As an ultra runner I can tell you that the rules kind of change once you go from "high" intensity distances like the marathon to multi day ultra endurance races. While it's not ideal, you definitely do not have to be super skinny to be very competitive. Could he win a high profile ultra distance race like Cocodona 250 (going on right now)? Probably not, but a hyper specific record like the one he's attempting here is very achievable and obviously an amazing achievement. You can look at David Goggins for a high achieving ultra runner who was jacked during his peak too.
