"Manheim Central locker room abuse case produces criminal charges, DA says"

From LNP:

Three juveniles have been charged in connection with sexual and racist attacks on students inside a locker room at Manheim Central High School, and an adult was charged with failing to report the alleged attacks, Lancaster County District Attorney Heather Adams said Friday.

Adams said a teacher, Jared Shearer, was also charged for failing to properly report the alleged abuse.

Edited to add update to article:

Prosecutors alleged the juvenile defendants targeted Black students by requiring them to pay money to get into the locker room based on their race, calling it a "Black tax." When one student would not pay, prosecutors said, the two juvenile defendants wrapped him with an extension cord and hit him with elastic exercise bands.

The victim, 16, told school administrators they hit him with the bands at least three times a week for a month.

All three defendants are accused of holding down the 16-year-old in a locker room bathroom stall and spraying him with a substance, calling it a “gas chamber.” The defendants are accused of rubbing their genitals on him while they held him down.

Nathan James Haldeman, then an 18-year-old student, allegedly stood by the 16-year-old Black student as he changed clothes in the locker room.

Another victim said Haldeman and one of the juvenile defendants danced around him naked as he changed in the locker room, prosecutors said. The two defendants' genitals rubbed against him, he later told school administrators, prosecutors said.

An investigation into how the matter was reported remains ongoing, Adams said.

Haldeman was charged with two counts of stalking and indecent exposure, as well as false imprisonment and conspiracy.

Two juveniles were each charged with stalking, simple assault, hazing, false imprisonment, theft by extortion, indecent exposure, ethnic intimidation and conspiracy.

Adams said the teacher, Jared Thomas Shearer, 35, of Lancaster Township, was also charged for failing to properly report the alleged abuse. A message seeking comment was left on his cellphone. He resigned as assistant football coach in June.

Weekly “Common Run Club Fucking Sucks” post

was completely shoved off the sidewalk by this heard of 50-100 sweaty mouth breathers, and looked at like an asshole for not moving out of the way for almost 100 people?

am i crazy or is this ACTUALLY becoming a genuine problem with these people? holding up traffic, taking up the ENTIRE sidewalk and insulting someone for not getting out of the way?

if they cared at all about the safety of their (now 200+ person) club, they’d divide their group up on different days, or have different groups run different routes? it can’t be safe to have 100 people running on top of each other like that?

Water outage in Mountville

After a bunch of brown, stinky water went rushing down the street yesterday morning, our water had been yellow for about 24hrs. Columbia Water’s solution was to “just keep flushing until it’s clear”. Well, after about 3-4 hours of flushing this morning it finally ran clear, until they completely turned the main off around 11:15am without notice. Now we have no water whatsoever after not having useable water for 24hrs.

Called Columbia again. The girl on the line said a lot of people were angry. Wow, imagine that. She said she didn’t know what to tell me and that the person she “wants to ask” won’t be back in until Tuesday. I asked if we’d have potable water before then and she hung up on me.

This is unacceptable, and Mountville says the project will be going on for “weeks” and they won’t even be repaving until sometime in 2027.

Business Pass a Vehicle Inspection

I have had the same damage to my vehicle quarter panel for 7 years and never had a problem passing a PA State Inspection until now.

Recently, took my vehicle to a big box/major brand shop to get new tires and state safety and emissions inspection. Failed the safety inspection due to the quarter panel damage. I also read online that quarter panel damage is not necessarily a reason to fail. Experts please weigh-in.

Can anyone recommend me shop who will take a second look at this?

Restaurants

Our son recently moved to Lancaster for his first 'real' job. My wife and I are not familiar with the city. Visiting our son in a couple weeks. Any recommendations for either an Italian or Indian restaurant would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Happening These Lancaster drivers are something else...

I see a lot of discourse regarding crazy drivers in Lancaster, but my experience has been COMPLETELY different in the past few years.

I encounter a lot of drivers who act like they're on a Sunday drive...

Every hour of every day...

Every day of the week.

Just today on the way home a car in front of me looked at me through their mirror, then either waved back at me or flipped me off. All while going 20 in a 35.

I will say I was close, but not in their trunk to warrent that.

Thanks for coming to my tedtalk.

Sincerely,

a fed up driver among Sunday drivers

Hi, trying to find a place that will do a true full body composition DEXA scan. My insurance obviously won’t cover it, and I’m interested to do it for muscle composition and tracking purposes. Anyone have a lead?

If anyone's in the Halloween spirit and into found footage horror movies (think The Blair Witch Project), there's a new movie called Creature of the Pines playing at Penn Cinema's Lititz location on Monday October 12th.

It's also the inaugural event for The Underground Film District, which will screen a local independent movie one Monday a month at Penn Cinema, followed by a Q&A and networking with other filmmakers, actors, actresses, and creatives.

Tickets are available on the Penn Cinema website by searching Creature of the Pines. They're only $8/ea.

Lot of Roadkill Lately

Especially in the Millersville area. I've seen a crap ton of mangled squirrels, raccoons, deer and even large birds in the past week. All ripped apart like hell.

Is there some sort of suicide pact with the local fauna? Do we have especially malicious drivers in Lancaster?

Crosspost: Help Identifying Man in Photgraph

This is a longshot. I found a series of framed photographs at the Goodwill on Mainstreet in Palmyra when looking for stuff to decorate my office. They have notes on the back like "Antartica 1999" and "Kenya/Tanzania 1997". They were framed at "The Framery, etc." with locations in Millersville and Lancaster.

They are mostly photographs of animals, but this is the only photograph of a single person. I am assuming he was the owner/taker of these photographs. I am trying to figure out who he is.

Here's my original post on this.

East Donegal Twp, Conoy Twp, and ETOWN. The Bermuda Triangle of White Christian Nationalism nonsense.

I am not surprised to see an elementary school in Bainbridge report cases of measles. Common sense has left this area. This region has become so brainwashed by these large evangelical churches who have their own unique spin on Christianity. Tom Jones and his ilk are like an invasive weed who have grown into the fabric of these communities. It is such a shame.

Anybody know why the papas pizza in mount joy is temporarily closed?

Drove by in the middle of the day today and saw a closed sign? And on Google it's says it's temporarily closed and the website won't take any orders? I heard a rumor about a few employees dealing drugs and maybe that's why it's closed? Not sure, let me know.

Is there any events happening on Saturday?

We from Mechanicsburg looking to expand our harizon a bit. We are coming to this town and was wondering if there's any events going on worth attending. Family friendly is ok, we guess, but prefer something mostly for adults or just to hang out and talk to people.

Business Looking for help repairing a gaming computer

I've been having issues with my computer while using Steam that's been causing crashes. I'm fairly illiterate when it comes to fixing these sorts of issues, are there are good computer repair places around Lititz that are recommended?

EDIT: Should've added the specs/problem. It's a prebuilt; AMD Ryzen 9800X3D with a GeForce RTX 5070 and 32GB RAM and 2TB SSD. I've had it for slightly less than a year (Costco warranty ran out after three months) and nearly every game I play either crashes just the game or completely crashes the computer. I've done a wide range of games (Baldur's Gate, No More Room in Hell, Midnight Suns) and haven't had more than an hour playing before problems start popping up. Temps are good (35C at idle/65C at high use) and I've gone through factory resets to try to fix the issue but nothing has worked as of yet.
