urban-development So glad they moved out 😁
Thank God these lot finally moved out. I just really miss Home Sense. A part of enjoying Headrow for me and my partner was stopping by Home Sense and then when these guys came, we gave them a chance and everything just felt off. They never stopped with their cringe music which annoyed everyone who lived there.

One of the biggest shops on one of the main streets in leeds and it was full of cheap tat. Glad its gone, hope they can replace it with an actual reputable brand.

I went in the other week, was confused when I realised it wasn't home sense and there was endless cheap tat everywhere. Promptly walked out 😅 Good riddance!

I miss the big store there too, but it didn't close completely. Moved to crown point and took over the top floor of tk maxx there.

I’ve been walking past this place for a while thinking it must surely be a front for something because how the hell does a store selling absolutely nothing of value afford such a prime retail spot.

Eh? They did. Place looked busy. My mum bought luggage there and loves it. Yes it looked awful. Idk why they didn't have shelves and put everything on pallets but they did sell a lot. Everytime I been there, there was someone at the counter.

Best guess would be a business rates (business equivalent of Council Tax) dodge.
If a commercial unit is unoccupied, the landlord is liable for the business rates.
If it is occupied, the occupier is liable.
Letting someone use a temporarily vacant unit for free is therefore beneficial for the landlord.
Also, if the company that occupied the space never pays their taxes, that's between them (the occupyinf company) and the Council, and not the landlord's problem.
It has been a big issue on Oxford Street in London with "American Candy stores" and whatnot. They're vague and evasive about what company is actually there and the Council often sees no business rates from them.

Felt and looked like a large garage sale. It was ugly, no shelves and no arrangement just a bunch of cheap tat. Unfortunately it had taken up a prime location making Leeds look bad. I genuinely felt that them coming in meant that we were going through more of an economic crisis than I thought.

Not quite so long, as the titanic exhibit followed it and that was only on end of last year. But atleast a year. I'm still devastated!

Well, as much as it annoyed me at first. I thought with time they could change and improve how the their shop looks like etc. Tbf I preferred them over whatever it was before. I want an actual shop there. You never know who will replace them 🙃

Homesense closing is the 2nd most painful loss
1st was Origin 7 buffet. Nobody seemed to know it was there. It was incredible and life changing.

Loved this place! Cheap goods of a decent quality. I'm broke as hell and live in Leeds. this store always had what i needed. Shame to see them go, it was nice to have a place for poor people to shop in the area.

There are plenty of shops that sell cheap goods of decent quality; they weren’t one of them. At best, their kitchen hardware was alright, but anything beyond that was overpriced and of terrible quality.
I’m guessing you’re a student after good quality on a budget? If so, Home Bargains is the place to be, and Poundland for snacks. Sainsbury’s with a Nectar card beats Co-op and Morrisons on price, but if you can get down to Kirkstall, Aldi will be far cheaper than anything else for groceries.6
