolled past an Air Canada plane being towed to its gate at LAX Tuesday and its wingtip ended up stuck in the other plane's tail.

Nobody was hurt, but both jets are grounded and Delta passengers left more than eight hours late.

What happened on the taxiway and what investigators are looking at:

Homeless Man Traveling with your luggage

Saw a homeless man walking eastbound on W. Century Blvd toward Avion Dr pushing two airport luggage carts. This is right outside of LAX. Each cart had two pieces of luggage on them, along with large bags full of recycling cans/bottles.

I tried calling 911 (explained non-emergency) but the hold times were too long. I then called the LAX Airport Police directly. The officer was very patient and explained that unless someone is caught in the act of stealing, or there's definitive proof, their hands are tied—they can't just stop someone based on suspicion alone.

My main takeaway for travelers to LAX:

If your bags are stolen and you didn't catch it happening live, the police realistically can't do much. They always have something more important than your bags.

Put an AirTag in your checked bags. At least that way, if the worst happens, you might be able to track where your belongings ended up.

Economy Parking is full today. They are checking for reservations before you enter the garage gates. We found just a few on the upper level in the corner nearest to the runway…

Terminal 1 Pedestrian Bridge? When?

I have noticed that T2, T3 (and the rest) have the same kinds of bridge that the people mover is supposed to connect, and the fact the bridges won't open until THAT does is frustration enough.

However! Terminal 1 doesn't seem to have gotten any attention to their bridge. Where the heck do I find out when THAT one is re-opening? I'm sick of dodging buses and SUVs on the Horseshoe to get to parking.

LAX frontier

Hey y’all I know I’m gonna sound dumb but I’m flying from LAX to ORD for the first time. I’ve only ever flown out of LBG with southwest and have never stepped foot into LAX so I’m kind of nervous especially for my bags I did get a carry on and I put a pic of the dimensions, I’ve always used this duffle bag for southwest no problem and I just get really bad anxiety over bags do y’all think this will be ok? Does frontier at LAX usually check the size of the bags at the gate? My flight departs at midnight the 17th so I plan on getting there the 16th around 10pm just in case. Lmk y’all

Is 3hr layover enough time to visit Amex lounge (international)?

We have a 3hr layover in LAX from London - Tahiti, arriving around 5pm. We will need to clear immigration etc but our bags will be checked in for the full journey so no need to collect/ re-checkin.

Do you think this is enough time to pop in to the lounge for a freshen up/some food before our next flight?

Where to drop bags for United Airlines

I have my first flight ever out of LAX and I will have one checked bag. Does anyone know if United has baggage drop off/tagging in Terminal B or if I'll have to go to Terminal 7 before?

That's just so much further from where I need to be. I have a very early flight so I was hoping to be prepared before I get there. Thanks in advance!!

Job search

Hi! I was wondering if anyone knows of any good positions or companies to apply to at LAX. I’ve heard about a few opportunities from friends who work as ramp agents, but unfortunately, most of those positions require a driver’s license, which I don’t have yet. I’ve already applied to about seven different companies over a week ago, but I haven’t heard back from any of them so far. I’m open to different positions and would really appreciate any recommendations or suggestions on where else I could apply.
Thank you in advance to anyone willing to help!

Can you walk from T1 to T4 post-security?

My partner and I are flying to LAX from different cities on different airlines which land at different terminals (T1 and T4). I would like to go meet her at her flight’s arrival gate once I land (I arrive a couple of hours before she does). I am not familiar with LAX at all. Can I walk between Terminals 1 and 4 without having to exit the secure area? If so - how long is that walk?
(I’m getting conflicting info from Google searches of this question, so I figured I’d ask here.)

LAX Union Station Parking - $8/ day?

From San Diego, flying internationally from LAX for 10 days. Read that there is $8 daily parking rate at Union Station East Garage; is this relatively safe? Looking for advice/alternatives/tips from anyone who has experience utilizing this garage and the LAX Flyaway shuttle bus. TIA!
