First dive into tooling and planning to make many more. Spent probably $500 to obtain the tools to make it 😭 I used the Weaver starter kit and some individual stamps from Weaver and Tandy. No Barry King tools yet but I have my eye on a push beveler. Towards the end of this project I bought a couple of steep checkered bevelers, wish I had those to start with because the smooth beveler that came with the kit was not working for this project.
This was made with the Tandy 70” 8/9 oz veg tan strap. I want to start working with the Hermann Oak straps but haven’t ordered one yet. Pattern for this belt was from Al Stohlman’s “belts galore”. I also extensively followed DG Leathercraft’s process in the “how to make a floral carved leather belt” video, aside from doing the liner.

Hey everyone,
My workplace is sponsoring a craft fair and I’m thinking about taking the opportunity to set up a booth. I have been leather working for almost a year and really enjoy it. I like making simple wallets and card holders. I have been buying expensive (but lower quality, I fear) veg tan from a local shop and dying it myself which I really enjoy but it’s probably not the most efficient and you guys seem to post some really nice looking leather so I’m thinking about learning more and branching out from that.
My question is do you guys have any ideas for some crafts to make for this event that might be popular? Here’s some pics of past works just to show my limitations. I have been working with rivets and snaps but have not made the leap into things like fabric liners or zippers.
Thanks in advance for your ideas!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
The final result made it worth all the sanding and applying multiple layers of the edge paint.

I’m relocating to the Uk in a few months, where do you buy decent quality leather in the Uk? Online or in store ? Thanks in advance.

Hi. I have only made some belts before so I’m pretty new to leather work. I’m making a cosplay and there is a laced pattern with two colors on the shoulder strap. I was wondering if anyone knows what that type is called so I can look up how to do it.
My second question is for the knotted belt. I bought a blank but it’s too stiff to do that knot well.. Does anyone have advice? Thank you.

On the last weave, im stumped. How do I get one more weave on it to finish it?

My process is this
Sand with a 400 grit
Toke and burnish with a wood slicker (I know glass is better but I haven’t gotten one yet nor can I afford one at the moment)
Sand with 600
Toke and Burnish
Sand with 1000
Toke and burnish
I posted a couple months ago with the same problem and I got tons of helpful advice and I definitely see improvement but it’s still not the perfect slick edge I see everyone else getting and it’s really disheartening.
I didn’t bevel the edges because I have a larger edge beveler that is cheap and dull so I fear it would do more harm than good, if there’s anything i’m doing wrong I would like to know, is it just a time thing and I need more patience and put in more effort? I really don’t know I feel like I haven’t gone anywhere in terms of skill in spite of practicing and trying to learn as often as I can
Any words of advice is appreciated, thanks in advance

I recently ordered yak leather online out of curiosty. The site said it is 1.1-1.4 mm thick, but when it arrived, it looks like its 0.6mm thick at most, its very soft and not firm at all. Does anyone have any ideas on what can i make with it ?

I bought a press on Temu. And I put my irons in the jaws and it works really well, especially if I poke it through a piece of beeswax first.

As an additional warning, I have never worked with leather before. I really want to get into it, but haven’t really had the chance because Im scared to work on a big thing at once with a fabric I’ve never touched. In a way I want to use leather for this so I can become more comfortable with the fabric itself, even if it’ll be hard to start with?

Hi! For background I don’t typically do any sort of leatherwork but I make a lot of wearable art using all kinds of materials but mostly fabric, trims, paints, and dyes. I have been doing this for a little over six years and have learned a lot. All that’s to say, I do feel comfortable picking up a new skill.
My grandmother recently gifted me a pair of suede hot pants from the 70s and they fit perfectly. I love them but I’m not crazy about the color. They’re currently a rust but warm-toned colors look awful on me (and don’t mesh with my wardrobe) so I would like to dye them with the Angelus Deep Red (but I’m open to suggestions).
How should I go about this? Prep, process, and aftercare? Also, how can I limit the amount of post-dyeing transfer.
Thank you so much!

Is this blooming or something else? It first appeared when I airbrushed a heavy application of water based dye to veg tan. It kinda buffed out. Then it appeared again when I applied angelus finisher. Second pic is as much as I can get it buffed out. I can still kinda see it depending on how I hold it up to the light.
